Playing the Hero
Welcome, aspiring hero! This section will guide you through the initial steps of your grand adventure in Hyrule, from waking up to your destiny to acquiring your first crucial items. Pay close attention, as these early moments lay the groundwork for your entire journey.
Waking Up and Meeting Sahasrahla
Your adventure begins in your cozy bed in Link's House. After a brief snooze, you'll be roused by your friend, Gulley, who reminds you of your apprenticeship at the Blacksmith's. Before heading out, take a moment to explore your home:
- Link's House:
- Smash the pots near your bed for some Rupees.
- Check the chest in the corner for a few more Rupees.
Once you're ready, exit Link's House and head north towards the Blacksmith's. On your way, you'll encounter a familiar face: Sahasrahla, the elder of Kakariko Village. He'll impart some cryptic wisdom and point you towards the Sanctuary, where the Captain of the Royal Guard, Seres, is practicing. This is your first major objective.
The Blacksmith's and the First Sword
Continue your journey to the Blacksmith's. You'll find your master, the Blacksmith, hard at work. He'll task you with delivering a sword to the Captain at the Sanctuary. This is your first official quest!
- Acquiring the Sword:
- Speak to the Blacksmith. He will hand you the Sword. This is your primary weapon for the early game, so get used to its feel.
- Equip the Sword immediately from your inventory.
Now, with the Sword in hand, it's time to make your way to the Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is located north of Hyrule Castle, past the Blacksmith's and through a small forest path.
Journey to the Sanctuary
The path to the Sanctuary is relatively straightforward, but you'll encounter your first enemies: Octoroks. These squid-like creatures spit rocks at you. Here's how to deal with them:
- Octorok Strategy:
- Approach them cautiously.
- Use your newly acquired Sword to strike them down. Two hits should suffice.
- Alternatively, you can deflect their projectiles back at them with a well-timed sword swing, though this is a bit more advanced.
Along the way, keep an eye out for tall grass. Cutting it down with your sword can often reveal valuable Rupees or even an occasional Heart to replenish your health. smash any pots or lift any rocks you encounter for hidden treasures.
As you approach the Sanctuary, you'll notice its distinctive architecture. Enter the building to continue your heroic journey.
Inside the Sanctuary: A Glimpse of Darkness
Upon entering the Sanctuary, you'll witness a pivotal cutscene. Yuga, the mysterious sorcerer, will appear and transform Seres into a painting. This shocking event sets the stage for the overarching conflict of the game.
- After the Cutscene:
- You'll be knocked unconscious.
- When you awaken, you'll find yourself back in Link's House, having been rescued by Sahasrahla.
Sahasrahla will explain the gravity of the situation and entrust you with a crucial task: finding the descendants of the Seven Sages. This marks the true beginning of your quest to save Hyrule.
The First Dungeon: Eastern Palace Preparations
Before you can embark on your quest to find the Sages, Sahasrahla will direct you to the Eastern Palace, where he believes one of the descendants might be. However, you'll need a few more tools to tackle its challenges.
- Essential Item Acquisition:
- Lamp: Sahasrahla will give you the Lamp. This item is vital for illuminating dark areas and solving certain puzzles. assign it to one of your item buttons.
- Small Shield: Head to the Item Shop in Kakariko Village. You can purchase the Small Shield for 50 Rupees. This will allow you to block some enemy projectiles and attacks, significantly increasing your survivability. If you're short on Rupees, spend some time cutting grass and defeating enemies in the surrounding areas.
Once you have both the Lamp and the Small Shield, you are officially ready to face your first dungeon. The Eastern Palace is located in the eastern region of Hyrule, accessible by heading east from Kakariko Village.
