Bestiary: Enemies & Creatures
Hyrule is a vast and dangerous land, teeming with a diverse array of creatures, both hostile and benign. Understanding your adversaries is key to survival and success in your journey to defeat Calamity Ganon. This section details common enemies, their weaknesses, and effective strategies for overcoming them.
Common Foes & Tactics
Bokoblins
These goblin-like creatures are among the most common enemies you'll encounter. They often travel in groups and can be found in various forms, from red to blue, black, and silver, with increasing difficulty and health.
- Locations: Found almost everywhere in Hyrule, particularly near roads, ruins, and monster camps.
- Weaknesses:
- Headshots: A well-aimed arrow to the head will stun them, allowing for follow-up attacks.
- Elemental Damage: Red Bokoblins are vulnerable to ice, Blue to fire, and so on. Use elemental arrows or weapons for increased damage.
- Strategies:
- Stealth: Approach camps at night or from high ground. Use the Sheikah Slate's Stasis Rune on sentries to disable them temporarily, then pick off individual Bokoblins with headshots from a distance using a Traveler's Bow or stronger.
- Environmental Attacks: If near explosive barrels, shoot them with a Fire Arrow or throw a Bomb Rune to clear out groups.
- Melee Engagement: For direct combat, use a Flurry Rush by dodging at the last moment to unleash a series of quick attacks. Weapons like the Soldier's Broadsword are effective early on.
- Disarming: Use the Magnesis Rune to steal their metallic weapons (e.g., Bokoblin Bat with metal spikes) before engaging.
- Drops: Bokoblin Horn, Bokoblin Fang, Bokoblin Guts. They also often drop their equipped weapons, such as Bokoblin Clubs or Spiked Boko Bows.
Moblins
Larger and more formidable than Bokoblins, Moblins wield heavy weapons and have a longer reach. They are often found guarding more significant monster encampments.
- Locations: Common in larger monster camps across Hyrule, especially in areas like Akkala Highlands and Lanayru Wetlands.
- Weaknesses:
- Headshots: Similar to Bokoblins, a headshot will stun them, but they recover faster.
- Back Attacks: They have a blind spot directly behind them.
- Strategies:
- Ranged Attacks: Keep your distance and use a powerful bow like a Knight's Bow with Bomb Arrows for significant damage.
- Pillars and Obstacles: Use environmental elements like pillars or trees to block their charges and create openings for attack.
- Flurry Rush: Their attacks are slow but powerful. Master the Flurry Rush by dodging their wide swings. A side hop is usually more effective than a backflip against their horizontal attacks.
- Stasis+: Upgrade your Stasis Rune to Stasis+ to freeze them for a few crucial seconds, allowing for multiple free hits with a strong two-handed weapon like a Claymore.
- Drops: Moblin Horn, Moblin Fang, Moblin Guts. They often drop heavy weapons such as Moblin Clubs or Dragonbone Moblin Clubs.
Chuchus
These gelatinous creatures come in various elemental forms and are relatively easy to defeat, but can be dangerous in groups or when their elemental properties are triggered.
- Locations: Found almost everywhere. Elemental Chuchus are found in specific regions (e.g., Ice Chuchus in Hebra Mountains, Fire Chuchus in Eldin Volcano).
- Weaknesses:
- Any Attack: They have low health.
- Opposite Element: Hit a Fire Chuchu with an Ice Arrow to instantly defeat it and collect its elemental jelly.
- Strategies:
- Melee: A single swing from almost any weapon, even a Tree Branch, will defeat a regular Chuchu.
- Ranged: Use a single arrow to pop them from a distance.
- Elemental Exploitation: For elemental Chuchus, use the opposing element to defeat them safely. Alternatively, hit them with a weapon to make them explode, dealing elemental damage to nearby enemies or Link.
- Farming: To farm elemental jellies, defeat a regular Chuchu near an elemental source (e.g., a campfire for Fire Jelly, a frozen area for Ice Jelly) or hit it with an elemental weapon/arrow.
- Drops: Chuchu Jelly, Fire Chuchu Jelly, Ice Chuchu Jelly, Electric Chuchu Jelly. These jellies are valuable for elixirs and upgrading armor.
Keese
Bat-like creatures that fly erratically, often attacking in swarms. Like Chuchus, they have elemental variants.
- Locations: Found in caves, at night, and in elemental regions (e.g., Fire Keese in Eldin, Electric Keese in Faron).
- Weaknesses:
- Any Attack: Very low health.
- Area of Effect: Their tendency to swarm makes them vulnerable to wide-swinging weapons or elemental explosions.
- Strategies:
- Bow and Arrow: The most effective way to deal with Keese is with a bow. Even a basic Wooden Bow will suffice. Aim for the center of a swarm to hit multiple targets.
- Spin Attack: If they get too close, a spin attack with a one-handed weapon (hold Y, then release) can clear out multiple Keese.
- Elemental Exploitation: For elemental Keese, use the opposing element to defeat them safely and collect their wings. For example, shoot Fire Keese with Ice Arrows.
- Drops: Keese Wing, Fire Keese Wing, Ice Keese Wing, Electric Keese Wing, Keese Eyeball. These are useful for elixirs and upgrading armor.
Octoroks
These octopus-like creatures hide in water, grass, or snow, spitting rocks at Link. They are more of an annoyance than a major threat but can disarm Link or knock him off cliffs.
- Locations: Found in bodies of water, grassy plains, snowy regions, and even volcanic areas.
- Weaknesses:
- Their Own Projectiles: Their primary weakness is their own rock projectiles.
- Any Direct Hit: Once exposed, they have low health.
- Strategies:
- Deflect Projectiles: The most iconic strategy is to use your Shield to deflect the rock back at them. Press A just before the rock hits to perform a Perfect Guard, instantly defeating them. This is especially useful for Rock Octoroks that spit explosive rocks.
- Ranged Attack: Shoot them with an arrow when they emerge from their hiding spot. A Traveler's Bow is sufficient.
- Melee (Water Octoroks): For Water Octoroks, wait for them to surface, then quickly swim to them and strike with a weapon.
- Stealth: For Forest Octoroks and Snow Octoroks hiding in grass or snow, approach stealthily and strike before they can react.
- Drops: Octorok Tentacle, Octorok Eyeball, Octo Balloon. Octo Balloons are particularly useful for lifting objects.
