Glitches & Exploits

While The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is a polished experience, a few interesting glitches and exploits have been discovered that can either offer a shortcut, provide an advantage, or simply be amusing to try out. Please note that using glitches can sometimes lead to unexpected game behavior or even soft-locks, so always save your game beforehand!

Rupee Farming Exploit (Early Game)

This exploit allows you to accumulate a significant amount of Rupees early in the game, which is incredibly useful for renting or purchasing items from Ravio's Shop.

  • Required Items: None, but having a few Rupees to start helps.
  • Location: Kakariko Village.
  • Strategy:
    1. Head to Kakariko Village.
    2. Locate the house with the Cuccos inside, near the center of the village.
    3. Enter the house and pick up a Cucco.
    4. Walk around the house, bumping into the other Cuccos. This will cause them to drop Rupees.
    5. Collect the dropped Rupees.
    6. Exit the house and immediately re-enter. This resets the Cuccos and allows them to drop Rupees again.
    7. Repeat steps 3-6 as many times as desired.
  • Notes: This method is most effective early on when you need to rent essential items like the Bow or Bombs. The Cuccos drop various denominations of Rupees, making it a reliable, albeit repetitive, way to earn cash.

Infinite Stamina Glitch (Mermaid Suit Bypass)

This glitch allows Link to swim indefinitely without the Mermaid Suit, effectively bypassing the need to rent or purchase it for certain areas. This is particularly useful for reaching Zora's Domain early or exploring underwater sections without the usual time limit.

  • Required Items: Hookshot.
  • Location: Any body of water with a grapple point nearby. A good early example is the river leading to Zora's Domain from the Eastern Palace area.
  • Strategy:
    1. Stand at the edge of a body of water.
    2. Face a wall or object that the Hookshot can latch onto, ensuring it's within range.
    3. Jump into the water. As soon as Link begins to swim, quickly use the Hookshot on the target.
    4. If timed correctly, Link will briefly pull himself towards the target, and his stamina gauge will disappear.
    5. Once the stamina gauge is gone, Link can swim indefinitely without losing energy.
    6. To revert to normal swimming (and regain the stamina gauge), simply exit the water or use the Hookshot again on a different target.
  • Notes: This glitch can be a bit tricky to time initially, but with practice, it becomes consistent. It's an excellent way to explore areas that would normally require the Mermaid Suit without spending the Rupees. Be aware that if you exit the water, you'll need to re-perform the glitch to swim infinitely again.

Wall Merge Clipping (Advanced)

This advanced exploit allows Link to clip through certain walls or environmental objects by merging into them at specific angles. This is often used by speedrunners to bypass sections or reach areas prematurely.

  • Required Items: Dash Attack (from Pegasus Boots or Sword Dash).
  • Location: Various locations throughout Hyrule and Lorule, typically at corners or specific wall textures. One known spot is near the entrance to the House of Gales in Lorule.
  • Strategy (General):
    1. Identify a wall or object that appears to have a slight seam or a corner that Link can "catch" on.
    2. Position Link very precisely against the wall.
    3. Perform a Dash Attack (either with the Pegasus Boots or a Sword Dash) directly into the wall at a specific angle.
    4. The timing and angle are crucial. If successful, Link will briefly merge into the wall and then pop out on the other side.
  • Notes: This is a highly technical glitch and requires significant practice to execute reliably. It's not recommended for casual play as it can easily lead to Link getting stuck in walls, requiring a soft reset. Experimentation is key, but be prepared for potential frustration. There are many community-made videos demonstrating specific wall clips if you're interested in learning more.
