2.11. Creating Multiple Sims in a Household

Build the perfect family or group of roommates by mastering the creation of multiple Sims within a single household in The Sims 4's Create-A-Sim (CAS). This section guides you through adding, managing, and defining the relationships between your Sims.

When you first enter Create-A-Sim, you'll start with a single Sim. To add more Sims to your household, simply click the 'Add Sim' button, which usually appears as a '+' icon at the bottom of the screen, next to the current Sim's portrait. Clicking this button will bring up options to 'Add Sim,' 'Add Pet' (if you have the 'Cats & Dogs' expansion), or 'Add Baby' (if you're creating a family with existing parents).

When you choose to 'Add Sim,' you'll be presented with options to create a new Sim from scratch, choose from pre-made Sims, or even import Sims from your Gallery. For a new Sim, you'll go through the familiar CAS process of customizing their appearance, voice, walk style, traits, and aspiration.

Once you have multiple Sims in your household, you can easily switch between them by clicking on their portraits at the bottom of the screen. This allows you to customize each Sim individually. The order of the Sims in the portrait row can also be important, as the first Sim created is typically considered the 'head' of the household and will be the primary Sim you control when starting a new game.

Defining Relationships:

A crucial step when creating multiple Sims is defining their relationships. After creating each Sim, you can click on the relationship icon between any two Sims in the household. This will open a panel where you can set their familial connection:

  • Household Member: This is the default for Sims created together.
  • Roommate: For Sims who live together but are not related.
  • Spouse: For married couples.
  • Sibling: For brothers and sisters.
  • Parent/Child: To establish a direct parent-child relationship.

You can set multiple relationships between Sims. For example, two Sims can be both spouses and siblings (though this is generally not recommended for typical gameplay unless you're aiming for a specific narrative). The game will automatically ass a relationship level (e.g., 'Stranger,' 'Acquaintance,' 'Friend') based on the relationships you define, which can then be further developed in Live Mode.

Household Funds:

When you create a household with multiple Sims, the game asss them a starting amount of Simoleons. This amount is generally higher for larger households to accommodate their needs. You can adjust the household funds using cheats if desired, but the default starting funds are designed to be manageable for a new family.

Tips for Creating Multi-Sim Households:

  • Plan Your Family Structure: Decide if you're creating a traditional family, a group of friends, or something more complex.
  • Ass Roles: Consider which Sim will be the primary breadwinner, caregiver, or responsible for specific chores.
  • Utilize the 'Play with Genetics' Feature: If creating a family with children, use this tool to preview potential offspring.
  • Set Realistic Relationships: Define relationships that make sense for your story.
  • Consider Aspirations and Traits: Ensure your Sims have diverse aspirations and traits to create interesting dynamics.

Creating multiple Sims in a household is fundamental to building rich family legacies and complex social dynamics in The Sims 4. By carefully defining their appearances, personalities, and relationships, you lay the groundwork for countless hours of engaging gameplay.
