Boss: Facade
As you enter the boss chamber of the Crown Dungeon, you'll be greeted by Facade, a giant, menacing face that covers the entire floor. This boss requires precise movement and timing, so make sure your inventory is well-prepared before engaging.
Recommended Inventory & Preparation
- Bombs: Absolutely essential for damaging Facade. Ensure you have a good stock (at least 15-20).
- Power Bracelet: You'll need this to lift and throw objects.
- Shield: While not strictly necessary for offense, it can deflect some projectiles if you're quick.
- Roc's Feather: Useful for dodging Facade's attacks and repositioning quickly.
- Potions/Fairies: Always a good idea to have a Potion or a captured Fairy in a Bottle if you're low on health.
Facade's Attack Patterns
Facade has a few distinct attack patterns you need to be aware of:
- Floor Spikes: Facade will cause sections of the floor to rise into spikes. These are indicated by a slight discoloration of the floor tiles before they pop up. Avoid standing on these areas.
- Falling Objects: Facade will occasionally drop various objects from the ceiling, such as pots or rocks. These can be lifted with the Power Bracelet.
- Eye Beams: Facade's eyes will sometimes glow, and it will fire beams across the room. These are relatively easy to dodge by moving to the side.
Strategy to Defeat Facade
The key to defeating Facade lies in using its own environment against it. Here's a step-by-step guide:
- Initial Phase: Facade will begin by causing floor spikes and dropping objects. Your primary goal is to avoid these attacks while waiting for an opportunity.
- The Bombing Opportunity: Facade's weak point is its face. However, you can't just throw bombs at it directly. Instead, you need to wait for Facade to drop a pot or rock from the ceiling.
- Lift and Throw: As soon as a pot or rock falls, quickly equip your Power Bracelet. Rush to the fallen object, lift it, and immediately throw it onto Facade's face. This will stun Facade temporarily.
- Exploiting the Stun: While Facade is stunned, quickly switch to your Bombs. Place a bomb directly on Facade's face. The bomb will explode, dealing damage.
- Repeat and Evade: After taking damage, Facade will retaliate with more aggressive attacks, often increasing the frequency of floor spikes and falling objects. Continue to evade its attacks, wait for it to drop another pot or rock, and repeat the process of lifting, throwing, and bombing.
- Cornering Facade: As Facade takes more damage, parts of its face will begin to crack and chip away. It will also start to move around the room more erratically, making it slightly harder to land your throws and bombs. Stay agile and use your Roc's Feather to jump over spikes or quickly reposition.
- Final Blow: Keep up the assault. After enough successful bomb hits (typically around 8-10 hits, depending on your sword upgrades and attack power), Facade will finally crumble and be defeated.
Upon defeating Facade, a Heart Container will appear in the center of the room. Collect it to increase your maximum health, then proceed through the newly opened doorway to claim the Fourth Essence of Time, the Crown Dungeon's Essence.
