Enemy Strategies (Non-Boss)
Navigating the treacherous lands of New Hyrule requires more than just a sturdy train; it demands cunning and precise combat skills. This section details effective strategies for overcoming the common enemies you'll encounter both on foot and during your train journeys. Mastering these tactics will conserve your hearts and rupees, ensuring a smoother adventure.
On-Foot Encounters
When exploring dungeons, towns, and the overworld on foot, you'll face several foes. Always be prepared by having your equipped items readily accessible on the touch screen.
ChuChus
- Description: Gelatinous, blob-like creatures that come in various colors, each with unique properties.
- Strategy:
- Red ChuChu: The most basic variant. Simply slash them with your Sword. One hit is usually enough.
- Green ChuChu: These electrify themselves periodically. Wait for them to deflate and lose their charge before attacking with your Sword. Attacking while charged will shock Link.
- Yellow ChuChu: Similar to Green ChuChus, but they electrify more frequently. The same strategy applies: wait for them to deflate.
- Blue ChuChu: These are icy. Use your Whip to pull them towards you, then quickly switch to your Sword for a few slashes before they freeze again. Alternatively, the Boomerang can stun them briefly.
- Purple ChuChu: These are poisonous. Attack quickly with your Sword. If you get hit, use a Potion or collect hearts to recover.
Stalfos
- Description: Skeletal warriors that often wield swords or spears.
- Strategy:
- Standard Stalfos: These are straightforward. Engage them with your Sword, blocking their attacks with your shield if necessary. A few slashes will defeat them.
- Armored Stalfos: Their armor makes direct sword attacks ineffective initially. Use your Bomb Bag to throw a bomb near them. The explosion will shatter their armor, leaving them vulnerable to your Sword. Alternatively, the Bow can sometimes hit weak points if you aim carefully.
Keese
- Description: Bat-like creatures that fly erratically.
- Strategy:
- These are annoying but weak. A single swipe of your Sword or a well-aimed shot from your Bow will take them down. The Boomerang can also be effective for hitting multiple Keese at once.
Octoroks
- Description: Octopus-like creatures that spit rocks.
- Strategy:
- When they surface, either deflect their rock projectiles back at them using your Shield (by tapping the shield icon or using the stylus to draw a shield movement) or quickly hit them with your Sword before they can fire. The Boomerang can also stun them, allowing for an easy sword attack.
Gels
- Description: Small, bouncing blobs that often appear in groups.
- Strategy:
- Similar to ChuChus, but even weaker. A single Sword slash will dispatch them. Be wary of being surrounded.
Phantoms (Spirit Tower)
- Description: Large, armored knights that patrol the Spirit Tower. You cannot defeat them directly as Link.
- Strategy:
- Possession: The primary method for dealing with Phantoms is to possess them with Zelda's spirit. Once Zelda is a spirit, guide her to a Phantom's back and tap the "Possess" icon.
- Phantom Types:
- Standard Phantom: Once possessed, Zelda can use its heavy armor to protect Link and its sword to attack other enemies or clear obstacles.
- Whip Phantom: Found in later levels of the Spirit Tower. Once possessed, Zelda can use its whip to cross gaps or retrieve items.
- Bow Phantom: Also found in later levels. Possessed, Zelda can use its bow to hit distant switches or enemies.
- Distraction: Sometimes you need to distract a Phantom to get past it. Use the Boomerang to hit a wall or object to create a sound, drawing the Phantom's attention away from Link.
- Sneaking: When not possessing a Phantom, Link must sneak past them. Use the map to observe their patrol patterns and hide behind pillars or in safe zones.
Train Encounters
While riding the Spirit Train, you'll face various challenges, from enemy trains to flying creatures. Your train's cannon is your primary weapon.
Armored Trains
- Description: Enemy trains that patrol the tracks, often firing projectiles.
- Strategy:
- Targeting: Use the stylus to tap on the enemy train to aim your cannon.
- Weak Points: Many armored trains have specific weak points, often glowing or exposed areas. Focus your fire on these spots for increased damage.
- Dodging: Pay attention to their firing patterns and use the train's whistle to speed up or slow down, dodging incoming projectiles.
Flying Enemies (Crows, Buzz Blobs)
- Description: Various airborne creatures that attack your train.
- Strategy:
- These are generally weaker than armored trains but can be numerous. Use rapid-fire cannon shots to clear them out before they can damage your train. Prioritize those that are closest or directly in your path.
Dark Trains
- Description: Shadowy, powerful trains that appear after you collect a Force Gem. They relentlessly pursue you.
- Strategy:
- Escape: You cannot defeat Dark Trains with your cannon. Your only option is to outrun them. Use your train's speed boost (by blowing the whistle repeatedly) and navigate the tracks carefully to avoid their attacks.
- Spirit Tracks: use any available Spirit Tracks to gain temporary invincibility or to take shortcuts that the Dark Train cannot follow.
