Player Home & Storage

In the vast, often hostile, expanse of the Halcyon colony, having a reliable base of operations and secure storage is paramount for any aspiring Spacer. Fortunately, your journey aboard the Unreliable provides just that. This section will guide you through maximizing your ship as your personal hub.

The Unreliable: Your Mobile Home

The Unreliable isn't just a means of transport; it's your primary player home, offering various amenities and, crucially, unlimited storage. You gain access to the ship early in the game after completing the initial quests on Terra-2 and meeting with Phineas Welles. Once you've repaired the ship's power regulator and recruited your first companion, the Unreliable becomes fully functional as your personal base.

Key Areas and Functions:

  • Bridge: This is where you'll navigate the star map, travel between planets, and initiate conversations with your companions. It also houses the ship's terminal, which often contains lore and mission updates.
  • Crew Quarters: Located on the upper deck, these individual rooms are assigned to your companions. While primarily cosmetic, they add to the lived-in feel of your ship.
  • Mess Hall: Found on the main deck, this area is where your crew congregates. It's a good spot to find companions for dialogue and to observe their interactions.
  • Workshop: Crucial for any tinkerer, the workshop is located on the lower deck. Here you'll find the Workbench for weapon and armor modifications, and the Vending Machine for purchasing and selling items.
  • Medical Bay: Also on the lower deck, the Medical Bay features a Medical Workbench for crafting consumables and a Vending Machine for medical supplies.

Unlimited Storage Solutions

One of the most valuable features of the Unreliable is its generous and safe storage. Unlike many other RPGs, you don't need to worry about items despawning or containers resetting. Any container on your ship can be used for indefinite storage.

Recommended Storage Locations:

  • Captain's Locker: Located in your personal quarters on the upper deck, this locker is the most convenient and easily accessible storage unit. It's directly opposite your bed. Simply interact with it to open your inventory and transfer items.
  • Companion Lockers: Each companion's room has a locker. While you can use these, the Captain's Locker is generally more efficient for personal items.
  • Workshop Lockers/Chests: The workshop area on the lower deck contains several containers, including toolboxes and lockers. These are excellent for organizing crafting materials, spare weapons, and armor.
  • Medical Bay Lockers: Similar to the workshop, the medical bay offers containers perfect for storing excess medical supplies, chems, and food.

Storage Strategy:

To keep your inventory manageable and avoid constant trips back to the Unreliable, consider these tips:

  1. Sell Regularly: Don't hoard items you won't use. Regularly visit vending machines (both on your ship and in towns) to sell off junk, duplicate weapons, and armor that doesn't fit your build. This frees up inventory space and earns you bits.
  2. Organize by Type: While not strictly necessary due to unlimited storage, organizing items can save time. For example, keep all your crafting components in one workshop locker, and unique weapons in your Captain's Locker.
  3. use Companion Inventory: Your companions have their own inventory space. While not unlimited, it can be a good temporary solution for carrying extra loot during expeditions. Remember to retrieve items before dismissing them or swapping them out.
  4. Keep Essential Crafting Materials: Always keep a healthy stock of common crafting materials like Weapon Parts, Armor Parts, and Adreno on your person or in an easily accessible ship container. This allows you to repair and modify gear on the fly using workbenches found in the field.

By effectively using the Unreliable and its storage options, you'll ensure you're always prepared for the challenges ahead, without being encumbered by unnecessary clutter.
