Equipment Upgrades

Beyond simply acquiring new items, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap offers several crucial opportunities to upgrade your existing equipment, significantly enhancing Link's combat prowess and defensive capabilities. Prioritizing these upgrades will make your journey through Hyrule much smoother and boss battles more manageable.

Sword Upgrades

Your trusty sword is your primary weapon, and its strength can be increased multiple times throughout the game. Each upgrade makes Link's attacks more potent, allowing you to defeat enemies faster and deal more damage to bosses.

  • White Sword (Two Elements)
    • Requirement: Obtain the Earth Element and the Fire Element.
    • Location: After acquiring both the Earth and Fire Elements, head to the Elemental Sanctuary. Place both elements into their respective pedestals. The White Sword will be imbued with their power, becoming stronger.
    • Benefit: Increased attack power.
  • White Sword (Three Elements)
    • Requirement: Obtain the Earth Element, Fire Element, and Water Element.
    • Location: Once you have all three elements, return to the Elemental Sanctuary. Place the Water Element alongside the Earth and Fire Elements.
    • Benefit: Further increased attack power, and unlocks the ability to perform the "Spin Attack" (charge your sword by holding the attack button).
  • Four Sword
    • Requirement: Obtain all four elements (Earth, Fire, Water, and Wind).
    • Location: After collecting all four elements, return to the Elemental Sanctuary one final time. Place the Wind Element with the others. The White Sword will transform into the legendary Four Sword.
    • Benefit: Significantly increased attack power. More importantly, it allows Link to split into multiple copies of himself (up to four), which is essential for solving many puzzles and dealing massive damage to certain enemies and bosses.

Shield Upgrades

While you start with a basic shield, a more robust option is available to protect Link from a wider array of projectiles.

  • Mirror Shield
    • Requirement: Complete the Goron side quest. This involves fusing Kinstone pieces with various Gorons hidden around Hyrule.
    • Location:
      1. First, find the Goron in the Lon Lon Ranch cave (requires the Mole Mitts). Fuse Kinstones with him.
      2. This will open a path in the Veil Falls area. Head there and find another Goron. Fuse Kinstones with him.
      3. Repeat this process, finding and fusing Kinstones with all five Gorons. Each fusion will open a new path leading to the next Goron.
      4. Once all five Gorons have been fused with, a final Goron will appear in the cave at Lon Lon Ranch. Fuse with him to open the way to the Mirror Shield.
    • Benefit: The Mirror Shield can reflect certain magical projectiles back at enemies, a crucial ability for defeating specific foes and bosses. It also offers superior defense compared to the regular shield.

Wallet Upgrades

Running out of Rupees can be a frustrating experience. Upgrading your wallet allows you to carry more currency, ensuring you can afford those expensive items and Kinstone fusions.

  • Big Wallet (200 Rupees)
    • Requirement: Fuse Kinstones with a specific character.
    • Location: Fuse Kinstones with the Minish in the Minish Woods who is standing near the small pond. This will cause a chest to appear in the Western Wood.
    • Strategy: Head to the Western Wood and locate the newly appeared chest. Open it to receive the Big Wallet.
    • Benefit: Increases your maximum Rupee capacity from 99 to 200.
  • Giant Wallet (500 Rupees)
    • Requirement: Fuse Kinstones with another specific character.
    • Location: Fuse Kinstones with the Business Scrub located in the Eastern Hills. This fusion will cause a chest to appear in the North Hyrule Field.
    • Strategy: Travel to the North Hyrule Field and find the chest that has materialized. Open it to claim the Giant Wallet.
    • Benefit: Increases your maximum Rupee capacity from 200 to 500.
  • Huge Wallet (999 Rupees)
    • Requirement: Complete the Figurine Collection quest.
    • Location: After collecting all 130 Figurines from Carlov in the Hyrule Town shop, speak to him. He will reward you with the Huge Wallet.
    • Strategy: This is a late-game endeavor. Focus on fusing Kinstones, exploring every nook and cranny, and completing side quests to unlock all the figurines. Once you have them all, visit Carlov.
    • Benefit: Maxes out your Rupee capacity at 999, allowing you to carry a vast amount of money for any purchase.
