Post-Game Content
Congratulations, hero! You've vanquished Onox and saved Holodrum. But your adventure doesn't truly end there. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons offers a wealth of post-game content, especially when linked with Oracle of Ages. This section will guide you through the secrets and challenges that await after the credits roll.
Linked Game Secrets (Hero's Secret)
The most significant post-game experience comes from playing a "Linked Game." After completing Oracle of Seasons, you'll receive a Secret from the Maku Tree. This Secret is crucial for starting a Linked Game in Oracle of Ages.
- Record Your Secret: After defeating Onox and watching the ending, the Maku Tree will impart a long, multi-character Secret. write this down accurately! You can also find it again by speaking to the Maku Tree in your completed save file.
- Start a Linked Game in Oracle of Ages:
- Boot up your copy of The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages.
- At the title screen, select "Secret" when starting a new game.
- Input the Secret you received from the Maku Tree in Oracle of Seasons.
- This will begin a "Linked Game" in Oracle of Ages, carrying over certain elements and unlocking new content.
- Benefits of a Linked Game:
- Increased Difficulty: Enemies will be tougher, and some bosses may have altered patterns.
- New Items: You'll gain access to powerful new items like the Red Ring and Blue Ring earlier, and potentially the Master Sword.
- Additional Story Content: A Linked Game reveals the true antagonist behind both games, leading to a final battle against Twinrova and Ganon.
- Password System: Throughout your Linked Game, you'll encounter characters who give you "Secrets" to tell people in the other game. These allow you to transfer specific items, upgrades, and even heart containers between your linked save files. For example, a Secret from a character in Ages might allow you to claim a Heart Container from a specific NPC in your Seasons save.
Collecting Remaining Items and Upgrades
Even if you've completed the main story, it's likely you haven't found every last collectible. Now's the perfect time to tie up those loose ends.
Heart Pieces
There are a total of 16 Heart Pieces in Holodrum, forming 4 full Heart Containers. If you haven't reached the maximum 14 Heart Containers (10 from dungeons + 4 from pieces), consult a dedicated Heart Piece guide to track down any you missed. Many require specific season changes or item combinations.
Ring Collection
The Ring Box can hold up to 12 rings, but there are 64 unique rings to discover! Many are found by:
- Gasha Seeds: Plant Gasha Seeds in soft soil spots across Holodrum. The quality of the soil and your luck determine the rarity of the ring you receive. Keep planting and harvesting!
- Killing Enemies: Certain enemies have a rare chance to drop rings.
- Chests: A few rings are found in hidden chests.
- Trading Sequence: The lengthy trading sequence often rewards you with unique rings or items that lead to rings.
- Maple Encounters: Repeatedly colliding with Maple (the witch's apprentice) can sometimes yield rings or other rare items.
- Subrosian Dance Hall: Successfully completing the dance multiple times can earn you a ring.
Aim to collect as many as you can, especially the powerful ones like the Red Ring (sword power x2) and Blue Ring (defense x2).
Magic Ring Upgrades
The Ring Shop in Horon Village offers a service to appraise your rings. Once appraised, you can equip them. Some rings have multiple tiers of power, and you might find stronger versions as you continue playing or in a Linked Game.
The Hero's Cave (Linked Game Only)
If you're playing a Linked Game (either Seasons linked from Ages, or Ages linked from Seasons), you'll gain access to the Hero's Cave. This optional dungeon is located in the Western Coast area (accessible after clearing the main story in a Linked Game).
- Location: In a Linked Game, head to the Western Coast. You'll find a new cave entrance that wasn't there in a regular game.
- Challenge: The Hero's Cave is a gauntlet of challenging puzzles and enemies, designed to test your mastery of all your items and abilities. It often features rooms with multiple mini-bosses or intricate environmental puzzles.
- Reward: Successfully navigating and completing the Hero's Cave will reward you with a powerful item, often a significant upgrade or a unique ring that will greatly aid you in the final battles of the Linked Game.
The True Ending (Linked Game Only)
The ultimate post-game content is experiencing the true ending of the Oracle series. This is only possible by completing both Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages in a Linked Game sequence. After defeating the final boss in your second linked game, you will face Twinrova and then the resurrected Ganon in a challenging final confrontation. This battle is the true culmination of your adventures and provides the definitive ending to the story.
