Understanding Flaws

See how Flaws work in The Outer Worlds. Understand how accepting a permanent debuff to gain a Perk Point impacts your character and build strategy.

Flaws are an optional gameplay mechanic that offers a unique twist. If you repeatedly encounter a specific negative effect (e.g., falling from heights, taking damage from a certain enemy type), the game may offer you a Flaw. Accepting a Flaw grants you a Perk Point, but also applies a permanent debuff. For example, 'Acrophobia' reduces your stats when near high ledges. Carefully consider if the Perk Point is worth the permanent disadvantage, as some Flaws can significantly alter your playstyle. They add a layer of challenge and role-playing depth.
