Getting Started: Your First Cycle

The initial moments in Termina are crucial. You begin as a Deku Scrub, stripped of your Hylian form and your trusty sword. Your immediate goal is to regain your true self and understand the predicament facing Termina. Follow these steps carefully:

1. The Lost Woods Encounter: After the opening cinematic, you'll find yourself in the mysterious Lost Woods. Follow the path until you encounter the Skull Kid and his fairy companions, Tatl and Tael. They will transform you into a Deku Scrub.
2. Reaching Clock Town: As a Deku Scrub, navigate through the Lost Woods. The path is fairly linear. You'll eventually emerge into the Southern Swamp, and from there, follow the signs leading to Clock Town.
3. Entering Clock Town: Upon reaching the entrance to Clock Town, you'll be greeted by a large wooden gate. Simply walk through it as a Deku Scrub.
4. The Great Fairy's Fountain: Your first priority in Clock Town is to locate the Great Fairy.
   • Head to North Clock Town. You'll notice a large, glowing fountain.
   • As a Deku Scrub, you can use the Deku Flower in front of the fountain to launch yourself onto the upper ledge.
   • Enter the Great Fairy's Fountain. Here, you'll find the Great Fairy of Magic, but she's been shattered into pieces by the Skull Kid.
   • Tatl will prompt you to find the missing fairy.
5. Finding the Stray Fairy:
   • Exit the Great Fairy's Fountain and head to East Clock Town.
   • Look for the Laundry Pool area.
   • Inside the Laundry Pool, you'll find a single, glowing Stray Fairy. Capture it.
6. Restoring the Great Fairy: Return to the Great Fairy's Fountain in North Clock Town with the Stray Fairy. She will be restored and, in gratitude, will bestow upon you the Magic Meter and the ability to cast the Magic Spell: Bubble as a Deku Scrub.
7. Confronting the Happy Mask Salesman: With your Magic Meter, proceed to the Clock Tower in South Clock Town.
   • Wait until midnight of the First Day (or anytime before the Final Day).
   • Enter the Clock Tower.
   • Ascend the stairs to the top, where you will find the Happy Mask Salesman.
   • He will offer to help you return to your Hylian form, but only if you retrieve Majora's Mask from the Skull Kid and learn the Song of Healing.
8. The Clock Tower Rooftop:
   • On the Final Day, at midnight, the Clock Tower will open.
   • Use the Deku Flower on the ground floor of the Clock Tower to launch yourself up to the rooftop.
   • Confront the Skull Kid.
   • Launch a Deku Bubble at the Skull Kid to knock Majora's Mask from his grasp.
   • After a brief cutscene, you will retrieve your Ocarina of Time and learn the Song of Healing from the Happy Mask Salesman.
9. Regaining Your Hylian Form: Play the Song of Healing on your Ocarina. This will transform you back into Link and give you the Deku Mask, allowing you to switch between your Hylian and Deku forms at will.
10. Learning the Song of Time: The Happy Mask Salesman will also remind you of the importance of the Song of Time. Play it on your Ocarina to return to the dawn of the First Day, preserving your key items and knowledge, but resetting the world. This is a fundamental mechanic of the game.
