Boss: Dongorongo

The first true boss of the game, Dongorongo, awaits you at the end of the Goron Temple. This fiery foe requires a bit of strategy and the clever use of your newly acquired Bomb Bag to defeat. Make sure your health is topped off and you have a good stock of bombs before entering the boss arena.

Phase 1: The Chase

Upon entering the boss room, you'll find yourself on a circular platform with a large, lava-filled pit in the center. Dongorongo, a massive, fire-breathing reptilian creature, will emerge from the lava. Your primary goal in this phase is to get behind him.

  • Lure and Evade: Dongorongo will immediately begin to chase you around the circular platform. He's fast, but predictable. His main attack is a fiery breath that he'll unleash directly in front of him.
  • Utilize the Pillars: Notice the small, raised pillars around the arena. These are crucial for your strategy. As Dongorongo chases you, lead him towards one of these pillars.
  • Stun with Bombs: When Dongorongo is close to a pillar, place a Bomb directly in his path. The timing is key here. You want the bomb to explode just as he's about to pass it. If successful, the explosion will stun him momentarily, causing him to crash into the pillar.
  • Expose the Weak Spot: When Dongorongo crashes into a pillar, he'll be disoriented, and his back will be briefly exposed. This is your window of opportunity!
  • Target the Tail: Quickly run behind him and place another Bomb directly on his tail. The bomb will explode, damaging him and causing him to retreat into the lava.
  • Repeat: You'll need to repeat this process at least three times to move to the next phase. Each time, Dongorongo will emerge from a different spot in the lava, but the strategy remains the same.

Phase 2: The Tongue Attack

After taking enough damage, Dongorongo will change his tactics. He'll no longer chase you directly. Instead, he'll remain in the lava, occasionally popping his head out and extending his long, prehensile tongue towards you.

  • Identify the Target: Dongorongo will typically pop up from one of the four cardinal directions around the central platform. He'll then aim his tongue at your current position.
  • Dodge the Tongue: The tongue attack is fast, but you can easily dodge it by running or rolling out of the way. If you get caught, he'll pull you towards him and deal damage.
  • Counter with Bombs: The trick to this phase is to hit his tongue with a Bomb. As he extends his tongue towards you, quickly draw a path with your stylus to throw a Bomb directly onto his tongue.
  • Pull Him In: If your bomb hits his tongue, he'll recoil in pain and his tongue will remain extended and vulnerable. Now, quickly use your stylus to draw a line from his tongue towards the central platform. This will cause Link to grab his tongue and pull him onto the platform.
  • Final Blows: Once Dongorongo is pulled onto the platform, he'll be stunned for a short period. This is your chance to unleash a flurry of attacks with your Sword. Tap rapidly on Dongorongo to deal maximum damage.
  • Repeat and Conquer: You'll need to repeat this "bomb the tongue, pull, and slash" strategy several times. Each time he's pulled onto the platform, he'll take significant damage from your sword. Keep an eye on your health and use any Potions or Fairies if needed.

Once you've dealt enough damage, Dongorongo will finally be defeated, leaving behind a well-deserved Heart Container and opening the path forward to the next dungeon!
