Postman's Rewards

The diligent Postman of Clock Town is a creature of habit, and by understanding his routine and assisting him, Link can earn some valuable rewards. This section details how to interact with the Postman to gain his trust and receive his unique items.

The Postman's Schedule and Early Encounters

The Postman can be found in various locations throughout Clock Town, always adhering to his strict schedule. Your first major interaction will be during the First Day:

  • First Day, Morning (6 AM - 12 PM): The Postman is typically found inside the Post Office in West Clock Town.
  • First Day, Afternoon (12 PM - 6 PM): He begins his deliveries, often seen walking through West and North Clock Town.
  • First Day, Evening (6 PM - 10 PM): He returns to the Post Office or can be found practicing his running in East Clock Town.

To begin the Postman's quest line, you must first acquire the Postman's Hat. This is obtained by completing the Anju and Kafei quest line, specifically after delivering the Letter to Mama to Madame Aroma on the Final Day.

Delivering the Express Mail to Mama

This is the primary way to earn the Postman's gratitude and his special item. This task is part of the larger Anju and Kafei quest, but focusing on the Postman's role is crucial here.

  1. Acquire the Express Mail to Mama: On the Final Day, after 6 PM, enter the Post Office in West Clock Town. You will find the Postman contemplating his duty. Speak to him.
  2. Receive the Mail: The Postman, torn between his duty and his fear of the impending moon, will ask Link to deliver the Express Mail to Mama to Madame Aroma. Agree to help him.
  3. Deliver to Madame Aroma: Head to the Latte Milk Bar in East Clock Town. Madame Aroma will be inside. Speak to her and deliver the Express Mail to Mama.
  4. Return to the Post Office: After delivering the mail, return to the Post Office. The Postman will be gone, having fled Clock Town.
  5. Claim Your Reward: Look on the floor inside the Post Office. You will find the Postman's Hat left behind by the Postman. This is your first reward for assisting him.

Additional Postman Interactions and Rewards

While the Postman's Hat is the main reward directly from the Postman, there's another significant interaction that ties into his character and provides a valuable item:

  • The Postman's Practice: On the First or Second Day, during the evening (around 6 PM to 10 PM), you can find the Postman practicing his running in East Clock Town, near the Honey & Darling's Shop.
  • The Stopwatch Challenge: Speak to him while he's practicing. He will challenge Link to a timing game. He wants you to tell him when exactly 10 seconds have passed.
  • Winning the Challenge: To win, you must use the Stone Mask (if you have it) to become invisible, or simply stand far enough away that he doesn't notice you. Wait for him to start running, then pull out your Ocarina and play the Song of Double Time to slow down time. Count to 10 seconds precisely, then speak to him. If you are exactly on time, he will be amazed.
  • Reward: For successfully timing his run, the Postman will reward you with a Piece of Heart. This is a one-time reward per cycle. If you fail, you can try again.

Remember that the Postman's schedule is rigid, and these events must be triggered within the specific timeframes of the three-day cycle. Using the Song of Double Time and Inverted Song of Time can help you manipulate the clock to meet these requirements efficiently.
