Navigating Dungeon 3: The Manji & Key Items

Welcome, brave adventurer, to Dungeon 3, affectionately known as "The Manji" due to its distinctive swastika-like layout. This dungeon introduces new challenges and rewards you with essential items for your journey across Hyrule. Prepare for encounters with familiar foes and the relentless Manhandla!

Dungeon Walkthrough: Securing the Raft, Map, and Compass

Upon entering Dungeon 3, Link finds himself in a relatively safe antechamber. Your immediate goal is to acquire the dungeon's key items and prepare for the boss battle.

  1. Starting Chamber & First Key:
    • From the entrance, immediately head right.
    • This room is patrolled by several Ropes (snakes). Defeat them to clear the path and prevent unnecessary damage.
    • A Key will be dropped by one of the defeated enemies or found in the center of the room. Collect it.
  2. Navigating Bubbles & Second Key:
    • Continue heading right into the next chamber.
    • Here, you'll face a mix of Ropes and the troublesome Bubbles. Be extremely cautious of Bubbles; touching them will temporarily disable your sword, leaving you vulnerable. Use your shield to block their approach or avoid them entirely until they dissipate.
    • Once the room is clear, head north through the doorway.
    • This room contains more Ropes. Dispatch them. A second Key will be your reward.
  3. Acquiring the Raft:
    • From the room where you found the second Key, proceed north.
    • You've found it! In the center of this room rests the invaluable Raft.
    • Link collecting the Raft in Dungeon 3 of The Legend of Zelda
Link discovers the essential Raft, opening new pathways in Hyrule.
    • The Raft is a crucial item that allows Link to cross specific bodies of water at designated docks in the Overworld. This opens up entirely new areas for exploration, including access to future dungeons and hidden secrets.
  4. Finding the Map:
    • From the Raft room, head south (back the way you came).
    • Then, proceed left.
    • Next, head north through the locked door (using one of your collected Keys).
    • This room will likely contain more Ropes. Clear them out.
    • Head left into the next chamber.
    • Congratulations! You've found the Map for Dungeon 3. This will now display the layout of the dungeon on your sub-screen, making navigation much easier.
  5. Locating the Compass:
    • From the Map room, head right (back to the previous room).
    • Then, proceed north.
    • This room often features a combination of Bubbles and Ropes. Prioritize avoiding or eliminating the Bubbles to protect your sword.
    • After clearing the room, head right.
    • You've discovered the Compass! This item will now show the location of the Triforce piece (or the boss chamber) on your dungeon map, guiding you directly to your ultimate goal.

Preparing for the Boss: Manhandla's Lair

With the Raft, Map, and Compass in hand, you are now fully equipped to face the dungeon's guardian. Your next steps lead directly to the boss chamber.

  1. Path to the Boss:
    • From the Compass room, head left (back to the room with Bubbles and Ropes).
    • Then, proceed south.
    • Next, head left.
    • Finally, head north through the last locked door. This door leads directly to the boss arena. Ensure you have full health and a good supply of bombs before entering!

Boss Battle: Manhandla

The guardian of Dungeon 3 is the formidable Manhandla, a multi-headed plant-like creature that moves erratically and attacks with fireballs.

Face the multi-headed Manhandla, a true test of your bomb-throwing skills!
Manhandla's Characteristics:
  • Appearance: A central body with four distinct heads, each capable of spitting fireballs.
  • Movement: Moves quickly and unpredictably around the room, often changing direction abruptly.
  • Attacks: Each head can spit fireballs independently, making it challenging to avoid damage.
  • Weakness: Bombs are Manhandla's primary weakness.
Strategy for Defeating Manhandla:

This boss battle is a test of timing and bomb placement. Forget your sword; it's practically useless here.

  1. Bomb Barrage: The key to defeating Manhandla is to strategically place bombs in its path. As Manhandla moves, its heads will occasionally open.
    • Method 1 (Direct Hit): Try to anticipate its movement and place a bomb directly in front of one of its open heads. A direct hit will destroy that head.
    • Method 2 (Cluster Bomb): A more efficient strategy is to wait until Manhandla is moving towards you or is cornered. Place a bomb and try to get all four heads caught in the blast radius. If you can detonate a bomb when all four heads are open and close enough, you can destroy them all simultaneously, defeating Manhandla instantly. This requires good timing and a bit of luck.
  2. Prioritize Evasion: Manhandla's fireballs can deal significant damage. Focus on dodging its attacks while setting up your bomb placements. Keep moving and use the room's layout to your advantage.
  3. Conserve Bombs (Initially): While bombs are essential, don't waste them by throwing them wildly. Wait for good opportunities when Manhandla's heads are open or when you can catch multiple heads in a single blast.
  4. Recommended Loadout:
    • Bombs: Absolutely critical. Ensure you have at least 8-10 bombs before entering. If you're low, consider grinding for rupees to buy more from a shop.
    • Magic Shield: Highly recommended to block fireballs.
    • Full Health: Always a good idea for any boss fight.

Upon defeating Manhandla, collect the third piece of the Triforce of Wisdom that it guards. Congratulations, hero! You've conquered Dungeon 3 and are one step closer to Ganon.
