Prologue & Opening Sequence

Welcome, hero, to Termina! Your adventure begins not in Hyrule, but in a parallel world teetering on the brink of destruction. This initial sequence sets the stage for Link's desperate quest to save Termina from the falling moon.

The Lost Woods & Skull Kid's Ambush

The game opens with a cinematic showing Link, still in his child form from Ocarina of Time, riding through the Lost Woods on his trusty horse, Epona. He's searching for a dear friend, but his journey takes an unexpected turn.

  1. Initial Cinematic: Enjoy the opening cutscene. You'll see Link riding Epona, then being ambushed by the mischievous Skull Kid, accompanied by two fairies, Tatl and Tael.
  2. Epona's Disappearance: The Skull Kid startles Epona, causing Link to fall. Epona gallops away, leaving Link stranded.
  3. Pursuit: Follow the Skull Kid into the hollow log. This is a linear path, so just keep moving forward.
  4. The Transformation: The Skull Kid will confront Link, steal the Ocarina of Time, and then, using the power of Majora's Mask, transform Link into a Deku Scrub.
  5. Falling into Termina: Link, now a Deku Scrub, falls down a long, dark tunnel, eventually landing in a strange new land.

Clock Town: Day 1 - The Deku Scrub's Dilemma

You awaken in the Laundry Pool of Clock Town, now fully a Deku Scrub. Your immediate goal is to find a way to revert to your Hylian form and retrieve your stolen Ocarina.

Laundry Pool & Meeting the Happy Mask Salesman

Upon landing, you'll be greeted by the Happy Mask Salesman, a peculiar figure who holds the key to your predicament.

  1. Explore the Laundry Pool: As a Deku Scrub, you can use Deku Flowers to launch yourself. Practice this mechanic here.
  2. Confront the Happy Mask Salesman: The Salesman will explain that he needs Majora's Mask back, and he knows how to help you. He'll give you a critical deadline: three days until the moon falls and destroys Termina.
  3. Learn the Song of Healing: The Salesman will teach you the Song of Healing. This song is vital as it allows you to transform back into Link from your Deku Scrub form.
  4. Transform Back: Play the Song of Healing. You will revert to your Hylian form, and the Deku Mask will be added to your inventory. This mask allows you to transform into a Deku Scrub at will.

Navigating Clock Town

Now as Link, you can explore Clock Town more freely. The time is 6:00 AM on the First Day.

  1. Exit the Laundry Pool: Head north out of the Laundry Pool into South Clock Town.
  2. Explore South Clock Town: Familiarize yourself with the central hub. You'll see the giant Clock Tower and the looming moon.
  3. Talk to Townsfolk: Engage with the residents of Clock Town. They will provide hints, introduce you to the dire situation, and some will offer side quests later on.
  4. Locate the Great Fairy: Head to North Clock Town. You'll notice a small cave entrance near the north exit. This leads to the Great Fairy's Fountain.
  5. Retrieve a Stray Fairy: Inside the Great Fairy's Fountain, you'll find a single Stray Fairy floating around. Catch it.
  6. Restore the Great Fairy: Approach the Great Fairy's pool with the Stray Fairy. She will be restored and reward you with the Great Fairy's Mask. This mask is useful for attracting other Stray Fairies in dungeons.
  7. Learn the Bomber's Code: In East Clock Town, you'll encounter the Bomber's Secret Society of Justice. To gain access to their hideout and progress, you need to learn their secret code.
    • Find the five Bomber children scattered around Clock Town.
    • Chase them down and pop their balloons (as Link, use your sword).
    • The last Bomber you catch will reveal the code. The code changes with each playthrough, so pay attention!
  8. Enter the Bomber's Hideout: Input the code into the door in East Clock Town. This leads to the Bomber's Hideout.
  9. Access the Observatory: Navigate through the Bomber's Hideout. You'll eventually reach a secret passage leading to the Astral Observatory.

Astral Observatory & Telescope

The Observatory is crucial for your next step in understanding the moon's threat and retrieving your Ocarina.

  1. Speak with the Professor: Talk to the astronomer in the Observatory. He will allow you to use the telescope.
  2. Use the Telescope: Look through the telescope. Focus on the moon. You'll see a tear fall from the moon's eye.
  3. Witness the Moon Tear: As the tear falls, follow its trajectory. It will land in South Clock Town.
  4. Collect the Moon Tear: Exit the Observatory and head back to South Clock Town. You'll find the Moon Tear on the ground near the Clock Tower. Pick it up.

You now possess the Moon Tear, a key item for your next objective: gaining access to the Clock Tower and confronting the Skull Kid.
