The Great Fairies of Termina are benevolent beings who, upon the reunification of their scattered stray fairy brethren, will bestow powerful and often essential upgrades upon Link. Each of the five Great Fairies grants a unique ability or item that significantly aids your quest to save Termina. Collecting all 15 Stray Fairies within a dungeon and returning them to their respective Great Fairy Fountain is crucial for maximizing Link's potential.

Great Fairy of Magic (Clock Town)

• Location: North Clock Town, in the cave behind the Deku Scrub Playground.
• Requirement: Collect all 15 Stray Fairies from the Woodfall Temple.
• Reward: The Great Fairy's Spell. This powerful ability allows Link to use the "Magic Spin Attack" by holding down the B button and releasing it, consuming magic power for a wide-area attack. It's an invaluable tool for clearing out groups of enemies quickly and efficiently.
• Walkthrough:
  1. Enter Woodfall Temple and meticulously search every room for the 15 glowing Stray Fairies. Many are hidden in bubbles, behind destructible walls, or require specific masks (like the Deku Mask for flying) to reach.
  2. Once all 15 are in your possession, complete the dungeon and defeat Odolwa.
  3. Return to Clock Town and head to the Great Fairy Fountain in North Clock Town.
  4. Approach the fountain, and the Great Fairy will emerge, granting you the Magic Spin Attack.

Great Fairy of Wisdom (Snowhead)

• Location: Mountain Village, near the entrance to Snowhead Temple.
• Requirement: Collect all 15 Stray Fairies from the Snowhead Temple.
• Reward: Great Fairy's Sword. This is a formidable two-handed sword, significantly more powerful than the Kokiri Sword or even the Gilded Sword. It occupies a C-button slot and cannot be used with a shield, but its raw damage output makes it excellent for boss battles and tough enemies.
• Walkthrough:
  1. Navigate Snowhead Temple, being mindful of the numerous ice-based puzzles and enemies. Use the Goron Mask to roll and activate switches, and the Fire Arrows to melt ice and reveal hidden areas.
  2. Gather all 15 Stray Fairies. Some are found by melting ice blocks, others by defeating specific enemies or solving environmental puzzles.
  3. After defeating Goht, exit the temple and proceed to the Great Fairy Fountain located in the Mountain Village, just before the path leading up to Snowhead Temple.
  4. The Great Fairy will appear and bestow upon you the Great Fairy's Sword.

Great Fairy of Courage (Great Bay)

• Location: Zora Cape, inside the cave near the Marine Research Lab.
• Requirement: Collect all 15 Stray Fairies from the Great Bay Temple.
• Reward: Double Defense. This permanent upgrade doubles Link's defense, effectively halving the damage he takes from all sources. This is a crucial upgrade for the later stages of the game and especially for challenging boss encounters.
• Walkthrough:
  1. Explore the Great Bay Temple, using the Zora Mask's swimming abilities and the various water flow mechanisms. Pay close attention to the water currents and hidden passages.
  2. Locate all 15 Stray Fairies. Many are in underwater areas, behind grates, or require precise Zora swimming maneuvers.
  3. Once Gyorg is defeated, head to the Great Fairy Fountain on Zora Cape, which is inside a cave accessible from the ocean near the Marine Research Lab.
  4. The Great Fairy will grant Link the Double Defense upgrade, making him significantly more resilient.

Great Fairy of Power (Ikana Canyon)

• Location: Ikana Canyon, within the cave system near the Stone Tower.
• Requirement: Collect all 15 Stray Fairies from the Stone Tower Temple.
• Reward: Great Spin Attack. This enhances Link's standard spin attack, allowing it to be charged for a much longer duration and cover a wider area, making it even more effective against groups of enemies. It does not consume magic like the Magic Spin Attack.
• Walkthrough:
  1. The Stone Tower Temple is arguably the most complex dungeon. You'll need to flip the temple upside down using the Light Arrows to access different sections and find all 15 Stray Fairies. use all of Link's forms and abilities.
  2. Be thorough in both the right-side-up and upside-down versions of the temple, as fairies are hidden in both configurations.
  3. After defeating Twinmold, make your way to the Great Fairy Fountain in Ikana Canyon. It's located in a cave system accessible from the main canyon area, often requiring the use of the Hookshot.
  4. The Great Fairy will empower Link's spin attack, granting him the Great Spin Attack.

Great Fairy of Kindness (Southern Swamp)

• Location: Southern Swamp, near the entrance to Woodfall.
• Requirement: Collect all 15 Stray Fairies from the Secret Shrine (located in Ikana Canyon, accessible after completing Stone Tower Temple). This is the only Great Fairy whose fairies are not found within a main dungeon.
• Reward: Enlarged Magic Meter. This doubles the size of Link's magic meter, allowing him to use magic-consuming items and spells for twice as long before needing to replenish. This is incredibly useful for abilities like the Magic Spin Attack, Light Arrows, and the various transformation mask abilities.
• Walkthrough:
  1. After completing the Stone Tower Temple, head to Ikana Canyon. Look for a cave entrance high up on the cliffs, accessible via the Hookshot. This leads to the Secret Shrine, a mini-dungeon with a series of challenging combat rooms.
  2. Defeat all enemies in each room of the Secret Shrine to unlock the next. The 15 Stray Fairies are found within chests that appear after clearing these rooms.
  3. Once all 15 are collected, warp back to the Southern Swamp. The Great Fairy Fountain is located directly to the right of the entrance to Woodfall.
  4. The Great Fairy will appear and bless Link with an Enlarged Magic Meter, significantly boosting his magical capabilities.
