5.10. Programming & Gaming
Unlock lucrative careers and engaging hobbies with the Programming and Gaming skills in The Sims 4. These modern skills offer Sims opportunities to earn Simoleons, develop their intellect, and enjoy several digital pastimes.
The Programming skill is essential for Sims looking to excel in tech-related careers, such as the Tech Guru or Astronaut careers. To start, Sims need a computer. The better the computer, the faster they can learn and the more options they will unlock. Sims can level up their Programming skill by 'Programming,' 'Hacking,' 'Making Plugins,' 'Creating Mods,' 'Developing Apps,' and 'Developing Games' on the computer.
As Sims progress in the Programming skill, they unlock several interactions. At level 1, they can 'Chat on the Internet' and 'Browse Web.' At level 2, they can 'Email,' 'Program,' and 'Hack.' Higher levels unlock more advanced options like 'Make Plugin,' 'Create Mod,' 'Develop App,' and 'Develop Game.' Developing apps and games can be a significant source of income, especially at higher skill levels, and can even lead to fame if the creations are popular.
The 'Hacking' interactions are particularly useful for quick Simoleon boosts or for fulfilling certain career tasks. Sims can 'Hack for Small, Medium, or Large Amounts of Money,' or 'Hack into University Systems' (if you have the Discover University expansion). However, hacking carries a risk of failure, which can result in a negative moodlet or even a temporary ban from the internet.
The Gaming skill is closely related to Programming and is often pursued by Sims who enjoy a more recreational approach to technology. Sims can level up their Gaming skill by playing video games on computers, gaming consoles, or even arcade machines. Higher gaming skill leads to better performance in games, unlocking new game titles and increasing the chances of winning tournaments.
Sims with a high Gaming skill can also participate in 'Esports Competitions' if they have the 'Discover University' expansion. This provides a structured way to earn money and recognition through their gaming prowess. Furthermore, Sims can 'Stream Games' on their computer, which can lead to earning Simoleons and gaining followers, similar to the Streaming skill.
