Kokiri Forest

  • Location: Inside the Lost Woods, via a grotto.
  • Strategy: From the Kokiri Forest entrance, take the first right, then the first left. You'll see a patch of soft soil. Plant a Magic Bean here. As Adult Link, return and ride the bean plant up to a platform with a Piece of Heart.

Hyrule Field

  • Location: In a grotto under a boulder.
  • Strategy: Near the entrance to Lon Lon Ranch, there's a large boulder. Use a Bomb to destroy it and reveal a grotto. Inside, there's a Piece of Heart.

Kakariko Village

  • Location: In a grotto near the entrance to Death Mountain Trail.
  • Strategy: Near the entrance to Death Mountain Trail, there's a small grotto hidden by a boulder. Use a Bomb to reveal it.
  • Location: From the Cucco Lady's side quest.
  • Strategy: As Young Link, in Kakariko Village, find the Cucco Lady near the entrance to Death Mountain Trail. She's lost her seven Cuccos. Your task is to find all seven and return them to her pen. Once all seven are returned, she will reward you with an empty bottle.   • Location: In the Hyrule Castle Town Market, playing the Bombchu Bowling Alley.

Zora's River

  • Location: On a ledge near the waterfall.
  • Strategy: As Young Link, navigate Zora's River. Near the large waterfall leading to Zora's Domain, there's a small ledge with a Piece of Heart. You'll need to jump across some platforms to reach it.
  • Location: Under a rock near the entrance to Zora's Domain.
  • Strategy: Near the entrance to Zora's Domain, there's a large rock. Use a Bomb to destroy it and reveal a Piece of Heart.

Gerudo Valley

  • Location: Behind the waterfall.
  • Strategy: As Young Link, cross the bridge in Gerudo Valley. Look behind the waterfall on the right side. You can jump into the water and swim behind it to find a hidden cave with a Piece of Heart.
  • Location: On a ledge above the waterfall.
  • Strategy: As Young Link, near the bridge, look for a small ledge above the waterfall. You can jump from the bridge onto this ledge to reach the Piece of Heart.

Lake Hylia

  • Location: Inside the Fishing Pond.

Pieces of Heart (Adult Link)

Kakariko Village

  • Location: Inside the windmill, after draining the well.
  • Strategy: As Adult Link, enter the windmill. Play the Song of Storms inside the windmill to drain the well in Kakariko Village. Now, go to the well and descend into it. Navigate the well's interior, and you'll find a Piece of Heart.
  • Location: Graveyard, by moving a grave.
  • Strategy: As Adult Link, go to the Kakariko Village Graveyard at night. Pull back the grave closest to the Royal Family's Tomb (the one with the flowers) to reveal a hole. Drop down to find a Piece of Heart.

Death Mountain Crater

  • Location: On a ledge near the entrance to Death Mountain Trail.
  • Strategy: As Adult Link, from the Death Mountain Trail entrance to Death Mountain Crater, look for a small ledge to the right. Use your Hookshot to reach it.

Zora's Domain (Frozen)

  • Location: On an ice platform in Zora's Domain.
  • Strategy: As Adult Link, after Zora's Domain is frozen, use a Dins Fire or a Blue Fire to melt the ice blocking the entrance to Zora's Fountain. Inside, there's a Piece of Heart on an ice platform. You'll need to use the Iron Boots and Zora Tunic to reach it underwater.

Zora's Fountain

  • Location: Under a large Zora stone.
  • Strategy: As Young Link, play the Song of Storms near the large Zora stone in Zora's Fountain to reveal a grotto with a Piece of Heart.

Gerudo Valley

  • Location: On the small pillar in the middle of the river.
  • Strategy: As Adult Link, use your Longshot (upgraded Hookshot) to grapple onto the small pillar in the middle of the river.

Lake Hylia

  • Location: On top of the Lakeside Laboratory.
  • Strategy: As Adult Link, use the Hookshot to grapple onto the roof of the Lakeside Laboratory. Climb to the very top to find a Piece of Heart.
  • Location: Inside the Fishing Pond (Adult Link).
  • Strategy: As Adult Link, go to the Fishing Pond. Catch the biggest fish (around 15-20 pounds) and show it to the owner. He will reward you with a Piece of Heart.
  • Location: From the Scarecrow's Song.
  • Strategy: As Young Link, play the Scarecrow's Song (a custom 8-note song) to Pierre the scarecrow at Lake Hylia. As Adult Link, return to Lake Hylia and play the Scarecrow's Song near the water to summon Pierre. Use your Hookshot on him to reach a distant platform with a Piece of Heart.

Bottles

Bottles are incredibly versatile items, allowing you to store several liquids and creatures, from potions and milk to fairies and even Big Poes. There are four bottles to find in total, each invaluable for your adventure.

Bottle #1: Lon Lon Ranch

  • Location: Given by Malon.
  • Strategy: As Young Link, visit Lon Lon Ranch and speak to Malon in the center of the ranch. She'll ask you to find her father, Talon, who is sleeping in the stable. Wake him up by repeatedly talking to him. Return to Malon, and she will reward you with a bottle filled with Lon Lon Milk.

Bottle #2: Kakariko Village (Cucco-counting)

  • Location: From the Cucco Lady.
  • Strategy: As Young Link, in Kakariko Village, find the Cucco Lady near the entrance to Death Mountain Trail. She's lost her seven Cuccos. Your task is to find all seven and return them to her pen.
    1. One is near the entrance to Kakariko Village, by the sign.
    2. Another is by the fence near the path to Death Mountain.
    3. One is on the ledge above the Kakariko Village entrance, accessible by climbing the watchtower.
    4. One is hiding behind the Kakariko Village Bazaar.
    5. One is on the roof of the house next to the Bazaar; use the watchtower to reach it.
    6. One is near the entrance to the Graveyard.
    7. The last one is inside the house with the open door, near the entrance to Death Mountain Trail. Throw it out and into the pen.
    Once all seven are returned, she will reward you with an empty bottle.

Bottle #3: Lake Hylia (Big Poe)

  • Location: From the Poe Collector in Hyrule Castle Town Market.
  • Strategy: As Adult Link, ride Epona across Hyrule Field. Big Poes appear in specific locations (often near signs or trees). Defeat a Big Poe (use arrows when it appears, then hit it with your sword when it's stunned) to collect its spirit in an empty bottle. Take the Big Poe to the Poe Collector in the guardhouse in the now-ruined Hyrule Castle Town Market. He will reward you with an empty bottle for your first Big Poe.

Bottle #4: Zora's Domain (Underwater)

  • Location: Underwater in Zora's Domain.
  • Strategy: As Young Link, after obtaining the Silver Scale from the Zora's Domain diving game, dive into the water near King Zora. There's a hidden passage underwater that leads to a small grotto. Inside, you'll find an empty bottle.

Hidden Grottos & Fairy Fountains

Throughout Hyrule, various hidden grottos and Great Fairy Fountains offer valuable rewards and upgrades. Keep an eye out for suspicious patches of grass, lone boulders, or unusual rock formations. The Stone of Agony (obtained from 20 Gold Skulltulas) will rumble when you are near a hidden grotto.

Great Fairy's Fountain (Hyrule Castle)

  • Location: Behind Hyrule Castle, near the drawbridge.
  • Strategy: As Young Link, after learning the Song of Storms, head to the area behind Hyrule Castle where you first met Zelda. There's a large boulder blocking a cave entrance. Use a Bomb to destroy it. Inside, play Zelda's Lullaby on the Triforce symbol to summon the Great Fairy, who will grant you the Spin Attack.

Great Fairy's Fountain (Death Mountain Trail)

  • Location: Near the summit of Death Mountain.
  • Strategy: As Young Link, near the entrance to Death Mountain Crater, there's a wall that can be bombed. Use a Bomb to reveal the entrance. Play Zelda's Lullaby to summon the Great Fairy, who will grant you Din's Fire.

Great Fairy's Fountain (Death Mountain Crater)

  • Location: Inside Death Mountain Crater.
  • Strategy: As Adult Link, near the warp point in Death Mountain Crater, there's a wall that can be bombed. Use a Bomb to reveal the entrance. Play Zelda's Lullaby to summon the Great Fairy, who will grant you Farore's Wind.

Great Fairy's Fountain (Zora's Fountain)

  • Location: Behind Lord Jabu-Jabu's cavern.

Great Fairy's Fountain (Desert Colossus)

Miscellaneous Secrets

Biggoron's Sword Quest

This epic trading sequence, only available as Adult Link, culminates in obtaining the powerful Biggoron's Sword, an unbreakable two-handed sword that deals double the damage of the Master Sword. This quest requires careful timing and knowledge of Hyrule's geography.

  1. Pocket Egg: Talk to the Cucco Lady in Kakariko Village. She'll give you a Pocket Egg. Wait for it to hatch into a Pocket Cucco (one in-game day or play the Sun's Song twice).
  2. Cojiro: Use the Pocket Cucco to wake up Talon in Kakariko Village (he's sleeping in the house near the entrance to Death Mountain Trail). Return the now-awake Cucco to the Cucco Lady, and she'll give you Cojiro, a blue Cucco.
  3. Odd Mushroom: Take Cojiro to the Lost Woods. From the Kokiri Forest entrance, go right, left, right, left, left. You'll find a sleeping man (Fado) on a tree stump. Wake him with Cojiro, and he'll give you an Odd Mushroom. You have 3 minutes to deliver this.
  4. Odd Potion: Rush to Kakariko Village and give the Odd Mushroom to the old hag in the potion shop (the one near the entrance to Death Mountain Trail). She'll give you an Odd Potion. You have 3 minutes to deliver this.
  5. Poacher's Saw: Return to the Lost Woods where Fado was. He's gone, but a Kokiri girl is there. She'll give you the Poacher's Saw.
  6. Broken Goron's Sword: Take the Poacher's Saw to the Gerudo Valley. Give it to the carpenter at the broken bridge. He'll give you the Broken Goron's Sword.
  7. Prescription: Take the Broken Goron's Sword to Biggoron on Death Mountain (he's at the summit, near the entrance to Death Mountain Crater). He'll lament his eye problem and give you a Prescription.
  8. Eyeball Frog: Take the Prescription to King Zora's Domain. Show it to King Zora, who will give you an Eyeball Frog. You have 3 minutes to deliver this.
  9. World's Finest Eye Drops: Rush to Lake Hylia and give the Eyeball Frog to the scientist in the Lakeside Laboratory. He'll make the World's Finest Eye Drops. You have 4 minutes to deliver this.
  10. Claim Check: Rush back to Biggoron on Death Mountain. Give him the Eye Drops. He'll give you a Claim Check.
  11. Biggoron's Sword: Wait three in-game days (or play the Sun's Song six times). Return to Biggoron, show him the Claim Check, and he will give you the magnificent Biggoron's Sword!

Mask Trading Sequence (Happy Mask Shop)

While this sequence does not reward a Heart Piece, it is essential for obtaining the Mask of Truth and earning Rupees.

  1. Obtain the Keaton Mask: As Young Link, rent the Keaton Mask from the Happy Mask Shop in Hyrule Castle Town Market.
  2. Sell the Keaton Mask: Show the Keaton Mask to the guard at the entrance to Death Mountain Trail. He will buy it for 15 Rupees.
  3. Obtain the Skull Mask: Return to the Happy Mask Shop and rent the Skull Mask.
  4. Sell the Skull Mask: Show the Skull Mask to the Skull Kid in the Lost Woods (from Kokiri Forest, go right, left, right, left, left). He will buy it for 10 Rupees.
  5. Obtain the Spooky Mask: Return to the Happy Mask Shop and rent the Spooky Mask.
  6. Sell the Spooky Mask: Show the Spooky Mask to the boy in the Kakariko Village Graveyard at night. He will buy it for 30 Rupees.
  7. Obtain the Bunny Hood: Return to the Happy Mask Shop and rent the Bunny Hood.
  8. Sell the Bunny Hood: Show the Bunny Hood to the Running Man in Hyrule Field (he appears after you've obtained the Master Sword). He will buy it for a hefty sum (500 Rupees in N64, 50 Rupees in 3DS).
  9. Obtain the Mask of Truth: After selling the Bunny Hood, return to the Happy Mask Shop. The shop owner will be impressed and allow you to borrow the Mask of Truth for free. This mask allows you to understand the thoughts of Gossip Stones.
