Boss: Veran
Prepare for the final confrontation with Veran, the Sorceress of Shadows! This battle takes place in multiple phases, each requiring different strategies and item usage. Make sure your inventory is stocked with plenty of Potions and have your Sword, Shield, and Switch Hook readily accessible.
Phase 1: Veran and Queen Ambi
Veran will possess Queen Ambi, using her as a shield. Your goal here is to separate Veran from Ambi without harming the Queen.
- Strategy: Equip your Switch Hook. Veran will float around the room, occasionally pausing. When she pauses, use the Switch Hook to swap places with her. This will temporarily dislodge her from Queen Ambi.
- Attack: Once Veran is separated, she will be vulnerable for a short period. Immediately switch to your Sword and unleash a flurry of attacks. Repeat this process until Veran takes enough damage to transition to the next phase.
- Avoid: Queen Ambi will occasionally fire projectiles. Use your Shield to block these or simply move out of their path.
Phase 2: Veran and the Dark Fairy
After being separated from Queen Ambi, Veran will transform into a large, dark fairy-like creature. This form is more aggressive and has new attacks.
- Strategy: Veran will fly around the room, sometimes swooping down to attack directly, and other times summoning smaller dark fairies. Your primary goal remains to hit Veran herself.
- Attack: When Veran swoops down, try to anticipate her movement and strike with your Sword. The smaller dark fairies can be defeated with a single Sword swing, and they sometimes drop hearts, which can be useful.
- Defense: Keep moving to avoid Veran's direct attacks. If you're low on health, focus on defeating the smaller fairies for potential heart drops.
Phase 3: Veran's True Form
In her final, most powerful form, Veran will transform into a monstrous, spider-like creature. This phase is the most challenging.
- Strategy: Veran will move quickly, often teleporting around the room and firing energy blasts. She has a glowing core that is her weak point.
- Attack:
- Identify Weak Point: Wait for Veran to expose her glowing core. This usually happens after she attacks or teleports.
- Use the Switch Hook: When the core is visible, use your Switch Hook to pull yourself towards her. This will allow you to get close enough to strike.
- Sword Strikes: Once you've used the Switch Hook, immediately switch to your Sword and attack the glowing core as many times as possible before she retracts it or teleports away.
- Defense: Her energy blasts can be difficult to avoid. Try to stay mobile and anticipate her movements. If you have the Magic Ring equipped, its defensive properties can be helpful here. Don't be afraid to use a Potion if your health drops too low.
Continue to dodge her attacks and exploit her vulnerability with the Switch Hook and Sword. With persistence and careful timing, Veran will eventually fall, and you will have saved Labrynna!
