7.14. Traveling Between Worlds
The Sims 4 features a diverse collection of worlds, each with its own unique atmosphere, community, and opportunities. Traveling between these worlds is a fundamental aspect of gameplay, allowing your Sims to explore new environments, meet new Sims, and pursue different career paths or hobbies. This section outlines how to navigate between worlds and what to expect during your Sims' journeys.
Traveling between worlds is initiated through the Sim's phone. Once your Sim is on their home lot, they can access their phone by clicking on the phone icon in the lower-left corner of the UI. From the phone menu, select the 'Travel' option. This will bring up a map of all the worlds available to your Sim.
You can then select the world you wish to visit. Some worlds are residential, meaning your Sim can move there permanently, while others are community lots, designed for short visits. When you choose a world, you'll see a list of available lots within that world. You can choose to travel to a specific lot (e.g., a park, a bar, a museum) or to the world's central hub, which often provides access to various community lots.
Important Considerations for Travel:
- Household Travel: When you travel, you can choose to bring along members of your household. If you travel alone, only the selected Sim will go. If you select multiple Sims, they will all travel together.
- Moving Worlds: If you wish for your Sim to permanently relocate to a new world, you'll need to select the option to 'Move Household' from the phone's travel menu. This allows you to sell your current home and purchase a new one in the destination world.
- World Unlocks: Some worlds or specific lots within worlds may require certain conditions to be met before they can be visited or moved into. For example, some worlds might be locked until you reach a certain level in a career or complete a specific aspiration.
- Travel Time: Traveling between worlds is generally instantaneous within the game's simulation. Your Sim will simply appear at their chosen destination.
Each world offers unique opportunities. For instance, visiting Granite Falls (Outdoor Retreat) allows Sims to camp and explore nature, while visiting Del Sol Valley (City Living) is ideal for aspiring celebrities. Forgotten Hollow (Vampires) is the perfect place to encounter vampires, and Strangerville (Strangerville) offers a unique mystery to unravel.
When traveling to community lots, your Sim will have a limited time there before they need to return home. This is a great opportunity to socialize, pursue skills, or complete career-related tasks. Remember to manage your Sim's needs while they are away from home, as they will continue to age and experience events.
