2.6. Clothing & Accessories
Create-A-Sim (CAS) is where your Sims' personalities truly begin to take shape, and clothing and accessories play a vital role in defining their style, mood, and even their aspirations. The Sims 4 offers an extensive wardrobe for every occasion, allowing you to dress your Sims from head to toe for any scenario.
Within CAS, you'll find categories for everyday wear, formal attire, athletic outfits, sleepwear, party clothes, and swimwear. Each category allows for multiple outfit slots, so you can create diverse looks for your Sims. Beyond basic clothing, accessories like hats, glasses, jewelry, and gloves add those crucial finishing touches.
Navigating the Wardrobe:
- Categories: The main clothing categories are clearly marked. Click on each to access the available clothing items.
- Filters: To narrow down your choices, use the filters. You can filter by color, material, style (e.g., bohemian, preppy), pack content, and even by specific traits or aspirations.
- Outfit Slots: Each Sim can have up to five outfits for each clothing category. This allows for significant variety in their daily lives.
- Randomize Outfit: If you're stuck for inspiration, the 'Randomize Outfit' button can generate a complete look for the selected category.
Clothing Items:
The Sims 4 offers a vast array of clothing items, including:
- Tops: T-shirts, blouses, sweaters, jackets, vests, and more.
- Bottoms: Pants, shorts, skirts, leggings, and capris.
- Full Body Outfits: Dresses, jumpsuits, and costumes.
- Shoes: Sneakers, boots, heels, sandals, and formal shoes.
Accessories:
Accessories are key to personalizing your Sim's look:
- Headwear: Hats (beanies, fedoras, baseball caps), headbands, and hair accessories.
- Eyewear: Glasses (prescription, sunglasses), goggles, and masks.
- Jewelry: Necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings.
- Gloves: Various styles of gloves for different outfits.
- Socks and Tights: Essential for completing many looks.
Color Swatches and Customization:
Most clothing items and accessories come with multiple color swatches. Clicking on an item will often reveal a palette of different colors and patterns you can apply. This allows for a high degree of customization within the available items.
Occasion-Specific Dressing:
It's important to dress your Sims appropriately for different occasions:
- Everyday: Their standard outfit for daily activities.
- Formal: For weddings, fancy parties, or important events.
- Athletic: For working out or engaging in sports.
- Sleepwear: Pajamas and loungewear for bedtime.
- Party: Outfits suitable for celebrations and social gatherings.
- Swimwear: For swimming pools, hot tubs, or beach outings.
Custom Content (CC) and Mods:
As mentioned in section 10.6, custom content can significantly expand your Sims' wardrobe with unique dess, styles, and items not found in the base game or official packs. If you're looking for specific aesthetics or a wider variety, exploring CC is highly recommended.
By thoughtfully selecting clothing and accessories, you can ensure your Sims not only look good but also feel confident and ready to tackle whatever life in The Sims 4 throws their way.
