Light Spirit Quests

As you journey through the shadowed lands of Hyrule, you'll frequently encounter areas engulfed by the Twilight. To restore these regions to their former glory and allow the Light Spirits to reclaim their power, you must embark on crucial quests to collect Tears of Light. These quests are mandatory to progress through the main story, as each Light Spirit will grant you a new Fused Shadow piece upon completion.

Faron Woods: Eldin's Tears of Light

Your first encounter with the Twilight will be in Faron Woods. After Midna pulls you into the Twilight Realm, you'll transform into a wolf. Your objective here is to gather 16 Tears of Light for the Light Spirit Eldin.

  • Initial Encounter: Upon entering Faron Woods as a wolf, you'll be tasked with finding the first three Tears of Light. These are relatively straightforward, often found by defeating Shadow Beasts in the immediate vicinity of the Faron Spring.
  • Path to the Forest Temple: Continue along the path towards the Forest Temple. You'll encounter groups of Shadow Beasts. Defeat them to reveal Tears of Light. Remember to use your Sense ability (press 'C' on GameCube, 'Z' on Wii) to locate the glowing insects.
  • Hidden Tears: Some Tears are hidden. Use your Sense to spot dig spots, particularly near trees or rocks. Digging in these locations will often unearth a Tear.
  • Monkey Bridge Area: In the area with the broken bridge and the monkey, you'll find several Tears. One is usually on the small island accessible by jumping across the gap. Another is often found after defeating the Shadow Beasts that appear when you try to cross the bridge.
  • Final Tears: The last few Tears are typically found closer to the entrance of the Forest Temple. Be thorough in sniffing out all areas and defeating any remaining Shadow Beasts. Once all 16 Tears are collected, return to the Faron Spring to restore Eldin.

Kakariko Village: Lanayru's Tears of Light

After restoring Eldin and completing the Forest Temple, your next task will lead you to Kakariko Village, which has also fallen into Twilight. You'll need to gather 16 Tears of Light for the Light Spirit Lanayru.

  • Graveyard Entry: Start by heading into the Kakariko Graveyard. You'll find a few Tears here, often by defeating Shadow Beasts or digging near gravestones.
  • Kakariko Village Proper: Explore the village thoroughly. Many Tears are found by defeating the numerous Shadow Beasts patrolling the streets. Pay attention to rooftops and higher ledges; some Tears might require a well-aimed jump or a creative path.
  • Bomb Shop Area: Check around the Bomb Shop and the surrounding buildings. There's often a Tear or two hidden in this section.
  • Death Mountain Trail: A significant number of Tears are located on the path leading up Death Mountain. Be prepared for multiple encounters with Shadow Beasts. Utilize your Midna Jump ability (target a ledge and press 'A' on GameCube, 'Z' on Wii) to reach higher areas.
  • Hot Spring Cave: Inside the cave where the Gorons are usually found, you'll encounter more Shadow Beasts and Tears.
  • Eldin Bridge Area: check the area around the Eldin Bridge, leading out of Kakariko. There are often a few straggler Tears here.
  • Strategic Combat: When facing multiple Shadow Beasts, remember the strategy: defeat the first wave, then quickly target and defeat the remaining two before they can revive their fallen comrades. This is crucial for efficient Tear collection.

Zora's Domain: Faron's Tears of Light

Following the events in Kakariko Village and the Goron Mines, you'll find Zora's Domain frozen solid and shrouded in Twilight. This time, you'll be collecting 16 Tears of Light for the Light Spirit Faron.

  • Zora's River Entry: Begin your search along Zora's River. You'll encounter Shadow Beasts on the banks and in the water. Use your wolf form's swimming ability to navigate the river.
  • Upper Zora's River: As you progress upstream, you'll find more Tears. Some are on small islands, others are hidden along the riverbanks.
  • Zora's Domain Proper: Once you reach the frozen Zora's Domain, the challenge increases. Many Tears are located on the ice, requiring careful navigation.
  • Underwater Tears: Several Tears are submerged beneath the ice. You'll need to locate openings in the ice (often created by Midna) and dive down to retrieve them. Use your Sense to pinpoint their exact locations.
  • Ice Cave: There's a cave system within Zora's Domain that contains more Shadow Beasts and Tears. Be thorough in exploring all its nooks and crannies.
  • Snowpeak Entrance: check the path leading towards Snowpeak. There are often a few Tears scattered in this connecting area.
  • Midna's Help: Midna will often point out areas of interest or provide hints on how to reach certain Tears, especially those in difficult-to-access locations. Pay attention to her prompts.

Completing these Light Spirit Quests is essential for advancing the main storyline and restoring light to the various regions of Hyrule. Each successful quest brings you closer to confronting the true darkness that plagues the land.
