Hyenas Arena Joint Operation
Welcome, Aesperian! The Hyenas Arena Joint Operation is a challenging but rewarding cooperative instance that requires teamwork, strategic positioning, and understanding of enemy mechanics. This guide will walk you through each phase, offering actionable steps to ensure your team's success and maximize your rewards.
Overview and Preparation
Before diving into the Hyenas Arena, ensure your team is adequately prepared. This Joint Operation typically features enemies with specific elemental resistances and weaknesses, so a balanced team composition is crucial. Consider bringing at least one reliable healer (e.g., using a weapon like Nemesis' Venus or Coco Reitter's Absolute Zero), a strong DPS unit (e.g., King's Scythe of the Crow or Samir's Dual EM Stars), and a tank or utility player (e.g., Huma's Molten Shield V2 or Meryl's Rosy Edge).
- Recommended CS: Check the in-game recommended Combat Score (CS) for the specific difficulty you're attempting. Aim to be at or above this threshold.
- Elemental Loadout: Pay attention to the current elemental buffs/debuffs for the week, as these can significantly impact your damage output.
- Consumables: Stock up on healing items like Fried Rice or Fiddlehead Pie, and stat-boosting foods such as Snail Baked Rice for increased attack.
- Team Communication: use voice chat or quick pings for effective coordination, especially during boss encounters.
Phase 1: Arena Gauntlet
The initial phase of the Hyenas Arena involves clearing waves of standard Hyena grunts and elite units. This section is designed to test your team's ability to manage multiple targets and maintain crowd control.
- Initial Engagement: Upon entering, you'll face several waves of Hyena Grunts and Hyena Thugs. Focus on grouping them up using abilities like Huma's Sunder or Meryl's Whirlwind to maximize area-of-effect (AoE) damage.
- Elite Hyenas: After clearing a few waves, an Elite Hyena Enforcer will spawn. This enemy has a shield that needs to be broken quickly. Weapons with high Shatter values (e.g., King's Scythe of the Crow, Huma's Molten Shield V2) are highly effective here.
- Environmental Hazards: Be mindful of the scattered explosive barrels around the arena. While they can damage you, they can also be used strategically to deal significant AoE damage to clustered enemies. Lure enemies near them and detonate with a ranged attack.
- Healing and Sustain: Ensure your healer is actively managing team health, especially during the Elite Hyena encounters, as their attacks can be quite potent.
Phase 2: The Hyena Commander
Following the gauntlet, you'll face the first mini-boss: the Hyena Commander. This boss has a predictable attack pattern but can deal heavy damage if not dodged correctly.
- Positioning: The Hyena Commander often performs a charge attack. Designate a tank or a highly mobile DPS to kite the boss around the arena, drawing its attention away from squishier teammates.
- "Howling Fury" Ability: The Commander will periodically stop and unleash "Howling Fury," a wide AoE attack indicated by a red circle on the ground. Immediately dodge out of this area. Getting hit will apply a temporary debuff reducing your attack.
- Shield Break: Similar to the Elite Enforcer, the Hyena Commander will gain a shield at roughly 75% and 40% health. Prioritize breaking this shield using high Shatter weapons to create a window for burst damage.
- Adds Management: During the shield phases, the Commander will summon a few Hyena Scouts. These are low-health targets that can be quickly dispatched with AoE abilities, preventing them from overwhelming your team.
Phase 3: The Twin Sentinels
This phase introduces two distinct mini-bosses simultaneously: the Hyena Blaster and the Hyena Bruiser. This is where team coordination is paramount.
- Target Priority: It is generally recommended to focus fire on the Hyena Blaster first. The Blaster is a ranged unit that deals consistent, high damage and can be disruptive with its projectile attacks. The Bruiser, while dangerous up close, is easier to kite.
- Splitting Up (Optional but Recommended): If your team has strong individual players, consider having one or two players kite the Bruiser while the rest focus on the Blaster. This prevents the Bruiser from interrupting the Blaster's takedown.
- Hyena Blaster Mechanics:
- "Energy Orb": The Blaster will launch slow-moving energy orbs. These can be dodged or even destroyed with a few hits.
- "Laser Barrage": A channeled attack that fires multiple lasers in a cone. Move behind the Blaster or use a dodge invulnerability frame to avoid damage.
- Hyena Bruiser Mechanics:
- "Ground Slam": A powerful AoE attack indicated by a large red circle. Dodge out immediately.
- "Charge Attack": The Bruiser will periodically charge at a player. Use a well-timed dodge to avoid the impact and potentially trigger a Phantasia.
- Synchronized Shields: Both Sentinels will gain shields at similar health percentages. Try to break both shields around the same time to maximize your team's burst damage window. If one shield is broken significantly earlier, the other Sentinel might continue to pose a threat while your team's burst is on cooldown.
Phase 4: The Grand Finale - Alpha Hyena
The final encounter pits you against the formidable Alpha Hyena. This boss combines elements of previous encounters with unique, devastating abilities.
- Initial Engagement and Shield: The Alpha Hyena starts with a thick shield. Immediately focus all Shatter abilities to break it and apply initial damage.
- "Alpha Roar" (AoE Stun): The Alpha Hyena will periodically charge up "Alpha Roar," a massive AoE attack that stuns all players caught within its radius. This is indicated by a very large red circle covering most of the arena. Use a well-timed dodge right before the roar goes off to trigger Phantasia and avoid the stun. Alternatively, if you have a weapon with a shield (e.g., Huma's Molten Shield V2), you can block the stun.
- Summoned Minions: At roughly 70% and 35% health, the Alpha Hyena will summon waves of Hyena Berserkers. These are aggressive melee units that can quickly overwhelm your healer. Prioritize clearing them with AoE attacks before returning focus to the boss.
- "Pounce Attack": The Alpha Hyena will target a single player and perform a powerful pounce. This is indicated by a red target marker on the ground. The targeted player should dodge away just before impact.
- Enrage Timer: Be aware that the Alpha Hyena typically has an enrage timer. If the fight drags on too long, its damage output will significantly increase, making it harder to survive. Maintain consistent DPS throughout the encounter.
- Final Burst: Once the Alpha Hyena is below 20% health, unleash all your strongest burst abilities and weapon skills to finish it off quickly, minimizing the risk of a late-game wipe.
