Welcome, aspiring hero, to the definitive guide for all the essential items and equipment you'll need to conquer the challenges of Hyrule! This section meticulously details every crucial piece of gear, from your trusty swords and shields to the magical artifacts that will aid you on your quest. Knowing where to find these items and how to best utilize them is paramount to your success.
Swords
Your primary means of offense, swords are indispensable for fending off Ganon's minions. Each sword offers a different level of power and reach.
- Kokiri Sword: Your very first blade!
- Location: Found within the Kokiri Forest. After completing the Mido's House maze (the one with the boulders), you'll find a chest containing this sword.
- Strategy: Essential for the early game. Practice your basic attacks (A button) and spin attacks (rotate joystick and press A) with this sword to master combat fundamentals.
- Master Sword: The legendary blade of evil's bane!
- Location: Located in the Temple of Time. You will obtain this sword as part of the main story progression after collecting the three Spiritual Stones and playing the Song of Time.
- Strategy: This sword is significantly more powerful than the Kokiri Sword and is required to defeat many of the game's later bosses. It also allows you to travel between the Child and Adult timelines.
- Biggoron's Sword: The mightiest blade in Hyrule, requiring two hands to wield!
- Location: This sword is the culmination of a lengthy and intricate trading sequence.
- Start by obtaining the Pocket Egg from the Cucco Lady in Kakariko Village.
- Let the egg hatch into a Pocket Cucco and wake up Talon in Kakariko Village.
- Return the Pocket Cucco to the Cucco Lady to receive the Cojiro.
- Take Cojiro to the Lost Woods and give it to the sleeping man (Fado) to receive the Odd Mushroom. You have a time limit here, so warp to Kokiri Forest and head straight into the Lost Woods.
- Rush the Odd Mushroom to the old hag in the potion shop in Kakariko Village. She'll give you the Odd Potion. Again, a time limit is in effect.
- Return to the Lost Woods and give the Odd Potion to Fado, who is now a Kokiri. He'll give you the Poacher's Saw.
- Take the Poacher's Saw to the Gerudo Valley and give it to the carpenter working on the bridge. He'll give you the Broken Goron's Sword.
- Bring the Broken Goron's Sword to Biggoron at the top of Death Mountain. He'll ask for some eye drops.
- Go to Zora's Domain and talk to King Zora (as an adult) to get the Prescription.
- Take the Prescription to the Zora's River and show it to the Zora who is swimming. He'll give you the Eyeball Frog. Another time limit!
- Rush the Eyeball Frog to the Lakeside Laboratory near Lake Hylia. The Professor will make the World's Finest Eye Drops. Yet another time limit!
- Finally, take the World's Finest Eye Drops back to Biggoron on Death Mountain. He will give you the Claim Check.
- Wait three in-game days (or play the Sun's Song six times) and return to Biggoron to receive your magnificent Biggoron's Sword!
- Strategy: This sword deals double the damage of the Master Sword, making it incredibly useful for tough enemies and bosses. However, you cannot use a shield while wielding it, so be mindful of your defenses.
Shields
Shields are crucial for blocking enemy attacks and deflecting projectiles. Choose the right shield for the right situation!
- Deku Shield: Your first line of defense.
- Location: Can be purchased from the Kokiri Shop for 40 Rupees. You can also find it in various chests throughout the early game, or as a drop from certain enemies.
- Strategy: Effective against most basic attacks, but it is made of wood and will burn if hit by fire attacks. Always have a spare or upgrade as soon as possible.
- Hylian Shield: A more durable and versatile shield.
- Location: Can be purchased from the Bazaar in Hyrule Castle Town Market for 80 Rupees (as a child). You can also find one in the Kakariko Graveyard by moving a specific grave and falling into a grotto.
