The Ancient Legend: The Picori and the Blade
Our story begins with a legend passed down through generations in Hyrule. Long, long ago, when darkness threatened to consume the land, tiny beings known as the Picori (or Minish, as they are called by humans) descended from the sky. These benevolent creatures bestowed upon a brave hero of men two gifts:
- The Picori Blade: A sacred sword imbued with immense power.
- A Golden Light: This light, later revealed to be the Light Force, was a source of immeasurable magical energy.
With these gifts, the hero vanquished the encroaching shadows, restoring peace to Hyrule. To commemorate this pivotal event, the Royal Family of Hyrule established the Picori Festival, a celebration held once every hundred years to honor the tiny heroes and the legend of the sacred blade.
The Picori Festival and Vaati's Arrival
As our adventure begins, Hyrule is abuzz with the preparations for the centennial Picori Festival. Link, a young boy from Hyrule Town, is tasked by Princess Zelda to deliver the newly forged Picori Blade to the festival's opening ceremony. However, this joyous occasion is tragically interrupted by the arrival of the malevolent sorcerer, Vaati.
Vaati, once a Minish himself who was corrupted by the darkness within the hearts of men, seeks the legendary Light Force. Believing it to be hidden within the Picori Blade, he shatters the sword, turning Princess Zelda to stone in the process. His actions unleash a horde of monsters across Hyrule and plunge the land into chaos.
The Quest for the Four Elements
With Zelda petrified and the Picori Blade broken, Link is tasked by the King of Hyrule to find a way to restore the sword and save the princess. His journey leads him to the mysterious talking cap, Ezlo, who reveals that the Picori Blade is in fact the legendary White Sword, and that its true power can only be unlocked by infusing it with the Four Elements:
- The Earth Element: Found within the Deepwood Shrine.
- The Fire Element: Located in the Temple of Droplets.
- The Water Element: Resides in the Fortress of Winds.
- The Wind Element: Guarded within the Palace of Winds.
Ezlo, who was Vaati's former master, also reveals that Vaati stole his magical cap form, which is why Ezlo now appears as a talking green cap. Ezlo's knowledge of the Minish world and their ways becomes invaluable to Link, as the only way to reach the Elements and ultimately defeat Vaati is by shrinking to the size of the Minish.
The Minish and Their Role
The Minish, or Picori, are tiny, mouse-like beings invisible to most adults. They live in hidden villages and communicate only with children, who possess the pure hearts necessary to perceive them. Throughout your journey, you will encounter various Minish who offer guidance, assistance, and even new abilities. Understanding their customs and helping them will be crucial to progressing through the game.
- Minish Portals: These glowing, mushroom-like objects are your primary means of shrinking and growing. You'll find them scattered across Hyrule, often in unexpected places.
- Minish Village: Your first destination in the Minish world, accessible via the Minish Woods. Here, you'll learn more about the Minish and their history.
- Figurine Collector: The Minish also have a love for collecting Kinstones and fusing them, which often opens up new paths or reveals hidden secrets.
Vaati's True Intentions and the Light Force
As Link gathers the Elements and reforges the White Sword into the Four Sword, Vaati's true intentions become clearer. He is not merely after the Picori Blade, but the legendary Light Force itself, which he believes is hidden within Princess Zelda. His ultimate goal is to absorb this immense power and become an all-powerful being.
The final confrontation will take place in Hyrule Castle, where Vaati has established his stronghold. Link, wielding the fully powered Four Sword and aided by Ezlo, must face Vaati in his monstrous forms and prevent him from plunging Hyrule into eternal darkness.
