Heart Piece Locations by Region

Collecting all 36 Heart Pieces in Ocarina of Time is a rewarding endeavor, significantly boosting Link's maximum health. This section breaks down every Heart Piece location by region, providing detailed instructions to ensure you don't miss a single one. Remember, four Heart Pieces combine to form one full Heart Container!

Kokiri Forest

Lost Woods (Skull Kid's Game): As Young Link, enter the Lost Woods from Kokiri Forest. Take the first right, then the first left. You'll find a Skull Kid playing music. Stand on the stump in front of him and play your Ocarina. He'll challenge you to a Simon Says-style game. Successfully mimic his song three times to receive a Heart Piece.

Hyrule Field

Lon Lon Ranch (Epona's Song): As Young Link, visit Lon Lon Ranch. Speak to Malon during the day and learn Epona's Song. Return as Adult Link and use Epona's Song to call Epona. Ride her to the back of the ranch, near the fence, and jump over the fence in a specific spot (usually a slightly lower section) to find a Heart Piece on the other side. This requires some practice with Epona's jumping.
Grotto near Hyrule Castle Town: As Young Link, head to the grotto located near the entrance to Hyrule Castle Town. Inside, you'll find a Business Scrub. Defeat him, and he'll sell you a Heart Piece for 10 Rupees.

Kakariko Village

Kakariko Village Windmill: As Young Link, enter the Kakariko Village Windmill. Play the Song of Storms on the upper platform. This will drain the well, revealing a Heart Piece inside.
Graveyard (Dampé's Race): As Young Link, visit the Graveyard at night. Dampé the gravekeeper will appear. Talk to him and agree to race him. If you beat him to the end of the race (which leads into a hidden cave), he'll reward you with a Heart Piece. This can be tricky, so practice your running and rolling!
Graveyard (Hookshot Target): As Adult Link, return to the Graveyard. Look for a grave with a Hookshot target above it. Use your Hookshot to reach the ledge and claim the Heart Piece.
Kakariko Village Rooftop: As Adult Link, climb to the top of the Kakariko Village watchtower. From there, use your Hookshot to grapple onto the rooftop of the house with the man sitting on it. The Heart Piece is waiting for you there.

Death Mountain Trail & Goron City

Death Mountain Trail (Bombable Wall): As Young Link, ascend Death Mountain Trail. Near the entrance to Dodongo's Cavern, look for a bombable wall on the right side. Use a Bomb to blast it open, revealing a cave with a Heart Piece inside.
Goron City (Darunia's Room): As Young Link, enter Goron City. In Darunia's room (the large chamber at the bottom), light all the torches to make a large urn spin. Throw a Bomb into the urn when it's spinning at its fastest to make a Heart Piece pop out. This may take a few tries.
Death Mountain Crater (Cracked Wall): As Adult Link, enter Death Mountain Crater from Goron City. Use the Megaton Hammer to smash the cracked wall near the entrance to reveal a cave containing a Heart Piece.

Zora's River & Zora's Domain

Zora's River (Frog Chorus): As Young Link, find the five frogs on the logs in Zora's River. Play the Song of Storms, and they will grow larger. Play the Song of Storms again, and they will challenge you to a game. Play the notes that match the order they croak in. Successfully complete their musical challenge to earn a Heart Piece.
Zora's River (Bean Plant): As Young Link, purchase a Magic Bean from the Magic Bean Salesman near Zora's Domain. Plant it in the soft soil patch on a small island in Zora's River. Return as Adult Link and ride the fully grown bean plant to a high ledge where a Heart Piece awaits.
Zora's Domain (Frozen Waterfall): As Adult Link, after unfreezing Zora's Domain, swim behind the waterfall near the entrance to Zora's Fountain. There's a hidden grotto with a Heart Piece.

Lake Hylia

Lake Hylia (Fishing Pond): As Young Link or Adult Link, visit the Fishing Pond in Lake Hylia. Catch a fish that weighs at least 10 pounds (Young Link) or 15 pounds (Adult Link) to receive a Heart Piece as a prize from the Fishing Pond owner. This often requires patience and good timing.
Lake Hylia (Underwater): As Adult Link, after obtaining the Iron Boots and Zora Tunic, dive into the deepest part of Lake Hylia, near the Water Temple entrance. You'll find a Heart Piece resting on the lakebed.
Lake Hylia (Scarecrow's Song): As Adult Link, return to Lake Hylia. Play the Scarecrow's Song (the custom song you taught to Pierre as Young Link) near the warp pad to the Water Temple. Pierre will appear. Use your Hookshot to grapple onto him and reach a high platform with a Heart Piece.

Gerudo Valley & Gerudo Fortress

Gerudo Valley (Waterfall): As Young Link, stand on the wooden bridge leading into Gerudo Valley. Look down towards the waterfall. There's a small ledge behind the waterfall. Jump down carefully to land on it, then enter the cave to find a Heart Piece.
Gerudo Valley (Crate Jump): As Young Link, on the Gerudo Valley side of the broken bridge, look for a crate near the edge. Jump onto the crate, then jump across the gap to the other side of the broken bridge. A Heart Piece is waiting there.
Gerudo Fortress (Archery Game): As Adult Link, after rescuing all the carpenters in Gerudo Fortress, speak to the Gerudo guard at the top of the fortress. She'll challenge you to an archery game. Score at least 1,000 points to win a Heart Piece.

Desert Colossus & Spirit Temple

Desert Colossus (Oasis): As Adult Link, once you've reached the Desert Colossus, look for the small oasis area. Plant a Magic Bean in the soft soil patch near the dried-up pond. Play the Song of Storms to make it rain, filling the pond and growing the beanstalk. Ride the beanstalk to a high platform with a Heart Piece.

Lost Woods & Sacred Forest Meadow

Lost Woods (Bean Plant): As Young Link, purchase a Magic Bean from the Magic Bean Salesman at the entrance to the Lost Woods from Kokiri Forest. Plant it in the soft soil patch to the right of the entrance. Return as Adult Link and ride the beanstalk to a high platform containing a Heart Piece.
Sacred Forest Meadow (Grotto): As Young Link, in the Sacred Forest Meadow, near the entrance to the Forest Temple, there's a grotto hidden behind a wall of vines. Cut the vines with your sword to enter. Inside, defeat the two Deku Scrubs, and one will sell you a Heart Piece for 10 Rupees.

Hyrule Castle Town & Market

Hyrule Castle Town Market (Bombchu Bowling): As Young Link, enter the Bombchu Bowling Alley in the Hyrule Castle Town Market. Play the game and win the Heart Piece as a prize. This can be random, so you might need to play multiple times.
Hyrule Castle Town Market (Dog Lady): As Young Link, at night in the Hyrule Castle Town Market, find the white dog near the guard. Follow the dog to a house in the back of the market. The owner will give you a Heart Piece as a reward for bringing her dog home.

Gerudo Desert (Haunted Wasteland)

Haunted Wasteland (Crate): As Adult Link, navigate through the Haunted Wasteland. After crossing the quicksand river with the Longshot, you'll find a small area with a crate. Use the Hookshot or Longshot to get onto the crate, then jump to a nearby platform with a Heart Piece.

Ice Cavern

Ice Cavern (Frozen Chest): As Adult Link, inside the Ice Cavern, you'll find a chest frozen in a block of red ice. Use Blue Fire (found within the dungeon) to melt the ice and open the chest, revealing a Heart Piece.

Bottom of the Well

Bottom of the Well (Hidden Room): As Young Link, after obtaining the Lens of Truth, enter the Bottom of the Well. Use the Lens of Truth to reveal a hidden passage in one of the central rooms. Follow this passage to a small room containing a Heart Piece.

Temple of Time

Temple of Time (Light Arrows Chest): As Adult Link, after completing the Spirit Temple and obtaining the Light Arrows, return to the Temple of Time. A chest will appear in the main chamber containing a Heart Piece.

Dodongo's Cavern

Dodongo's Cavern (Bombable Wall): As Young Link, inside Dodongo's Cavern, in the large central room with the moving platforms, look for a bombable wall on the upper level. Use a Bomb to reveal a hidden alcove with a Heart Piece.

Jabu-Jabu's Belly

Jabu-Jabu's Belly (Floating Platform): As Young Link, inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly, in the room with the large central platform that moves up and down, look for a small, hidden platform that you can jump to. A Heart Piece is located there.

Forest Temple

Forest Temple (Hidden Room): As Adult Link, in the Forest Temple, after defeating the first Stalfos, you'll enter a room with a large block puzzle. Push the blocks to reveal a hidden passage leading to a room with a Heart Piece.

Fire Temple

Fire Temple (Bombable Floor): As Adult Link, in the Fire Temple, on the floor with the rolling boulders, there's a section of the floor that can be bombed. Use a Bomb to reveal a hole leading to a lower level with a Heart Piece.

Water Temple

Water Temple (Central Pillar): As Adult Link, in the Water Temple, after raising the water level to its highest point, swim to the top of the central pillar. A Heart Piece is located on a small platform there.

Shadow Temple

Shadow Temple (Hidden Path): As Adult Link, in the Shadow Temple, use the Lens of Truth to reveal a hidden path across a seemingly empty chasm. Follow this path to a room with a Heart Piece.

Spirit Temple

Spirit Temple (Sun Block Puzzle): As Young Link, in the Spirit Temple, in the room with the large sun block puzzle, push the blocks to allow sunlight to hit the sun switch, opening a door to a room with a Heart Piece.
Spirit Temple (Adult Link Switch): As Adult Link, in the Spirit Temple, in the room with the two Armos statues, defeat them and then step on the switch to reveal a Heart Piece.

Ganon's Castle

Ganon's Castle (Light Trial): As Adult Link, in Ganon's Castle, during the Light Trial, you'll encounter a room with a series of platforms. Use the Lens of Truth to reveal the correct path across the platforms to reach a Heart Piece.
