Mail & Trading Sequence

The Mail & Trading Sequence in Phantom Hourglass is a charming side quest that rewards Link with a valuable Heart Container. This sequence involves a series of item exchanges between various NPCs across the Great Sea. While not strictly mandatory for completing the main story, it's highly recommended for the health upgrade and the unique interactions it provides.

Initiating the Trade

The trading sequence begins after you have acquired the Grappling Hook from the Temple of Courage. Once you have this item, you can proceed to the following steps:

The Hero's New Clothes: Travel to Mercay Island. Head to the northern part of the island where you'll find a man named Linebeck (yes, the same Linebeck, but a different one!). He's looking for a new outfit. Present him with the Hero's New Clothes, which you'll receive from a mail delivery after completing the Temple of Courage. In exchange, Linebeck will give you a Wood Heart.

Continuing the Chain

With the Wood Heart in hand, the trading journey continues across the seas:

The Shipwright's Request: Sail to Cannon Island. On the eastern side of the island, you'll find a Shipwright who is in need of some sturdy wood for his repairs. Give him the Wood Heart. He will be delighted and, in return, will give you a Great Fairy's Tear.
The Fairy's Admirer: Your next destination is Isle of Gust. Locate the man who lives in the house on the western side of the island. He's a bit of a romantic and has a deep admiration for fairies. Offer him the Great Fairy's Tear. Overjoyed, he will present you with a Guard's Notebook.
The Guard's Secret: Head back to Mercay Island. This time, seek out the guard who patrols the path leading to the Temple of the Ocean King. He's a diligent but perhaps a bit lonely fellow. Hand over the Guard's Notebook. He'll be grateful for the return of his personal notes and will reward you with a Salvage Arm.

The Final Exchange and Reward

You're now on the home stretch! The final trade will bring you the coveted Heart Container:

The Salvage Master's Tool: With the Salvage Arm in your possession, sail to Dee Ess Island (the small island in the southeastern quadrant of the map). Here, you'll find a Salvage Master who is always on the lookout for new equipment. Give him the Salvage Arm. He'll be thrilled to add it to his collection and, as a token of his appreciation, will bestow upon you a precious Heart Container!

Mail Delivery System

Throughout your adventure, you'll receive mail from various characters. These messages often provide hints, lore, or even trigger certain events. The mail system is crucial for the trading sequence as some items, like the Hero's New Clothes, are delivered directly to you via mail.

Checking Your Mail: To check your mail, simply tap the mail icon on the bottom screen when you are on your ship or in certain towns.
Mail Delivery Locations: Mail is typically delivered to you when you enter a town or when you board your ship after a significant event. Keep an eye out for the mail icon!

Completing this trading sequence not only grants you a valuable Heart Container, but also provides a fun way to interact with the diverse inhabitants of the Great Sea. Happy trading!
