Woodfall Temple Walkthrough
Welcome to Woodfall Temple, the first major dungeon in Termina, located deep within the poisoned Woodfall region. As a Deku Scrub, you'll navigate treacherous, toxic waters and face the corrupted denizens of the swamp. This walkthrough will guide you through every puzzle, enemy encounter, item discovery, and the final confrontation with Odolwa.
Recommended Items & Preparation:
- Deku Mask: Essential for navigating the temple's Deku Flower puzzles and using Deku abilities.
- Magic Power: Ensure your magic meter is full, as Deku Bubble and Deku Flower flight consume magic.
- Deku Nuts: Useful for stunning enemies.
- Potions: A Red Potion can be a lifesaver if you take too much damage.
Dungeon Overview:
Woodfall Temple is characterized by its poisonous water, which will damage Link if he touches it. You'll primarily use your Deku Scrub form to traverse the dungeon, utilizing Deku Flowers for flight and Deku Bubbles for combat and activating switches. The main objective is to cleanse the temple by defeating its boss, Odolwa, and restoring the flow of pure water to Woodfall.
Walkthrough:
Entrance & Main Chamber
- Entering the Temple: From the entrance, proceed forward. You'll immediately notice the poisonous water.
- First Deku Flower: Use the Deku Flower directly in front of you to launch across the poisonous water to the platform on the other side.
- Navigating the Main Chamber: This large central room has multiple platforms and a spinning flower mechanism in the center. For now, ignore the central mechanism.
- Right Path & Dungeon Map: Take the path to your right (east). You'll encounter a Deku Baba. Defeat it. Use the Deku Flower to launch to the next platform.
- Small Key #1: On this platform, defeat the two Dragonflies. Open the chest to obtain Small Key #1.
- Locked Door: Return to the main chamber. Head to the north side of the room and use the Small Key to open the locked door.
North Wing & Compass
- Toxic Corridor: This corridor is filled with poisonous water and several Dragonflies. Use your Deku Bubbles to defeat the Dragonflies from a distance.
- Pressure Plate Puzzle: At the end of the corridor, you'll find a pressure plate. Stand on it as a Deku Scrub to open the gate ahead. Quickly roll through before it closes.
- Compass Room: In this room, defeat the two Skulltulas. Open the chest to acquire the Dungeon Compass. This will show you the location of chests and the boss key.
- Lighting Torches (Part 1): You'll see an unlit torch in this room. Use a Deku Stick (obtained from cutting bushes or defeating Deku Babas) and your Deku Spin Attack to light it. This will temporarily open a door.
- Navigating Back: Go through the newly opened door. You'll be on a higher ledge overlooking the toxic corridor. Use the Deku Flower to fly across to the platform with another unlit torch.
West Wing & Mini-Boss
- Lighting Torches (Part 2): Light this second torch. This will open the door to the west wing.
- West Wing Entrance: Enter the west wing. You'll encounter more Deku Babas.
- Mini-Boss Room - Gekko: Proceed through the west wing until you reach a larger room. You'll be ambushed by the mini-boss, Gekko, riding a Snapper.
- Strategy: As a Deku Scrub, plant yourself in a Deku Flower. When the Snapper charges, pop out and quickly plant yourself back in. The Snapper will flip over. Immediately launch out of the flower and drop a Deku Nut on Gekko. Repeat this process. After a few hits, Gekko will retreat into a bubble. Use your Deku Bubble attack to pop his bubble.
- Reward: Defeating Gekko earns you the Hero's Bow.
Acquiring the Bow & Further Progression
- Using the Bow: The Bow is crucial for the rest of the dungeon. Equip it immediately.
- Activating Eye Switches: In the mini-boss room, look up to find an eye switch. Shoot it with an arrow to open the next door.
- Platforming with Bow: You'll enter a room with moving platforms and more eye switches. Use your Bow to hit the eye switches, which will activate or move the platforms, allowing you to cross.
- Small Key #2: On one of the platforms in this area, you'll find a chest containing Small Key #2.
- Locked Door: Use this key on the locked door at the end of this platforming section.
Central Chamber Activation & Boss Key
- Final Torch Puzzle: You'll now be on a high ledge overlooking the main chamber. There are four unlit torches surrounding the central spinning flower mechanism.
- Method: Light a Deku Stick from a nearby lit torch. As a Deku Scrub, use your spin attack to light the unlit torches. You'll need to be quick, as Deku Sticks burn out. If you run out of time, relight your stick and try again.
- Important: You must light all four torches surrounding the central flower.
- Activating the Central Flower: Once all four torches are lit, the central Deku Flower will begin to spin rapidly. This is your key to reaching the boss.
- Boss Key Chamber: Before heading to the boss, look for a platform with a large chest on it, accessible by using the spinning Deku Flower. Launch from the central flower and land on this platform. Open the chest to claim the Boss Key.
Boss Chamber - Odolwa
- Reaching the Boss: Use the central spinning Deku Flower. Launch yourself high and aim for the large opening at the top of the main chamber. This leads directly to Odolwa's lair.
- Boss Battle - Odolwa:
- Phase 1 (Deku Scrub): Odolwa is a large, tribal warrior. As a Deku Scrub, plant yourself in one of the Deku Flowers around the arena. When Odolwa is close, pop out and launch a Deku Bubble at him. He will be stunned. While he's stunned, quickly fly over to him and drop a Deku Nut, then quickly plant yourself back in a Deku Flower. He will then fall to the ground, vulnerable. Switch to Link and attack him with your sword.
- Phase 2 (Link & Bow): After taking some damage, Odolwa will become more aggressive, sometimes summoning moths or fire walls. His main weakness is his eye. When he pauses or performs certain attacks, shoot him in the eye with an arrow. This will stun him, allowing you to attack with your sword.
- Recommended Strategy: Alternate between stunning him with Deku Bubbles/Nuts (as Deku Link) and shooting his eye with arrows (as Human Link) to create openings for sword attacks. Be mindful of his spinning attacks and fire walls.
- Reward: Upon defeating Odolwa, you will receive a Heart Container and witness the release of the first Giant. The pure water will flow, cleansing Woodfall.
Congratulations, hero! You have cleansed Woodfall Temple and brought peace back to the Deku Palace. Prepare for your next adventure in Snowhead Mountain!
