Boss: Morpheel
Morpheel, the Twilit Aquatic Parasite, is the boss of the Lakebed Temple. This colossal, eel-like creature presents a unique challenge, requiring both your Iron Boots and the Clawshot to defeat. Be prepared for a two-phase battle, one underwater and one on the surface.
Phase 1: Underwater Engagement
The first phase of this battle takes place entirely underwater. Equip your Iron Boots immediately upon entering the arena to sink to the bottom. Morpheel will swim around the central pillar, occasionally revealing its massive eye, which is its primary weak point.
Strategy:
- Locate the Eye: Morpheel's eye will periodically emerge from its body. It's usually located on its head or sometimes along its side.
- Target with the Clawshot: Once the eye is visible, quickly switch to your Clawshot. Target the eye and fire.
- Melee Attack: After successfully latching onto the eye with the Clawshot, you will be pulled towards it. While attached, rapidly slash at the eye with your Master Sword. You'll typically get 3-4 hits in before Morpheel recoils.
- Avoid Tentacles: Morpheel will also release smaller, dark tentacles from its body. These will attempt to grab Link and pull him towards the main body, dealing damage. Swim away from them or use your sword to fend them off if they get too close.
- Manage Oxygen: Keep an eye on your oxygen meter. If it gets low, quickly swim up to the surface for air, then re-equip your Iron Boots and dive back down.
- Repeat: Continue this pattern of targeting the eye with the Clawshot and attacking it with your sword until Morpheel has taken enough damage to transition to its second phase. After several successful attacks, Morpheel will let out a roar and begin to change its behavior.
Phase 2: Surface Battle
After taking significant damage, Morpheel will detach itself from the central pillar and begin swimming freely around the entire arena, rising to the surface. This phase requires you to be quick and precise with your movements and attacks.
Strategy:
- Equip Iron Boots (Initially): Start by keeping your Iron Boots equipped to stay submerged.
- Target the Eye on its Back: Morpheel's weak point, its eye, will now be located on its back, exposed as it swims around the surface.
- Clawshot to the Eye: As Morpheel swims past, target the eye on its back with your Clawshot. This will pull you directly onto its back.
- Unleash a Barrage: Once you're on Morpheel's back, quickly unequip your Iron Boots to float freely. This is crucial for maintaining your position. Then, unleash a flurry of attacks with your Master Sword on the eye.
- Stay Attached: Morpheel will attempt to shake you off by swimming erratically. Keep mashing the attack button and try to stay centered on the eye. If you fall off, quickly re-equip your Iron Boots and dive to the bottom to prepare for the next pass.
- Repeat and Conquer: Continue to latch onto Morpheel's back, attack its eye, and avoid falling off until its health bar is depleted.
Upon its defeat, Morpheel will explode, leaving behind a Heart Container. Collect it to increase your maximum health, then proceed to the glowing portal to claim the Fused Shadow piece.
