DLC Content
The Outer Worlds features two substantial story expansions that delve deeper into the Halcyon colony's eccentricities and corporate machinations. Both DLCs offer new planets, companions, weapons, armor, and a host of quests that expand upon the base game's narrative and lore. It's recommended to tackle these expansions after completing the main questline on Monarch, as they are balanced for higher-level characters (typically level 25+).
Peril on Gorgon
The first major DLC, Peril on Gorgon, sends you to the abandoned asteroid colony of Gorgon, a former Spacer's Choice research facility shrouded in mystery and corporate secrets. Expect a darker, more investigative tone as you uncover the truth behind its downfall.
Starting the DLC
To begin Peril on Gorgon, you'll receive a message on your ship's terminal, the Unreliable, after completing the main quest "Radio Free Monarch" and reaching Stellar Bay. The message will be from a mysterious benefactor, offering a lucrative contract to investigate a missing person on Gorgon. Accept the quest "An Invitation" to proceed.
Key Locations & Objectives
- Ambrose Manor: Your initial landing zone and the starting point for your investigation. Speak with Minnie Ambrose to get your first set of objectives.
- Gorgon Landing Pad: The primary fast travel point for the asteroid. Be prepared for hostile wildlife and automated defenses outside the main facility.
- Sprat Shack: A small, dilapidated outpost where you can find some early side quests and vendors. Look for the "Family Reunion" quest here, which can lead to a unique weapon.
- OCI Research & Development: The heart of Gorgon's scientific endeavors. This area is heavily guarded by corporate security and mutated creatures. You'll need to navigate complex labs and solve environmental puzzles to progress.
- Synthesis & Suppression Center: A critical location for uncovering the truth behind Gorgon's experiments. Expect intense combat encounters and morally ambiguous choices.
Notable Items & Gear
- P.E.P. (Plasma Energy Projector): A unique heavy weapon found early in the DLC. It fires concentrated plasma blasts, excellent for dealing with heavily armored foes. Look for it in a locked container within Ambrose Manor, requiring a high Lockpick skill or a key found nearby.
- The Gloop Gun (Unique Variant): While the base Gloop Gun is in the main game, a unique, upgraded version with enhanced stats can be found during the "The Man Who Chained the World" questline.
- Adrena-Time Injector: A new consumable that temporarily boosts all combat skills and movement speed. Found throughout Gorgon, particularly in medical facilities.
- Lightweight Spacer's Choice Armor Set: Offers good protection with a focus on mobility. Pieces are scattered throughout Gorgon, often on fallen Spacer's Choice personnel.
Strategies for Success
- Stealth is Your Friend: Many areas in Gorgon are crawling with enemies. High Sneak and Lockpick skills can allow you to bypass encounters or gain advantageous positions.
- Exploit Elemental Weaknesses: Many of Gorgon's mutated creatures are vulnerable to specific elemental damage types (e.g., plasma for acid-based creatures). Stock up on varied weapon types.
- Companion Synergy: Bring companions that complement your playstyle. Pavarti's engineering skills are useful for hacking terminals, while Felix's melee prowess can help in close-quarters combat.
- Read Everything: Data pads and terminals often contain crucial lore, quest hints, and even passwords to locked areas.
Murder on Eridanos
The second DLC, Murder on Eridanos, transports you to the luxurious, but ultimately deadly, resort world of Eridanos. This expansion shifts to a murder mystery genre, tasking you with solving the death of the famous actress, Halcyon Helen.
Starting the DLC
Similar to Peril on Gorgon, you'll receive a message on your ship's terminal, the Unreliable, after progressing sufficiently in the main story (again, typically after Monarch). The message will be an invitation to Eridanos to investigate the high-profile murder. Accept the quest "The Last Experiment" to begin your journey to the glamorous, yet perilous, resort.
Key Locations & Objectives
- Grand Colonial Hotel: Your base of operations and the primary crime scene. You'll spend a significant amount of time here interviewing suspects and gathering clues.
- Pallas: The main hub of Eridanos, featuring various shops, residences, and the infamous "Distillation Station."
- The Distillation Station: A massive facility responsible for Eridanos's unique "Spectrum" beverages. Expect corporate intrigue and dangerous automated systems.
- Pike's Place: A more rundown, industrial area of Eridanos, contrasting with the luxury of Pallas. Contains important evidence and potential suspects.
- The Purpleberry Orchards: Lush, but potentially hazardous, agricultural zones. Home to unique flora and fauna, and crucial clues related to the murder.
Notable Items & Gear
- The Discrepancy Amplifier: A unique, essential tool for this DLC. It highlights clues and provides insights into the murder investigation. You receive it early in the main quest of the DLC.
- Spectrum Gatling: A heavy machine gun that deals various elemental damage types based on the "Spectrum" cartridges loaded. Found during the "The Productivity Queen" quest.
- Employee's Uniform (Disguise): Several different uniforms can be found throughout Eridanos, allowing you to bypass certain security checks or gain access to restricted areas.
- Unique Melee Weapons: Eridanos introduces several new melee weapons, often with unique effects, such as the "Impact Hammer" which has a chance to stun enemies.
Strategies for Success
- Embrace the Detective Role: The Discrepancy Amplifier is your best friend. Use it frequently to scan environments, objects, and even people for hidden clues.
- Dialogue is Key: Many solutions and insights come from careful conversations with NPCs. High Persuade, Lie, and Intimidate skills are incredibly valuable.
- Explore Thoroughly: Eridanos is packed with hidden areas, side quests, and environmental storytelling. Don't rush through the main quest.
- Consider Your Choices: The murder mystery has multiple possible culprits and endings. Your choices throughout the investigation will directly impact the outcome.
