Train Parts & Customization

The Spirit Train is comprised of four key components: the Engine, Carriage, Freight Car, and Cabin. Each part can be upgraded, offering various benefits from increased durability to enhanced speed and cargo capacity. Upgrades are purchased from the Train Shop in Aboda Village or by completing specific side quests.

Engine Upgrades

The Engine determines your train's overall speed and power. A stronger engine allows for faster travel and better handling of heavy loads.

Standard Engine: Your starting engine. Basic speed and durability.
Steel Engine: Purchased from the Aboda Village Train Shop after clearing the Forest Temple. Offers a moderate increase in speed and durability. Costs 1,000 Rupees.
Iron Engine: Available after clearing the Snow Temple. Significantly boosts speed and durability, making longer journeys more efficient. Costs 2,500 Rupees.
Gold Engine: The ultimate engine upgrade, unlocked after clearing the Ocean Temple. Provides maximum speed and durability, essential for late-game challenges. Costs 5,000 Rupees.

Carriage Upgrades

Steel Carriage: Purchased from the Aboda Village Train Shop after clearing the Forest Temple. Offers improved defense. Costs 800 Rupees.
Iron Carriage: Available after clearing the Snow Temple. Provides substantial defense, reducing damage taken from enemy projectiles. Costs 2,000 Rupees.
Gold Carriage: The strongest carriage, unlocked after clearing the Ocean Temple. Offers the highest defense rating. Costs 4,000 Rupees.

Freight Car Upgrades

Cabin Upgrades

Train Maintenance & Repair

Your Spirit Train will inevitably take damage from enemy attacks, collisions, or even environmental hazards. Regular maintenance is key to preventing breakdowns and ensuring smooth travel.

Repairing Your Train

If your train takes damage, its health bar (displayed on the top screen during train travel) will decrease. Should it reach zero, your train will break down, and you'll be forced to return to the nearest station for repairs.

Train Stations: Most train stations across New Hyrule offer repair services. Simply pull into a station and speak to the Station Master. Repairs are not free and the cost depends on the extent of the damage.
Emergency Repairs: While there are no "on-the-go" repair items, keeping your train's parts upgraded will increase its overall durability, reducing the frequency of needed repairs.

Horn Upgrades

The train horn is more than just a signaling device; it can be used to deter certain enemies and even solve puzzles. Upgrading your horn enhances its effectiveness.

Standard Horn: Your initial horn. Basic sound.
Whistle Horn: Obtained by completing the "Lost Child" side quest in Aboda Village. This horn has a slightly wider range and can startle more enemies.
Loud Horn: Acquired after completing the "Goron Hot Spring Delivery" side quest from Goron Village. This powerful horn can stun larger enemies and clear certain obstacles.

Collecting Train Parts

Beyond purchasing upgrades, you can also find unique train parts by completing side quests or defeating specific enemies. These parts often offer aesthetic changes or unique, minor bonuses.

Wooden Train Parts: Occasionally dropped by defeated enemies or found in treasure chests. These are primarily cosmetic.
