Game Progression Milestones

Vampire Survivors, at its core, is a game about relentless progression. Each run, whether successful or not, contributes to unlocking new characters, weapons, stages, and permanent power-ups. Understanding these progression milestones and how to efficiently achieve them is key to mastering the game and surviving the ever-increasing hordes.

Early Game: Establishing a Foothold (Minutes 0-15)

Your initial runs will focus on surviving long enough to unlock fundamental elements. Don't be discouraged by early deaths; every coin and every unlocked achievement counts.

  • Unlock New Characters:
    • Poe Ratcho: Survive 5 minutes with any character. Poe's starting weapon, the Garlic, is excellent for early crowd control and will significantly improve your survivability in the early stages.
    • Imelda Belpaese: Available from the start. Focus on leveling her Magic Wand to evolve it into Holy Wand.
    • Pasqualina Belpaese: Available from the start. Her Runetracer is a fantastic early-game weapon for piercing enemies.
  • Weapon Evolutions: Prioritize evolving your starting weapon.
    • Magic Wand + Empty Tome = Holy Wand: Imelda's primary evolution. The Holy Wand offers continuous, piercing projectiles.
    • Whip + Hollow Heart = Bloody Tear: Antonio's primary evolution. Bloody Tear gains lifesteal, crucial for sustained survival.
    • Axe + Candelabrador = Death Axe: Gennaro's primary evolution. Death Axe throws larger, more damaging axes.
  • Unlock Dairy Plant: Survive 15 minutes in the Mad Forest. This new stage introduces different enemy types and environmental hazards, offering more variety and new challenges.
  • Power-Up Purchases: Use collected gold to buy permanent power-ups from the main menu. Focus on:

    • Might: Increases weapon damage.
    • Armor: Reduces incoming damage.
    • Greed: Increases gold gained, accelerating future power-up purchases.
    • Growth: Increases experience gained, allowing faster leveling.

Mid Game: Expanding Your Arsenal & Roster (Minutes 15-30)

Once you're consistently surviving past 15 minutes, you'll start unlocking more complex mechanics and powerful characters.

  • Unlock Library: Survive 15 minutes in the Dairy Plant. The Library is a more open stage, often preferred for its easier enemy patterns and access to specific items.
  • Unlock New Characters:
    • Gennaro Belpaese: Available from the start. His Knife is a good single-target weapon that can be evolved into Thousand Edge.
    • Antonio Belpaese: Available from the start. His Whip is a strong area-of-effect weapon.
    • Porta Ladonna: Unlock by evolving the Lightning Ring into Thunder Loop. Porta's starting weapon, the Lightning Ring, is excellent for clearing large groups.
    • Arca Ladonna: Unlock by evolving the Fire Wand into Hellfire. Arca's starting weapon, the Fire Wand, is a powerful projectile weapon.
  • Weapon Evolutions (Advanced):
    • Knife + Bracer = Thousand Edge: Gennaro's evolution, firing a rapid stream of knives.
    • King Bible + Spellbinder = Unholy Vespers: A top-tier defensive and offensive weapon that orbits you continuously.
    • Santa Water + Attractorb = La Borra: Creates a powerful, persistent area of damage.
    • Lightning Ring + Duplicator = Thunder Loop: Porta's evolution, creating more frequent and powerful lightning strikes.
    • Fire Wand + Spinach = Hellfire: Arca's evolution, launching larger, more damaging fireballs.
  • Relic Hunting: Keep an eye out for special items that unlock new game mechanics.
    • Map: Found in the Dairy Plant, reveals the location of passive items and chests.
    • Empty Tome: Found in the Library, reduces weapon cooldown. Essential for many evolutions.
    • Grim Grimoire: Found in the Inlaid Library, allows you to see weapon evolutions in the pause menu.
  • Arcana Unlocks: Begin unlocking Arcana cards, which provide powerful run-specific buffs. The first Arcana, Sarbande of Healing, is unlocked by surviving 31 minutes with Poe Ratcho.

Late Game: Mastery & Endless Mode (Minutes 30+)

By this stage, you should be comfortably reaching 30 minutes in most stages. The focus shifts to unlocking hidden content, completing the main story, and pushing for high scores in Endless Mode.

  • Unlock Gallo Tower: Survive 15 minutes in the Library. This stage introduces verticality and unique enemy patterns.
  • Unlock Cappella Magna: Survive 15 minutes in Gallo Tower. This is often considered the "final" stage of the base game, featuring challenging bosses and powerful items.
  • Unlock Moongolow: Unlock by finding the Yellow Sign in Moongolow. This secret stage is crucial for unlocking many powerful passive items and characters.
  • Unlock New Characters (Advanced):
    • Pugnala Provola: Unlock by finding the hidden Coffin in Gallo Tower. Pugnala starts with the Phiera Der Tuphello and Eight The Sparrow, two powerful weapons.
    • Divano Thelma: Unlock by evolving the Laurel into Crimson Shroud. Divano's starting weapon, the Laurel, grants temporary invincibility.
    • Mortaccio: Unlock by defeating 3,000 skeletons. Mortaccio's starting weapon, the Bone, bounces off enemies and walls.
    • Krochi Freetto: Unlock by defeating 100,000 enemies. Krochi's starting weapon, the Cross, is a boomerang-like projectile.
  • The Yellow Sign: This crucial relic is found in Moongolow. Collecting it permanently unlocks the ability to see and collect all hidden stage items (like the Silver Ring and Gold Ring) in all stages, which are essential for evolving the Laurel and Metaglio Left/Right.
  • Endless Mode: Once you defeat the final boss in Cappella Magna and collect the Great Gospel, you unlock Endless Mode. This allows you to continue runs indefinitely, pushing your builds to their absolute limits and accumulating massive amounts of gold.
  • Hyper Mode: Unlock Hyper Mode for each stage by defeating the boss that appears at 25 minutes. Hyper Mode increases enemy density and gold gain, making runs more challenging but also more rewarding.
