Walkthrough: Dark Realm & Final Boss
The moment of truth has arrived! With the Spirit Flute in hand and Princess Zelda by your side, it's time to confront Malladus and save Hyrule. This section will guide you through the treacherous Dark Realm and the multi-stage final boss battle.
Navigating the Dark Realm
The Dark Realm is a perilous place, filled with enemies and environmental hazards. Your trusty Spirit Train is your only safe haven. Remember these key strategies:
- Maintain Speed: Keep your train moving at a good pace to avoid most ground-based enemies.
- Cannon Fire: Many enemies will attempt to ram your train or fire projectiles. Be ready with your cannon to take them out quickly. Prioritize enemies that are directly in your path or those that fire rapidly.
- Spirit Tracks: The tracks in the Dark Realm are often broken or obscured. Use the Spirit Flute to play the appropriate Spirit Tracks song when prompted to reveal new paths or repair damaged sections. Pay close attention to the map on the top screen for upcoming track changes.
- Dark Trains: You'll encounter shadowy versions of the Spirit Train. These are hostile and will try to ram you. Use your cannon to destroy them before they get too close. They often drop valuable Force Gems or hearts.
- Health Management: The Dark Realm can be draining. If you're low on hearts, try to destroy as many enemies as possible, as they sometimes drop recovery items.
The Demon Train Chase
After a short journey, you'll be confronted by the Demon Train, controlled by Chancellor Cole. This is a high-speed chase where precision and quick reflexes are paramount.
- Initial Pursuit: The Demon Train will be ahead of you. Your goal is to catch up and damage it.
- Cannon Barrage: Fire your cannon relentlessly at the Demon Train's caboose. It has a visible health bar.
- Dodging Obstacles: The Demon Train will drop obstacles like explosive barrels and spikes. Swiftly switch tracks to avoid these. Missing an obstacle will cause significant damage to your train.
- Side Attacks: Occasionally, the Demon Train will pull alongside you and attempt to ram. Keep firing your cannon and try to hit its vulnerable side.
- Repeat and Conquer: Continue this pattern of pursuit, cannon fire, and obstacle avoidance until the Demon Train's health bar is depleted.
Final Boss: Malladus & Cole
The final confrontation is a multi-phase battle against the Demon King Malladus, possessing Princess Zelda, and Chancellor Cole.
Phase 1: Malladus (Zelda's Body) & Cole
Malladus, in Zelda's body, will be on the ground, while Cole will be floating above, firing projectiles. This phase requires teamwork with Princess Zelda (as a Spirit).
- Stun Malladus: Malladus will charge at you. When he does, Princess Zelda will instruct you to use the Bow and Arrow. Fire an arrow at Malladus to stun him temporarily.
- Zelda's Spirit Attack: While Malladus is stunned, Princess Zelda's spirit will appear. Quickly switch to the Phantom Zelda on the bottom screen and guide her to attack Malladus from behind. She will possess him for a brief period.
- Target Cole: While Zelda is possessing Malladus, quickly switch back to Link and use your Bow and Arrow to target Chancellor Cole, who is now vulnerable. Fire as many arrows as you can at him.
- Repeat: Malladus will recover and charge again. Repeat steps 1-3 until Cole's health bar is depleted.
Phase 2: Malladus (True Form)
With Cole defeated, Malladus will shed Zelda's body and reveal his true, monstrous form. This phase focuses on using the Spirit Flute and your sword.
- Malladus's Roar: Malladus will periodically roar, creating sound waves that push you back. Use the Spirit Flute to play the Song of Awakening (the same song used to wake up the Lokomos). This will disrupt his roar and temporarily stun him.
- Sword Attack: While Malladus is stunned, rush in and attack his glowing weak point (usually his head or chest) with your sword.
- Avoid Attacks: Malladus has powerful claw swipes and fire breath. Roll or run to avoid these.
- Repeat: Continue stunning him with the Spirit Flute and attacking his weak point until his health is significantly lowered.
Phase 3: Malladus's Weak Point & Finishing Blow
Malladus will become more aggressive. This final phase requires precise timing and the use of the Bow and Arrow.
- Exposed Weak Point: Malladus will occasionally expose a large, glowing weak point on his back or head. This is your primary target.
- Arrow Barrage: When the weak point is exposed, quickly switch to your Bow and Arrow and fire as many arrows as you can.
- Princess Zelda's Help: Princess Zelda will sometimes create openings or distract Malladus, giving you a chance to hit his weak point. Pay attention to her cues.
- Final Strike: Once Malladus's health is completely depleted, a final cinematic will trigger, where you'll deliver the finishing blow. Congratulations, hero! You've saved Hyrule!
