Tower of Spirits (First Visit - Floors 1-3)
Your initial foray into the Tower of Spirits serves as a crucial tutorial, introducing you to the core mechanics of dungeon crawling, stealth, and controlling Princess Zelda as a Phantom. This section aligns with the progression detailed in the 'Tower of Spirits Strategy & Progression' guide, ensuring consistency.
Floor 1: Introduction to Phantoms
- Objective: Learn to navigate with Link and understand basic Phantom mechanics.
- Walkthrough:
- Upon entering, proceed north. You'll encounter your first Phantom. This Phantom is initially invincible and cannot be possessed.
- Continue past the Phantom to the northern wall. A Tear of Light will appear. Collect it.
- Upon collecting the Tear of Light, Princess Zelda's spirit will automatically possess the invincible Phantom, transforming it into a controllable Phantom Zelda.
- Now, use the stylus to draw a path for Phantom Zelda. Guide her to the floor switch on the right side of the room.
- Once Phantom Zelda stands on the switch, the door to the north will open. Proceed through.
- Enemies: Phantoms (initially invincible, then controllable as Phantom Zelda).
- Items: None directly, but you gain the ability to control Phantoms via Zelda's spirit.
- Common Pitfalls: Trying to attack the first Phantom or play the Spirit Flute before collecting the Tear of Light. Phantom possession is automatic upon Tear of Light collection in the Tower.
Floor 2: Phantom-Assisted Progression
- Objective: Utilize Phantom Zelda to overcome environmental obstacles.
- Walkthrough:
- Guide Phantom Zelda across the narrow bridge to the north.
- Position Phantom Zelda on the floor switch located on the other side of the bridge. This will lower a gate, allowing Link to cross.
- Once Link has crossed, recall Phantom Zelda or guide her across the bridge again.
- Proceed through the newly opened path to the stairs leading to Floor 3.
- Enemies: None.
- Puzzles: Using Phantom Zelda's weight to activate switches for Link.
Floor 3: Stealth and Distraction
- Objective: Learn to use Phantom Zelda to distract or bypass patrolling Phantoms.
- Walkthrough:
- Upon entering, you will observe one patrolling Phantom. This Phantom is hostile and will attack Link on sight.
- Your goal is to reach the stairs to the north-east.
- Strategy 1 (Distraction): Draw a path for Phantom Zelda to intercept the patrolling Phantom. When the hostile Phantom notices Phantom Zelda, it will focus its attention on her, allowing Link to sneak past. Ensure Phantom Zelda is positioned to keep the hostile Phantom occupied while Link moves.
- Strategy 2 (Direct Pathing): Carefully observe the patrolling Phantom's route. Draw a precise path for Link to move when the Phantom is looking away, using any available cover. This is riskier but possible.
- Once Link reaches the stairs, proceed to the next floor.
- Enemies: Phantoms (hostile).
- Strategy Tips: Always check the enemy's line of sight on the bottom screen map. Phantom Zelda is immune to the hostile Phantom's attacks, making her an excellent decoy.
Forest Temple
The first true dungeon in your quest, the Forest Temple introduces the Whirlwind, a crucial item for solving environmental puzzles, navigating treacherous terrain, and defeating specific enemies. This temple focuses on air currents, poisonous gas, and plant-based foes.
Floor 1: Acquiring the Whirlwind
- Objective: Obtain the dungeon's primary item, the Whirlwind.
- Walkthrough:
- Upon entering, proceed north through the initial corridor.
- You'll enter a larger room with several Deku Babas and Keese. Defeat all enemies in this room.
- Once all enemies are defeated, the door to the north will unlock. Proceed through it.
- In the next room, you'll encounter a mini-boss: a large Mothula.
- Mini-Boss Strategy (Mothula): The Mothula will fly around the room. Wait for it to swoop down, then attack it with your sword. After taking some damage, it may release smaller Mothulas. Defeat these quickly. Continue attacking the main Mothula until it is defeated.
- Upon defeating the Mothula, a large chest will appear. Open it to receive the Whirlwind.
- Enemies: Deku Babas, Keese, Mothula (Mini-Boss).
- Items: Whirlwind (Chest, after mini-boss).
- Common Pitfalls: Not realizing the door is locked until all enemies are defeated.
Floor 2: Whirlwind Utility and Navigation
- Objective: Utilize the Whirlwind to clear obstacles and defeat new enemy types.
- Walkthrough:
- Return to the previous room. You'll notice areas filled with poisonous gas. Equip the Whirlwind.
- Aim the Whirlwind at the poisonous gas and blow to temporarily disperse it, creating a path. Move quickly before the gas reforms.
- Proceed through the cleared path. You'll encounter small, plant-like enemies (Pestilence Plants) that are immune to your sword.
- Enemy Strategy (Pestilence Plants): Use the Whirlwind to blow these enemies into pits or off ledges to defeat them.
- Navigate through the various rooms, using the Whirlwind to clear gas and defeat enemies. Look for a path leading to the eastern side of the floor.
- In the eastern room, you'll find a series of unlit torches. Use the Whirlwind to blow a nearby lit torch's flame onto the unlit ones, opening a door.
- Proceed through this door to find the stairs leading to Floor 3.
- Enemies: Mothulas, Pestilence Plants.
- Puzzles: Clearing poisonous gas, knocking enemies into pits, lighting torches with air currents.
Floor 3: Activating the Main Fan
- Objective: Activate the main mechanism of the temple to clear gas from lower levels and access new areas.
- Walkthrough:
- This floor features a large central fan mechanism. Your goal is to activate it.
- You'll notice several platforms that can be moved by blowing on them with the Whirlwind. Carefully navigate these platforms, using the Whirlwind to propel them across gaps and reach new sections of the room.
- Along the way, you'll encounter Octoroks. Use the Whirlwind to deflect their projectiles back at them or to stun them for a sword attack.
- Reach the control mechanism for the central fan, typically a switch or a series of targets that need to be hit with the Whirlwind.
- Activate the fan. This will clear the poisonous gas from the lower levels of the temple, opening up new pathways and making previous areas safer.
- Explore the newly accessible areas. You'll likely find a room with several enemies (e.g., more Deku Babas or Mothulas). Defeat them all to reveal a chest containing a Small Key.
- Use the Small Key to unlock a locked door, which typically leads to the boss chamber or a path to it.
- Enemies: Octoroks, Deku Babas, Mothulas.
- Items: Small Key (Chest, after solving a puzzle or defeating enemies).
- Puzzles: Moving platforms with Whirlwind, activating the central fan, using Small Key.
Floor 4: Boss Battle - Stagnox, the Armored Colossus
- Objective: Defeat the dungeon boss to obtain a Heart Container and progress the main quest.
- Walkthrough:
- Enter the boss arena. Stagnox, a massive armored beetle, will appear.
- Phase 1: Armored Form
- Stagnox is heavily armored on top, making direct sword attacks ineffective.
- His weak point is his soft underside.
- Wait for Stagnox to charge or move close. Use the Whirlwind to blow underneath him, flipping him onto his back.
- While he is flipped, quickly run up to his exposed belly and attack it repeatedly with your sword.
- After taking damage, Stagnox will right himself and may summon smaller beetle enemies (Stagnox Larvae). Defeat these quickly as they can be a nuisance.
- Repeat the process of flipping him with the Whirlwind and attacking his underside.
- Phase 2: Enraged Form
- After taking significant damage, Stagnox will become enraged, moving faster and charging more aggressively.
- His strategy remains largely the same: flip him with the Whirlwind, then attack his belly with your sword.
- Be mindful of his increased speed and the larger number of larvae he might summon. Keep moving and prioritize flipping him.
- Continue this pattern until Stagnox is defeated.
- Boss Strategy: Use Whirlwind to flip Stagnox, then attack his exposed belly with your Sword.
- Rewards: Heart Container, access to the next Spirit Track segment.
- Recommended Loadout: Full health, a few Potions if you're struggling with dodging.
Snow Temple
The Snow Temple introduces the versatile Boomerang, an item essential for hitting distant targets, carrying elements, and navigating icy environments. This dungeon challenges you with ice-based puzzles, slippery surfaces, and cold-resistant foes.
Floor 1: Acquiring the Boomerang
- Objective: Obtain the dungeon's primary item, the Boomerang.
- Walkthrough:
- Upon entering, you'll be in an icy chamber. Navigate the slippery paths carefully.
- You'll encounter Ice Keese and Freezards. Freezards can be temporarily stunned with sword attacks, but are best dealt with later.
- Look for areas with Ice Fruit. These can be picked up and thrown to freeze water, creating temporary platforms or blocking enemies.
- Proceed through the various rooms, often requiring you to throw Ice Fruit to create a path across water or to stop steam vents.
- In the northern section of the floor, you'll find a mini-boss: a large Freezard.
- Mini-Boss Strategy (Large Freezard): The Freezard will periodically create smaller Freezards and shoot ice projectiles. Dodge its attacks. Wait for it to open its mouth to attack, then throw an Ice Fruit into its mouth to freeze it. While frozen, attack it with your sword. Repeat until defeated.
- Upon defeating the large Freezard, a chest will appear. Open it to receive the Boomerang.
- Enemies: Ice Keese, Freezards (including a mini-boss).
- Items: Boomerang (Chest, after mini-boss).
- Common Pitfalls: Slipping off ledges, getting hit by ice projectiles.
Floor 2: Boomerang Utility and Elemental Transfer
- Objective: Utilize the Boomerang to hit distant switches and transfer elements like fire.
- Walkthrough:
- Return to previous areas, now equipped with the Boomerang.
- You'll encounter rooms with distant switches, often across gaps or behind obstacles. Equip the Boomerang and draw a path for it to hit these switches, opening doors or activating mechanisms.
- A key puzzle involves unlit torches and a single lit torch. Draw a path for the Boomerang to pick up the flame from the lit torch and carry it to the unlit ones. This will melt ice blocks or activate new paths.
- You'll also encounter White Wolfos. These enemies are quick. You can stun them with the Boomerang before attacking with your sword.
- Navigate through the floor, using the Boomerang's versatility to solve puzzles and defeat enemies. Look for the path leading to Floor 3.
- Enemies: White Wolfos.
- Puzzles: Hitting distant switches, carrying flame with Boomerang to melt ice or light torches.
Floor 3: Shifting Ice Blocks and Complex Puzzles
- Objective: Navigate complex ice block puzzles and open the path to the boss.
- Walkthrough:
- This floor features large ice blocks that can be pushed, pulled, or moved by hitting switches.
- You'll need to use the Boomerang to hit switches that control the movement of these blocks, creating intricate paths to new areas. Some switches might be hidden or require precise Boomerang throws.
- Be careful not to get trapped by moving blocks. Plan your moves carefully.
- You'll encounter Ice Wizzrobes, who teleport and shoot ice magic. Use the Boomerang to stun them, then attack with your sword, or deflect their magic back at them.
- A major puzzle involves lighting a series of torches in a specific order or within a time limit to open a large door. Use the Boomerang to carry flame from a central source to all the required torches.
- After solving the ice block puzzles and lighting the torches, you'll gain access to a chest containing a Small Key.
- Use the Small Key to unlock the door leading to the boss chamber.
- Enemies: Ice Wizzrobes.
- Items: Small Key (Chest, after solving ice block and torch puzzles).
- Puzzles: Moving ice blocks with switches, lighting multiple torches with the Boomerang.
Floor 4: Boss Battle - Fraaz, Master of Icy Fire
- Objective: Defeat the dungeon boss to obtain a Heart Container and progress the main quest.
- Walkthrough:
- Enter the boss arena. Fraaz, a fiery and icy demon, will appear.
- Phase 1: Elemental Weakness
- Fraaz will alternate between a fire form and an ice form.
- When Fraaz is in his ice form (blue), he is vulnerable to fire. Use the Boomerang to grab a flame from one of the lit torches around the arena and hit Fraaz with it.
- When Fraaz is in his fire form (red), he is vulnerable to ice. He will periodically summon small ice enemies (Ice Chuchus) or shoot ice shards. Defeat an Ice Chuchu or wait for an ice shard to appear, then use the Boomerang to grab the ice element and hit Fraaz with it.
- After hitting him with the opposing element, Fraaz will be stunned and fall to the ground. Quickly run up to him and attack him repeatedly with your sword.
- Fraaz will also summon Fire Chuchus in his fire form. Be careful not to grab fire when he's in his fire form, as it will heal him.
- Phase 2: Increased Aggression
- As Fraaz takes more damage, he will become more aggressive, moving faster and summoning more elemental Chuchus.
- He may also split into multiple copies, requiring you to identify the real one (often the one that glows or moves differently) before applying the elemental attack.
- Maintain focus on hitting him with the opposite element to stun him, then attack with your sword.
- Continue this pattern until Fraaz is defeated.
- Boss Strategy: Use Boomerang to transfer the opposing element (Fire to Ice Fraaz, Ice to Fire Fraaz), then attack with Sword.
- Rewards: Heart Container, access to the next Spirit Track segment.
- Recommended Loadout: Full health, Potions for emergencies. Practice your Boomerang aiming!
