Campaign Mission Specific Strategies
This section provides detailed, actionable strategies for navigating specific missions within both the Human and Orc campaigns. Remember that adaptability is key, but these guidelines will give you a strong foundation for success.
Human Campaign
Act I: The Shores of Lordaeron
I. The New Frontier
- Objective: Establish a base and destroy all Orc forces.
- Initial Steps:
- Immediately begin gathering Lumber with your starting Peasants. Send two to the nearest forest and one to construct a Farm.
- Train additional Peasants from your Town Hall as soon as resources allow. Prioritize building a Barracks, then a Lumber Mill to upgrade your woodcutters.
- Scout with your starting Footmen. You'll encounter a small Orc encampment to the north-east, typically consisting of a few Grunts and a Watch Tower.
- Early Defense:
- Expect early raids from Orc Grunts from the north. Position your Footmen strategically near your Town Hall or Barracks.
- Once you have enough Gold, upgrade your Footmen at the Barracks to gain improved armor.
- Offensive Push:
- Build at least 6-8 Footmen before attempting to push into the main Orc base.
- The primary Orc base is located directly north of your starting position, across a small river. It will include a Great Hall, Barracks, and several Watch Towers.
- Focus fire on the Watch Towers first to reduce incoming damage, then target the Barracks to stop unit production, and finally the Great Hall.
II. The Dead Mines
- Objective: Rescue the captured Peasants and destroy the Orc forces.
- Initial Steps:
- You start with a small force of Footmen. Immediately move them east to discover the entrance to the Dead Mines.
- Inside the mines, you'll encounter various Orc units, including Grunts and Axe Throwers. Use your Footmen's superior armor to your advantage.
- Rescuing Peasants:
- The captured Peasants are scattered throughout the mine shafts. They are typically guarded by 1-2 Orc units.
- Once rescued, Peasants will automatically follow your selected units. Guide them back to the mine entrance.
- There are several Gold Veins within the mines. Once you rescue a Peasant, send them to mine Gold. This is crucial for building a small base outside.
- Establishing a Foothold:
- After rescuing enough Peasants and gathering some Gold, build a Town Hall and Barracks near the mine entrance (outside).
- Train more Footmen and consider building a Scout Tower for early warning of Orc attacks.
- Final Assault:
- The main Orc base is located to the north-west of the mine entrance. It's a well-defended position.
- Build a force of at least 8-10 Footmen, supported by a few Archers if you have a Lumber Mill and Archery Range.
- Utilize the terrain to your advantage, drawing out smaller groups of Orcs before engaging their main defenses.
Orc Campaign
Act I: Seas of Blood
I. Zul'Dare
- Objective: Establish a base and destroy all Human forces.
- Initial Steps:
- Immediately assign your starting Peons to gather Lumber. Send two to the nearest forest and one to construct a Farm.
- Train additional Peons from your Great Hall as quickly as possible. Prioritize building a Barracks, then a Lumber Mill for woodcutting upgrades.
- Use your starting Grunts to scout the immediate area. You'll find a small Human outpost to the south-east.
- Early Defense:
- Expect early Human Footmen raids from the south. Position your Grunts defensively near your Great Hall or Barracks.
- Upgrade your Grunts at the Barracks for improved damage as soon as resources are available.
- Offensive Push:
- Accumulate a force of at least 6-8 Grunts before launching your assault on the main Human base.
- The primary Human base is located to the south of your starting position, across a small stretch of water. It will feature a Town Hall, Barracks, and multiple Guard Towers.
- Focus your attacks on the Guard Towers first to minimize ranged damage, then target the Barracks to halt unit production, and finally the Town Hall.
II. Raid at Hillsbrad
- Objective: Destroy the Human outpost at Hillsbrad.
- Initial Steps:
- You begin with a small raiding party of Grunts and Axe Throwers. Move them south-west along the coastline.
- You'll encounter scattered Human Footmen and Archers along the path. Use your Axe Throwers to soften up targets before your Grunts engage in melee.
- Navigating the Coast:
- The path to Hillsbrad is linear but features several choke points and small Human defensive positions.
- Keep your Axe Throwers behind your Grunts to maximize their ranged damage and protect them from direct engagement.
- Look for small pockets of Gold and Lumber along the way. While you can't build, these resources can be useful if you encounter a mission where you *can* build later.
- Assaulting Hillsbrad:
- The Hillsbrad outpost is a fortified position with several Guard Towers, Footmen, and Archers.
- Prioritize destroying the Guard Towers with your Axe Throwers.
- Once the towers are down, focus your Grunts on the Footmen while your Axe Throwers pick off the Archers.
- The mission concludes once all Human structures and units in the designated area are destroyed.
