Welcome, aspiring hero, to Termina! Unlike other Zelda titles, Majora's Mask places a unique emphasis on your ever-changing arsenal, particularly through the transformative power of Masks. This section will detail all essential equipment, from your trusty sword and shield to the various items that will aid you in your quest to save Termina from its impending doom.

Swords

Your primary means of offense, swords in Termina can be upgraded to deal more damage and reach further. Each upgrade is permanent for the current three-day cycle.

• Kokiri Sword: Your starting weapon. It's a reliable blade, but you'll want to upgrade it as soon as possible.
• Razor Sword: A sharper, more powerful blade.
  • Location: After completing the Snowhead Temple, speak to the Smithy in Mountain Village. You'll need to provide him with 100 Rupees and wait until the next day (or play the Song of Double Time).
  • Strategy: This sword is excellent for the early to mid-game. However, it has a durability limit of 100 swings before reverting to the Kokiri Sword. Keep an eye on its condition!
• Gilded Sword: The ultimate sword in Termina, boasting superior power and reach, and it's unbreakable!
  • Location: After obtaining the Razor Sword, return to the Smithy in Mountain Village. You'll need to give him Gold Dust.
  • Strategy: To get Gold Dust, you must win the Goron Race after thawing the Goron Elder's son with Hot Spring Water (found in the Snowhead region). The race is only available on the First Day or Second Day. Once you have the Gold Dust, give it to the Smithy along with your Razor Sword. You'll need to wait until the next day to pick up your Gilded Sword. This upgrade is highly recommended before tackling Stone Tower Temple.

Shields

Shields are crucial for defense, allowing Link to block enemy attacks and projectiles. Like swords, they can be upgraded.

• Hero's Shield: Your standard wooden shield. It can block most basic attacks, but is vulnerable to fire.
  • Location: You start the game with this shield.
• Mirror Shield: A powerful, reflective shield capable of blocking and reflecting magical attacks and light.
  • Location: Found in the Stone Tower Temple. You'll obtain it after defeating the Garo Master mini-boss and solving a light puzzle in the dungeon.
  • Strategy: The Mirror Shield is essential for solving many puzzles within the Stone Tower Temple itself, as well as for defeating certain enemies and bosses later in the game. It can also reflect the light from the sun, which is used for various environmental interactions.

Bows & Arrows

Ranged combat is vital in Majora's Mask, especially for hitting distant switches or vulnerable enemy points.

• Hero's Bow: Your primary ranged weapon.
  • Location: Obtained in the Woodfall Temple after defeating the Gekko mini-boss.
  • Strategy: The Hero's Bow is indispensable for activating switches, defeating flying enemies, and solving many puzzles. You'll want to keep a good supply of arrows on hand.
• Fire Arrows: Arrows imbued with the power of fire.
  • Location: Acquired in the Snowhead Temple after defeating the Wizrobe mini-boss.
  • Strategy: Used to melt ice, light torches, and damage ice-based enemies. Crucial for progressing through Snowhead Temple and beyond.
• Ice Arrows: Arrows imbued with the power of ice.
  • Location: Found in the Great Bay Temple after defeating the Wart mini-boss.
  • Strategy: Used to freeze enemies, create ice platforms on water, and activate certain mechanisms. Essential for navigating the Great Bay Temple.
• Light Arrows: The most powerful arrows, capable of stunning enemies and revealing hidden objects.
  • Location: Obtained in the Stone Tower Temple after defeating the Garo Master mini-boss (the same room where you get the Mirror Shield).
  • Strategy: Light Arrows are vital for defeating the final boss and are also used to solve specific puzzles, particularly in the Stone Tower Temple itself. They consume a significant amount of magic, so manage your magic meter carefully.

Bombs & Bombchus

Explosives are your friends for breaking cracked walls, activating pressure plates, and damaging enemies.

• Bombs: Standard explosives.
  • Location: Can be purchased from the Bomb Shop in West Clock Town for 50 Rupees (for 10 Bombs). Also found in chests and dropped by enemies.
  • Strategy: Useful for opening new paths and damaging groups of enemies. Upgrade your Bomb Bag to carry more!
• Bombchus: Self-propelled bombs that travel along walls and ceilings.
  • Location: Can be purchased from the Bomb Shop in West Clock Town for 40 Rupees (for 10 Bombchus) after completing the Woodfall Temple.
  • Strategy: Essential for hitting switches or destroying obstacles that are out of reach for regular bombs.

Other Essential Gear

• Deku Nuts: Stun enemies temporarily.
  • Location: Dropped by Deku Babas, purchased from various shops.
• Magic Beans: Plant in soft soil to grow platforms.
  • Location: Purchased from the Deku Scrub in the Southern Swamp for 10 Rupees (first bean is free).
• Hookshot: Grapple onto targets or cross gaps.
  • Location: Found in the Pirate's Fortress. You'll need to navigate the fortress as Zora Link and defeat the Gerudo Pirates to access it.
  • Strategy: Invaluable for traversal and reaching hidden areas.
• Pictograph Box: Take photos of people and places.
  • Location: Given to you by the Tourist Guide in the Southern Swamp after rescuing Koume from the Woodfall Temple.
  • Strategy: Used for various side quests, most notably the "Swamp Tourist Center" quest.
• Powder Keg: A massive explosive capable of destroying large boulders.
  • Location: After becoming a Goron, speak to the Goron Elder's son in the Goron Shrine. You'll need to demonstrate your Goron Roll abilities to him. Once proven, you can purchase them from the Goron in the Bomb Shop for 50 Rupees.
  • Strategy: Absolutely necessary to clear the path to Snowhead Temple and for other large obstacles.
