Equipment: Masks

While not providing defensive stats in the traditional sense, Masks in Breath of the Wild offer unique utility that can significantly alter your gameplay experience. From blending in with enemies to locating hidden collectibles, these headpieces are invaluable for exploration and combat alike. This section details how to acquire each mask and its specific benefits.

Enemy Disguise Masks

These masks allow Link to blend in with specific enemy types, preventing them from attacking on sight. This can be incredibly useful for stealth, avoiding unnecessary combat, or getting close enough for a surprise attack. Be warned: if you attack an enemy while disguised, or if you remain in their presence for too long, they will eventually see through your disguise.

  • Bokoblin Mask
    • Location: Purchased from Kilton the Monster Parts Merchant.
    • Acquisition: Kilton appears at various locations during nighttime, always near a monster camp or stable. His first appearance is typically north of Skull Lake in Akkala. You'll need to complete the "A Shady Customer" side quest first, which involves speaking to him at Skull Lake. Once he's established his shop, you can buy the Bokoblin Mask for 199 Mon.
    • Strategy: Equip this mask to walk among Bokoblins undetected. Perfect for sneaking past camps, or setting up a powerful area-of-effect attack without initial resistance.
  • Moblin Mask
    • Location: Purchased from Kilton the Monster Parts Merchant.
    • Acquisition: Available from Kilton after you've defeated at least one Divine Beast. Costs 299 Mon.
    • Strategy: Similar to the Bokoblin Mask, this allows you to approach Moblins without drawing immediate aggression. Useful for bypassing their strong attacks or getting in close for a flurry rush.
  • Lizalfos Mask
    • Location: Purchased from Kilton the Monster Parts Merchant.
    • Acquisition: Available from Kilton after you've defeated at least two Divine Beasts. Costs 399 Mon.
    • Strategy: Lizalfos are quick and often appear in groups. This mask provides a crucial advantage by letting you observe their patterns or bypass them entirely in areas like the Zora's Domain approach.
  • Lynel Mask
    • Location: Purchased from Kilton the Monster Parts Merchant.
    • Acquisition: Available from Kilton after you've defeated at least three Divine Beasts. Costs 999 Mon.
    • Strategy: The Lynel Mask is perhaps the most useful of the disguise masks. Lynels are among the toughest enemies in the game, and this mask allows you to walk right up to them without triggering their aggressive behavior. This is invaluable for farming their powerful parts or simply getting past them in areas like the Tabantha Frontier or Hyrule Castle. Be extremely careful; any aggressive action on your part will instantly break the disguise.

Utility Masks

These masks offer unique benefits beyond enemy disguise, aiding in exploration and item collection.

  • Korok Mask
    • Location: Contained within a treasure chest in the Lost Woods, accessible only with the "Master Trials" DLC.
    • Acquisition:
      1. Fast travel to the Woodland Tower.
      2. Head directly north into the Lost Woods.
      3. Follow the path of torches until you reach the two torches that are close together.
      4. From these two torches, turn left (west) and look for a single, unlit torch.
      5. Light this torch, then continue west, lighting subsequent torches as you find them. This will guide you through the fog.
      6. Eventually, you will come across a large, hollow tree stump. The treasure chest containing the Korok Mask is inside this stump.
    • Strategy: When equipped, the Korok Mask will shake and make a distinct sound whenever a hidden Korok is nearby. This is an absolute game-changer for players aiming to find all 900 Korok Seeds, as it eliminates the need for tedious pixel-hunting.
  • Majora's Mask
    • Location: Contained within a treasure chest in the Kolomo Garrison Ruins, accessible only with the "Master Trials" DLC.
    • Acquisition:
      1. Fast travel to the Oman Au Shrine (Great Plateau).
      2. Head northeast towards the Kolomo Garrison Ruins.
      3. The ruins are heavily guarded by various enemies. Navigate through or defeat them.
      4. The treasure chest containing Majora's Mask is located on the ground floor, within the central, dilapidated building of the garrison. Look for the distinct EX chest.
    • Strategy: This powerful mask combines the effects of all four enemy disguise masks (Bokoblin, Moblin, Lizalfos, and Lynel Masks) into one. When worn, most common enemies (Bokoblins, Moblins, Lizalfos, and even Lynels) will not attack Link on sight. This makes traversing dangerous areas significantly easier, allowing you to focus on exploration or prepare for combat on your own terms.
