The Sims 4 features a robust collection system that ties into various aspirations, making collecting a significant aspect of gameplay. The Base Game alone offers 13 types of collectibles, with more added through Expansion and Game Packs. While collecting is not a skill, certain traits can greatly assist your Sims in their pursuits.

The Base Game includes 16 collections, with an additional 26 from content packs. For example, there are 20 crystals in the base game, collected by digging crystal rocks. Elements (15 in the base game) are obtained by sending crystals and metals to the Geo Council. If Jungle Adventure is installed, elements can also be extracted using an archaeology table. Vampires with maxed "vampiric strength" can instantly crush crystals and metals into elements. The 'Collector' bonus trait, earned from a knowledge aspiration, increases the odds of finding rarer items. Hidden lots like The Grotto and Sylvan Glades often contain rarer items.
