Shrine Locations & Solutions

Welcome, Champion! This comprehensive guide will lead you through every Shrine of Trials scattered across Hyrule, offering detailed solutions to their puzzles and revealing the treasures within. Shrines are vital for increasing Link's Heart Containers or Stamina Vessels, so mastering them is key to your journey.

Each Shrine entry below provides its location, how to access it (including any associated Shrine Quests), and a step-by-step walkthrough of its internal challenges. Remember to always look for hidden chests – many Shrines contain valuable weapons, rupees, or crafting materials that are easily missed!

Great Plateau Shrines

The Great Plateau serves as your training ground, introducing you to the core mechanics of Shrines and Runes. There are four Shrines here, each granting a crucial Sheikah Slate Rune.

Oman Au Shrine: Magnesis Trial

  • Location: Directly east of the Temple of Time, visible from the starting point.
  • Rune Acquired: Magnesis
  • Walkthrough:
    1. Upon entering, you'll be granted the Magnesis Rune. Use it to lift the large metal plate blocking your path.
    2. In the next room, there are two large metal blocks. Use Magnesis to lift the one on the right, revealing a path forward.
    3. Cross the gap. You'll see a small metal platform to your left. Use Magnesis to pull it towards you, creating a bridge to the chest.
    4. Chest Reward: Traveler's Bow.
    5. Continue forward. You'll encounter a Guardian Scout I. Defeat it (a few hits with your starting weapons will suffice).
    6. Use Magnesis to move the large metal plate that forms a bridge over the final gap. Walk across to reach the altar.

Ja Baij Shrine: Bomb Trial

  • Location: Northeast of the Temple of Time, nestled in a snowy area. You'll need to acquire warm clothing or consume cold-resistant food to survive the cold.
  • Rune Acquired: Remote Bomb (Square and Spherical)
  • Walkthrough:
    1. After receiving the Remote Bomb Rune, activate the switch on the floor to open the door.
    2. In the next room, you'll see a destructible wall. Place a Square Bomb near it and detonate to clear the path.
    3. Cross the water. On the other side, you'll see a platform with a chest. Use a Spherical Bomb and roll it down the ramp to destroy the blocks supporting the platform.
    4. Chest Reward: Amber.
    5. Continue to the next area. There's a moving platform. Place a bomb on it, then wait for it to reach the destructible wall on the far side before detonating.
    6. Proceed to the altar.

Wau Ka'o Shrine: Stasis Trial

  • Location: West of the Temple of Time, near the edge of the plateau.
  • Rune Acquired: Stasis
  • Walkthrough:
    1. Upon entering, you'll receive the Stasis Rune. Use it on the large gear to temporarily freeze it, allowing you to cross.
    2. In the next room, a large orb is rolling down a ramp. Use Stasis on it as it approaches, then hit it with a weapon (e.g., your Traveler's Sword) multiple times to send it flying back up the ramp and into the switch, opening the door.
    3. Before proceeding, look to your left. There's a platform with a chest. Use Stasis on the moving platform, then quickly run across.
    4. Chest Reward: Traveler's Shield.
    5. Continue to the final area. There's a large block that needs to be moved. Use Stasis on it, then hit it repeatedly with your weapon to build up kinetic energy and send it flying across the gap, creating a bridge.
    6. Cross the bridge to the altar.

Keh Namut Shrine: Cryonis Trial

  • Location: Southwest of the Temple of Time, high up on Mount Hylia in a very cold region. You'll need significant cold resistance to reach it.
  • Rune Acquired: Cryonis
  • Walkthrough:
    1. After acquiring the Cryonis Rune, use it to create an ice pillar under the gate, lifting it so you can pass underneath.
    2. In the next room, there's a body of water with a platform on the other side. Use Cryonis to create a series of ice pillars, forming a path to the platform.
    3. Before crossing, look to your right. There's a destructible wall above the water. Create an ice pillar directly beneath it, then climb up and throw a Remote Bomb to destroy the wall, revealing a chest.
    4. Chest Reward: Traveler's Spear.
    5. Continue across your ice bridge. You'll see a large seesaw-like platform. Create an ice pillar under the lower end of the seesaw to raise it, allowing you to walk up to the altar.

Dueling Peaks Region Shrines

The Dueling Peaks region is one of the first areas you'll explore after the Great Plateau. It features several Shrines, some of which are tied to intriguing Shrine Quests.

Ta'loh Naeg Shrine: Ta'loh Naeg's Teaching

  • Location: On top of the northern Dueling Peak. The easiest way to reach it is to climb the northern peak from the Dueling Peaks Stable side.
  • Walkthrough:
    1. This Shrine is a combat tutorial. You'll be given a series of instructions on how to perform Flurry Rushes and Perfect Guards.
    2. Follow the on-screen prompts to defeat the Guardian Scout I.
    3. Chest Reward: Eightfold Blade (after completing the combat tutorial).
    4. Proceed to the altar.

Hila Rao Shrine: Drifting

  • Location: East of the Dueling Peaks Stable, across the Squabble River. It's hidden behind a waterfall. Look for a small cave entrance.
  • Walkthrough:
    1. Upon entering, you'll see a large pool of water and a raft. Use your Cryonis Rune to create an ice pillar behind the raft, pushing it forward.
    2. Ride the raft across. You'll encounter a destructible wall on your left. Place a Remote Bomb on the raft, then detonate it when you're close to the wall.
    3. Chest Reward: Opal.
    4. Continue on the raft. You'll see a large fan. Use your Stasis Rune on the fan to temporarily stop it, then quickly use Cryonis to create an ice pillar in front of the fan, blocking the wind and allowing the raft to drift to the altar.

Bosh Kala Shrine: The Wind Guides You

  • Location: South of the Dueling Peaks Stable, on a small hill overlooking the road.
  • Walkthrough:
    1. This Shrine utilizes wind currents. Use your Paraglider to glide across the first gap, utilizing the updraft.
    2. In the next area, you'll see a platform with a chest. There's a small fan on the ground. Place a Remote Bomb near the fan, then detonate it to create an updraft, allowing you to glide to the chest.
    3. Chest Reward: Soldier's Bow.
    4. Continue forward. You'll see a series of platforms and fans. Use your Paraglider and the updrafts to navigate across the gaps.
    5. On the final platform, there's a switch. Step on it to activate a strong updraft that will carry you to the altar.

Necluda Shrines

East Necluda and the Hateno region offer a mix of puzzle and combat Shrines, often integrated with the local environment.

Myahm Agana Shrine: Myahm Agana Apparatus

  • Location: Directly above Hateno Village, on a cliff overlooking the village.
  • Walkthrough:
    1. This Shrine requires the use of the Sheikah Slate's motion controls. You'll be presented with a large platform that can be tilted.
    2. Your goal is to roll a small orb into a hole on the far side. Carefully tilt the platform using your controller's motion controls.
    3. Once the orb is in the hole, the door to the altar will open.
    4. Hidden Chest: Before rolling the orb into the main hole, notice a small platform to the right with a chest. Roll the orb into the small hole on that platform first to access the chest.
    5. Chest Reward: Phrenic Bow.
    6. Then, reset the platform and roll the orb into the main hole.

Kam Urog Shrine: Trial of Power

  • Location: East of Hateno Village, near the coast. It's part of the "The Cursed Statue" Shrine Quest.
  • Shrine Quest: Speak to Calip at the Fort Hateno ruins. He'll tell you about statues that glow at night. Wait until nightfall (around 9 PM) and observe the statues near the ruins. One of them will glow purple. Shoot it with an arrow to reveal the Shrine.
  • Walkthrough:
    1. This Shrine involves using Stasis and precise timing. You'll see a series of gears and platforms.
    2. Use Stasis on the first large gear to stop the platform, allowing you to cross.
    3. In the next section, there are several moving platforms and a large block. Use Stasis on the block when it's in a position to create a path to the chest.
    4. Chest Reward: Soldier's Claymore.
    5. Continue forward. You'll see a mechanism with a large hammer. Use Stasis on the hammer when it's at its highest point, then quickly run underneath to reach the altar.

Akkala Highlands Shrines

The rugged Akkala region presents challenges both in reaching its Shrines and solving their intricate puzzles.

Tu Ka'loh Shrine: Tu Ka'loh's Blessing

  • Location: On Lomei Labyrinth Island, in the far northeast corner of the map. This is a massive, complex labyrinth. It's part of the "Trial of the Labyrinth" Shrine Quest.
