Equipment Upgrades
As you journey through Hyrule, Link will acquire various pieces of equipment that can be upgraded or enhanced to provide significant advantages in combat, exploration, and puzzle-solving. Mastering these upgrades is crucial for overcoming the challenges ahead. This section details how to acquire and utilize these essential enhancements.
Sword Upgrades
Your primary weapon, the Master Sword, is powerful, but there are opportunities to wield even mightier blades.
- Biggoron's Sword: This two-handed behemoth deals double the damage of the Master Sword, making it incredibly effective against bosses and tough enemies. However, you cannot use your shield while wielding it.
- Start the Trading Sequence: Begin by obtaining the Pocket Egg from the Cucco Lady in Kakariko Village. You must be adult Link.
- Hatch the Egg: Wait one full day-night cycle for the Pocket Egg to hatch into a Pocket Cucco.
- Wake Talon: Use the Pocket Cucco on Talon, who is sleeping in a house in Kakariko Village. He will give you the Cojiro.
- Deliver Cojiro: Take the Cojiro to the Lost Woods and find the man sitting on a tree stump near the entrance to the Sacred Forest Meadow. He will give you the Odd Mushroom. You have a limited time to deliver this.
- Deliver Odd Mushroom: Immediately take the Odd Mushroom to the Potion Shop in Kakariko Village's back alley. The old hag will brew the Odd Potion for you. Again, time is of the essence.
- Deliver Odd Potion: Return to the man in the Lost Woods. He will be gone, but a Kokiri girl will be there. She will give you the Poacher's Saw.
- Deliver Poacher's Saw: Take the Poacher's Saw to the Gerudo Valley and find the carpenter working on the bridge. He will give you the Broken Goron's Sword.
- Deliver Broken Goron's Sword: Head to Death Mountain Trail and find Biggoron near the summit. He will tell you he needs eye drops for his sore eyes.
- Obtain Prescription: Travel to Zora's Domain and speak with King Zora (after unfreezing him). He will give you the Prescription.
- Obtain Eyeball Frog: Take the Prescription to the Zora's River and find the Zora in the cave behind the waterfall. He will give you the Eyeball Frog. You have a very strict time limit for this delivery.
- Obtain Eye Drops: Immediately take the Eyeball Frog to the Lakeside Laboratory at Lake Hylia. The professor will use it to create the Eye Drops. Another tight time limit.
- Deliver Eye Drops: Rush back to Biggoron on Death Mountain Trail and give him the Eye Drops. He will give you the Claim Check.
- Wait for Biggoron's Sword: Wait three in-game days (or play the Sun's Song six times) and then present the Claim Check to Biggoron to receive your magnificent Biggoron's Sword!
Shield Upgrades
While the Hylian Shield is robust, there are ways to ensure Link is even better protected.
- Mirror Shield: This unique shield is not an upgrade in the traditional sense, but a direct replacement for the Hylian Shield, offering the ability to reflect light. It is essential for solving puzzles in the Spirit Temple.
- Acquisition: The Mirror Shield is found within the Spirit Temple. You will obtain it as part of the dungeon's progression after defeating the Iron Knuckle in the adult Link section.
- Functionality: Use it to reflect beams of light onto various targets, activating switches and revealing hidden passages.
Tunic Upgrades
Link's iconic green tunic can be swapped for specialized attire that grants resistance to environmental hazards.
- Goron Tunic: This red tunic grants Link immunity to the intense heat of Death Mountain Crater and the Fire Temple. Without it, Link will rapidly take damage in these areas.
- Location: As adult Link, head to Goron City.
- Acquisition: Find Darunia's son, Link, rolling around in the main chamber. Stop him with a bomb or by hitting him with your sword. He will then give you the Goron Tunic as a token of thanks.
- Zora Tunic: This blue tunic allows Link to breathe indefinitely underwater, making deep-sea exploration and certain dungeon sections much more manageable.
- Location: As adult Link, travel to Zora's Domain.
- Acquisition: After unfreezing King Zora with Blue Fire (found in the Ice Cavern), speak to him. He will reward you with the Zora Tunic.

Magic Meter Upgrade
Double your magic power for more spells and special item usage!

Inside, you will find a Great Fairy Fountain. Play Zelda's Lullaby on the Triforce symbol to summon the Great Fairy, who will bestow upon you the Double Magic Meter.
Defense Upgrade
Reduce damage taken from all sources, making combat significantly easier.
- Double Defense: Halves the damage Link takes from all attacks. This is an incredibly powerful upgrade, especially for challenging boss fights.
- Location: Hyrule Castle (as adult Link).
- Acquisition: After learning the Prelude of Light, warp to the Temple of Time. Exit the Temple and head towards Hyrule Castle. Instead of going to Ganon's Castle, look for a large boulder near the entrance to the castle grounds (where the drawbridge used to be). Blow it up with a bomb to reveal a hidden Great Fairy Fountain. Play Zelda's Lullaby on the Triforce symbol to summon the Great Fairy, who will grant you the Double Defense.
