Post-Game Challenges
Congratulations, General! You've liberated Fevrith and restored peace to the land. But the fight for true mastery is far from over. Unicorn Overlord offers a wealth of challenging content designed to test your tactical prowess, optimize your units, and uncover every last secret. This section will guide you through the most rewarding post-game endeavors, from formidable optional battles to the pursuit of ultimate gear.
The Gauntlet of the Fallen
Upon completing the main story, a new series of optional, high-difficulty battles will unlock across Fevrith. These encounters pit you against enhanced versions of previous bosses and unique enemy compositions, often with environmental hazards or specific unit restrictions. Successfully clearing these battles is crucial for acquiring the most powerful equipment and rare items.
Recommended Preparation:
- Unit Level: Aim for all primary units to be Level 40+. Consider using EXP books from the various towns or the Overworld Training Grounds to quickly level up any lagging characters.
- Gear Optimization: Ensure all frontline units (Infantry, unique classes like Alain) have the best available defensive gear, such as the Aegis Shield (found in a hidden chest in Cornia's Northern Watchtower after a specific side quest) and the Plate Armor of the Lion (purchasable in the endgame Black Market). Ranged units and Casters should prioritize offensive accessories like the Wizard's Orb (dropped by the optional boss in the Elheim Ruined City).
- Tactics Refinement: Review and adjust your unit tactics. Many post-game enemies have specific immunities or weaknesses that can be exploited with precise tactical settings. Don't be afraid to experiment!
Key Gauntlet Battles & Rewards:
- The Shadowed Citadel (Cornia):
- Location: Appears as a new battle marker north of Gran Corrine.
- Challenge: Features an empowered Galerius with new abilities and a retinue of elite Zenoiran Knights. Expect heavy physical damage and area-of-effect attacks.
- Strategy: A strong defensive unit with a dedicated healer (e.g., Cleric, Shaman) is essential for the main engagement. Consider a unit with multiple Ranged Classes or Casters to quickly thin out the supporting enemies before focusing on Galerius. Units with high initiative are key to disrupting his powerful opening moves.
- Reward: Crown of the Conqueror (Accessory, +5 All Stats, +1 PP) and a large sum of Gold.
- The Wyvern's Roost (Drakenhold):
- Location: A new battle icon near the Dragon's Den in the volcanic region.
- Challenge: A trio of ancient Wyverns, each with different elemental affinities and devastating breath attacks. Flying units are heavily favored here, but enemy archers are plentiful.
- Strategy: Bring units with strong anti-flying capabilities (e.g., Hunters, Arbalists). Consider equipping accessories that grant elemental resistance. A unit with a Gryphon Knight and a Featherbow can quickly dispatch one Wyvern, creating a numbers advantage. bring plenty of healing items for sustained engagements.
- Reward: Dragon's Eye Amulet (Accessory, Grants Fire/Ice/Lightning Resistance) and rare crafting materials for ultimate weapons.
- The Whispering Woods (Elheim):
- Location: A newly accessible path in the deepest part of the Elheim forest.
- Challenge: An ambush-heavy battle against a horde of Elven Shadow Archers and Warlocks, culminating in a powerful Dark Elf boss. Enemies here often apply debilitating status effects.
- Strategy: Units with high magic defense and resistance to status effects are paramount. Consider bringing a unit with a Shaman or Witch to cleanse debuffs or apply their own. Scouts with high evasion can draw fire, while Infantry units can absorb ranged attacks. The boss is vulnerable to radiant damage.
- Reward: Elven Spirit Bow (Bow, High Magic Attack, Chance to inflict Silence) and a significant amount of Renown.
The True Zenoiran Emperor
After conquering all of the Gauntlet of the Fallen battles, a final, ultimate challenge will present itself in the heart of Zenoiran territory. This battle is a true test of everything you've learned and built throughout your journey.
- Location: A new, imposing fortress icon will appear in the central Zenoiran plains.
- Challenge: This multi-phase battle features the true form of the Zenoiran Emperor, backed by an army of elite, unique units. Each phase introduces new mechanics and requires a different approach. Expect powerful unique skills, high stats, and intricate tactical setups from the enemy.
- Strategy: This battle demands your absolute best. You'll need multiple well-optimized units, each designed to counter specific threats. Consider creating specialized units for anti-armor, anti-flying, and anti-magic. Flexibility in your tactics is key, as the Emperor will adapt. Don't be afraid to use powerful items like Divine Blessings or Miracle Fruit to turn the tide. Focus fire on high-priority targets and manage your PP/AP carefully.
- Reward: The Unicorn Ring (True) (Accessory, Grants +10 All Stats, +2 PP, +2 AP, Unique Passive: "Unicorn's Resolve" - Revives unit once per battle with 50% HP) and the "Liberator of Fevrith" achievement.
Coliseum Master Rank
Once you've proven your might in the Gauntlet, the Coliseum in Gran Corrine will unlock its Master Rank. This is a series of increasingly difficult arena battles against unique, pre-set enemy units. Unlike the main game, you'll be restricted to a limited number of units and often face specific handicaps.
- Access: Speak to the Coliseum Master in Gran Corrine after completing the main story.
- Challenge: Master Rank battles feature enemy units with optimized gear, high levels, and often surprising tactical setups. Some rounds may limit your unit types or prohibit certain skills.
- Strategy:
- Analyze Opponents: Before each Master Rank battle, carefully review the enemy unit composition and their known tactics.
- Counter-Pick: Build units specifically designed to exploit the weaknesses of your opponents. For example, if facing a heavy cavalry unit, bring a strong Infantry unit with anti-cavalry skills.
- Resource Management: Unlike overworld battles, you cannot retreat or resupply mid-Master Rank run. Plan your PP and AP usage across multiple rounds.
- Experiment with Formations: Sometimes, simply changing the position of a character within a unit can drastically alter the outcome.
- Reward: Each Master Rank tier offers unique rewards, including powerful accessories like the Champion's Emblem (Accessory, +3 All Stats, +1 Initiative) and exclusive unit skins. Completing all Master Ranks unlocks the Legendary Gladiator's Blade (Sword, Highest Physical Attack, Grants "First Strike" passive).
Covenant of the Ring
Beyond the battles, the post-game also offers opportunities to deepen your bonds and unlock new story content. The "Covenant of the Ring" questline becomes available after completing the main story and achieving maximum rapport with certain key characters.
- Initiation: Max out rapport with a character (e.g., Scarlett, Josef, Chloe) and visit them in a liberated town. A special dialogue option will appear.
- Quest Steps: These quests often involve revisiting significant locations from their personal stories, engaging in unique dialogue, and sometimes participating in a special, character-focused battle.
- Rewards: Completing a character's Covenant of the Ring quest grants them a unique, powerful accessory (e.g., Scarlett's Holy Relic - Staff, greatly enhances healing abilities; Josef's Oath Shield - Shield, grants "Guardian's Aegis" passive, protecting adjacent allies) and a special scene that further develops their relationship with Alain.
