PvE Activities (General)

Welcome, Agent, to the heart of Washington D.C.'s struggle against chaos. While the Dark Zones offer high-risk, high-reward PvP encounters, the vast majority of your time in The Division 2 will be spent mastering the myriad PvE activities available. These activities are your primary source for gear, experience, and the crucial resources needed to strengthen your agent and reclaim the city. This section will detail the general PvE offerings, providing actionable steps and strategies to maximize your efficiency.

World Activities & Control Points

The open world of D.C. is teeming with dynamic PvE opportunities. These activities are essential for maintaining control of the city and acquiring valuable loot.

  • Control Points: These are strongholds held by enemy factions. Capturing them provides a fast travel point, access to a supply room with loot, and a continuous stream of resources.
    • Strategy: Approach from a flank to avoid direct confrontation with all enemies at once. Prioritize eliminating the named boss and any medics. Once the initial wave is clear, call for reinforcements. Defend against the counter-attack, focusing on high-threat targets like Heavies or Rushers.
    • Loot: Supply room caches often contain targeted loot for the current global event or specific gear types. Capturing a Control Point at Alert Level 3 or 4 significantly increases the quality and quantity of loot, including a chance for Exotic components or blueprints.
  • Public Executions: Rescue civilians from enemy factions. These are quick encounters that reward experience and a small amount of gear.
  • Propaganda Broadcasts: Destroy enemy loudspeakers. Similar to Public Executions, these are fast and offer minor rewards.
  • Territory Control: Clear out enemy presence in a specific area. Often involves multiple waves of enemies.
  • Convoys: Intercept enemy supply convoys. These can be challenging, especially if you engage multiple enemy groups simultaneously.
    • Strategy: Use environmental cover to your advantage. Focus fire on the lead vehicle's weak points (e.g., engine block) to disable it quickly. Be prepared for a sustained fight as enemies will disembark and engage.
    • Loot: Convoys drop various gear pieces and often a guaranteed weapon or armor piece upon completion.
  • Elite Resource Convoys: A more challenging version of regular convoys, featuring elite enemies and better rewards. Look for the red skull icon on the map.
  • Hostage Rescues: Free civilians held captive. These often involve a small group of enemies and a quick resolution.

Missions & Strongholds

The core narrative and endgame content of The Division 2 are delivered through main missions and Strongholds. These offer structured challenges and significant rewards.

  • Main Missions: Progress through the game's story. Each mission has a unique layout, enemy encounters, and often a boss fight.
    • Difficulty: Missions can be replayed on various difficulties (Normal, Hard, Challenging, Heroic, Legendary) to increase loot quality and quantity. Higher difficulties also introduce more aggressive enemy AI and additional mechanics.
    • Targeted Loot: Check your map for active targeted loot allocations. Running missions in areas with desired targeted loot is an efficient way to farm specific gear pieces, such as a "Coyote's Mask" or "Mantis" sniper rifle.
    • Strategy: For higher difficulties, a balanced team composition is crucial. Consider having a tank, a damage dealer, and a support/healer. Utilize cover, crowd control skills (e.g., Blinder Firefly, Shock Trap), and focus fire on key targets.
  • Strongholds: These are major enemy fortresses that act as the culmination of each act in the main story. Completing them is necessary to advance the World Tier system and unlock new content.
    • Examples: The Capitol Building, District Union Arena, Roosevelt Island.
    • Strategy: Strongholds are extended missions with multiple phases and often feature unique boss mechanics. Communication with your team is paramount. Be prepared for sustained engagements and utilize your ultimate skills strategically.
    • Rewards: Strongholds offer some of the best loot in the game, especially on higher difficulties, and are excellent for farming Exotic components and high-end gear.

Bounties

Bounties are timed challenges to hunt down and eliminate specific enemy targets. They are an excellent source of targeted loot and experience.

  • Acquisition: Bounties can be acquired from the Bounty Board in the Base of Operations, by completing Control Points, or as rewards from various activities.
  • Types:
    • Standard Bounties: Eliminate a named enemy and their entourage.
    • Priority Bounties: More challenging bounties, often with multiple stages and tougher enemies. These offer better rewards.
    • SHD Bounties: Acquired from the SHD Requisition Officer, these require SHD Tech to unlock and offer excellent rewards.
  • Strategy: Before engaging, scout the area to identify enemy positions and potential flanking routes. Many bounty targets have unique abilities or resistances, so adapt your build accordingly. For example, if the target is an "Outcast Heavy," consider using Incendiary Grenades or skills that apply burn.
  • Loot: Bounties are a reliable source of targeted loot, especially for specific brands or gear sets. Completing higher difficulty bounties increases the chance of obtaining high-roll items and Exotics.
