Beyond the main questline and the more substantial side quests, The Outer Worlds features several smaller, often unlisted objectives known as "Tasks." These are typically straightforward fetch quests, extermination bounties, or delivery jobs that offer quick experience, bits, and sometimes unique gear. While not always critical to the overarching narrative, completing Tasks is an excellent way to gain early-game experience, improve faction reputation, and uncover hidden lore or unique interactions.

Understanding Tasks

Tasks differ from full-blown side quests in a few key ways:

• No Dedicated Quest Log Entry: Many tasks will not appear in your quest log under a specific title. Instead, they might be tracked implicitly, or the objective will be clear from the NPC dialogue.
• Simpler Objectives: Expect objectives like "find X item," "kill Y creatures," or "deliver Z package."
• Localized: Tasks are usually confined to a single area or planet, making them easy to complete without extensive travel.
• Quick Rewards: They're perfect for topping off your experience bar for the next level or earning a few extra bits for that weapon upgrade you've been eyeing.

Notable Early-Game Tasks & Walkthroughs

Here are some of the most common and rewarding tasks you'll encounter in the early stages of your journey, particularly on Terra-2 and Monarch:

Terra-2 (Emerald Vale)

Task: Sprat Wurst Delivery

• Initiator: Abernathy, located in the cannery in Edgewater.
• Objective: Deliver a package of Sprat Wurst to his cousin, Phyllis, in the Botanical Lab.
• Walkthrough:
  1. Speak to Abernathy in the Edgewater Cannery. He'll lament his cousin's poor diet and ask for your help.
  2. Accept the task and receive the Sprat Wurst Package.
  3. Travel to the Botanical Lab, located northeast of Edgewater.
  4. Find Phyllis in the main common area of the Botanical Lab.
  5. Hand over the Sprat Wurst Package.
  6. Reward: Experience, Bits, and a slight positive reputation gain with the Deserters.
• Strategy Tip: This task is often completed naturally alongside the main quest "Comes Now the Power," as you'll be visiting the Botanical Lab anyway.

Task: Missing Medical Supplies

• Initiator: Nurse Ciel, in the Edgewater Medical Bay.
• Objective: Locate and retrieve a missing shipment of medical supplies.
• Walkthrough:
  1. Talk to Nurse Ciel in the Edgewater Medical Bay. She's concerned about a delayed shipment.
  2. The supplies are located in the Abandoned Industrial Zone, a small area southwest of Edgewater, often infested with Marauders.
  3. Navigate through the zone, eliminating any hostile elements.
  4. The Medical Supply Crate is usually found inside one of the smaller, dilapidated buildings. It might require a moderate Lockpicking skill (20-30) to open, or you can find a keycard on a nearby Marauder.
  5. Return to Nurse Ciel with the supplies.
  6. Reward: Experience, Bits, and a positive reputation gain with The Board (Edgewater branch).
• Strategy Tip: Be prepared for combat. The Abandoned Industrial Zone can have several Marauders, including some with heavier weaponry. Bringing a companion like Parvati or Vicar Max can be beneficial.

Monarch (Stellar Bay)

Task: Pest Control

• Initiator: Velma, near the entrance to Stellar Bay.
• Objective: Clear out a specific number of Mantisaurs from a designated area outside Stellar Bay.
• Walkthrough:
  1. Speak to Velma, who is often found near the main gate or a small kiosk just inside Stellar Bay. She'll complain about the encroaching wildlife.
  2. Head out of Stellar Bay through the main gate. The target area is usually marked on your map, often a small canyon or open field just beyond the city limits.
  3. Eliminate the required number of Mantisaurs. These creatures are aggressive and can deal significant melee damage.
  4. Return to Velma for your reward.
  5. Reward: Experience, Bits, and sometimes a few basic consumables like Adreno.
• Strategy Tip: Mantisaurs are susceptible to plasma damage. Consider bringing a plasma-based weapon or companion with plasma capabilities (like Felix with his Shock Stick) to make quick work of them. Aim for their heads for critical hits.

General Task-Hunting Tips

• Talk to Everyone: Many tasks are initiated by seemingly unimportant NPCs. Always take a moment to chat with anyone who has a unique name or a dialogue icon above their head.
• Read Terminals: Information about tasks, bounties, or hidden caches can often be found on public or private terminals. Look for entries that sound like requests or complaints.
• Explore Thoroughly: Tasks often lead you to areas you might otherwise overlook. Don't be afraid to venture off the beaten path.
• Check Notice Boards: In larger settlements like Stellar Bay, keep an eye out for physical notice boards. These often list bounties or simple delivery jobs.
• Listen to Companions: Your companions sometimes have unique dialogue related to tasks or can point you towards opportunities.

By diligently pursuing these smaller objectives, you'll not only bolster your character's progression but also deepen your immersion in the rich, often darkly humorous world of Halcyon.
