Minigames and Diversions

Beyond the main quest of saving Hyrule, The Minish Cap offers a delightful array of minigames and side activities that provide valuable rewards, heart pieces, and a welcome break from dungeon crawling. Mastering these diversions is key to fully exploring everything the game has to offer.

Carlov's Figurine Shop

Location: Hyrule Town, just south of the fountain.

Overview: Carlov's shop is where you can collect Kinstone-powered figurines. Each figurine costs 10 Rupees, and you can only purchase one at a time. The goal is to collect all 130 figurines. Collecting them all unlocks a special reward and is essential for 100% completion.

  • How to Play: Simply talk to Carlov and pay 10 Rupees. He will randomly dispense a figurine you haven't collected yet.
  • Strategy:
    • Rupee Farming: You'll need a lot of Rupees to collect all figurines. Good farming spots include the Western Wood (cutting grass), Castor Wilds (defeating enemies), and the Royal Valley (graves with Rupees).
    • Check Your Collection: You can view your collected figurines in the "Figurine Collection" menu from your inventory. This helps track your progress.
    • Patience is Key: Since the figurines are dispensed randomly, it might take many attempts and a significant amount of Rupees to get the rarer ones. Don't get discouraged!
  • Rewards:
    • Collecting all 130 figurines earns you the Carlov's Medal, which can be shown to the man in the house north of the fountain in Hyrule Town for a special surprise.
    • Each figurine also has a description that often provides lore or hints about characters and locations in Hyrule.

Simon's Simulations (House of Games)

Location: Hyrule Town, in the southeast corner.

Overview: Simon's House of Games offers a challenging minigame where you navigate a small maze as a Minish-sized Link, avoiding enemies and reaching the goal within a time limit. There are three difficulty levels, each with increasing rewards.

  • How to Play:
    1. Enter the House of Games and speak to Simon.
    2. Choose your difficulty: Easy (10 Rupees), Medium (20 Rupees), or Hard (30 Rupees).
    3. You'll shrink down and be placed in a maze. Use the D-pad to move Link.
    4. Avoid the moving enemies (Slimes, Peahats, etc.) and reach the glowing exit tile before the timer runs out.
  • Strategy:
    • Memorize Patterns: The enemy movements are often predictable. Observe their paths before making your move.
    • Use the Environment: Sometimes there are safe spots or narrow passages.
    • Practice: Start with the Easy difficulty to get a feel for the controls and enemy behaviors.
  • Rewards:
    • Easy (10 Rupees): 20 Rupees (net gain 10 Rupees).
    • Medium (20 Rupees): 40 Rupees (net gain 20 Rupees).
    • Hard (30 Rupees): Heart Piece (first time), then 60 Rupees (net gain 30 Rupees) on subsequent wins. This Heart Piece is crucial for increasing your maximum health.

Goron Merchant's Kinstone Fusion

Location: Lon Lon Ranch, inside the cave on the eastern side (requires the Cane of Pacci to flip a cart). After fusing Kinstones with the first Goron in the Veil Falls cave, more Gorons will appear here.

Overview: This isn't a traditional minigame, but a series of Kinstone fusions that unlock a significant side quest and reward. You'll need to find and fuse with all 5 Gorons.

  • How to Play:
    1. Locate the Gorons. The first is in Veil Falls (requires the Flippers).
    2. Fuse Kinstones with each Goron. They all require Red Kinstone Pieces.
    3. Each successful fusion will cause another Goron to appear in the Lon Lon Ranch cave.
  • Strategy:
    • Collect Red Kinstones: Defeat enemies, cut grass, and open chests to gather a good supply of Red Kinstone Pieces.
    • Explore Thoroughly: The Gorons are initially hidden. The first Goron is in the cave behind the waterfall in Veil Falls.
  • Rewards:
    • Fusing with all 5 Gorons will cause a large Goron to appear in the Lon Lon Ranch cave.
    • This large Goron will then dig a hole, revealing a Heart Piece and the Biggoron Sword. The Biggoron Sword is a powerful weapon that replaces your shield, offering increased damage at the cost of defense.

Cucco Chick Catching

Location: Eastern Hills, in the house of the Cucco Lady (Anju).

Overview: Anju, the Cucco Lady, will ask you to gather her runaway Cucco chicks. This is a timed challenge where you must catch all the chicks within a given time limit.

  • How to Play:
    1. Speak to Anju in her house in Eastern Hills.
    2. Agree to help her catch the chicks.
    3. You'll be placed in a fenced area with numerous Cucco chicks. Run around and grab them by pressing the A button when near them.
    4. Return them to Anju before the timer runs out.
  • Strategy:
    • Corner Them: Try to herd the chicks into corners or against fences to make them easier to catch.
    • Anticipate Movement: Chicks move erratically, so try to predict their paths.
    • Practice: The first few attempts might be tricky, but you'll get faster with practice.
  • Rewards:
    • Successfully catching all the chicks within the time limit earns you a Heart Piece. This can only be obtained once.
    • Subsequent successful attempts will reward you with Rupees.

  • How to Play:
    1. Speak to Swiftblade.
    2. He will demonstrate a new sword technique and ask you to replicate it.
    3. Follow his instructions carefully, often involving specific button presses or combinations.
  • Strategy:
    • Listen Carefully: Pay attention to Swiftblade's dialogue for precise instructions.
    • Practice the Timing: Some techniques require precise timing of button presses.
    • Equip the Sword: Ensure your sword is equipped to perform the techniques.
