Your Journey Begins: Exploration & Progression

Warframe is a vast universe, and your journey through it is one of constant exploration and progression. From the initial steps on Earth to the farthest reaches of the Origin System, every planet, every mission, and every completed quest contributes to your growth as a Tenno. This guide will illuminate the path of progression, detailing how to unlock new areas, acquire essential gear, and build a foundation for your future triumphs. Understanding the progression system is key to navigating Warframe efficiently and enjoying its expansive content.

The primary driver of progression in Warframe is the completion of the Star Chart. Each planet is a node on this chart, and to unlock subsequent planets, you must complete a series of missions on the preceding ones. These missions range from Mobile Defense and Exterminate to Survival and Capture, each offering a unique challenge and rewarding you with credits, resources, and experience. Completing all missions on a planet, including its Junction, will unlock the path to the next celestial body. Junctions are special nodes that often require specific achievements, such as mastering a certain Warframe ability, acquiring a specific weapon type, or completing a particular quest, before you can pass.

Unlocking the Star Chart:

  1. Earth to Venus: Your starting point. Complete missions and the Junction to Venus.
  2. Venus to Mercury: Continue completing missions and the Junction.
  3. Mercury to Mars: Progress through the chart, unlocking new challenges.
  4. Mars to Phobos: Each planet introduces new enemy types and mission variations.
  5. Phobos to Ceres: The Junctions often require more specific tasks as you advance.
  6. Ceres to Jupiter: This is where you'll start encountering more challenging Grineer units.
  7. Jupiter to Sedna: Sedna is a sificant milestone, often requiring specific mission types and mastery.
  8. Sedna to Pluto: Pluto is a key planet for accessing high-level content and resources.
  9. Pluto to Neptune: Continue your journey, unlocking further planets.
  10. Neptune to Uranus: Uranus introduces Archwing missions.
  11. Uranus to Eris: Eris is a Infested-heavy planet.
  12. Eris to Pluto (via Void Fissures): Accessing Void Fissures is crucial for end-game progression.
  13. The Void: Completing Void Fissures on various planets is necessary to unlock the final planets and the Orokin Derelict.
  14. Ceres to Lua: Lua is unlocked after completing 'The Second Dream' quest.
  15. Lua to Kuva Fortress: The Kuva Fortress is a late-game area.

Acquiring New Warframes and Weapons:

Progression isn't just about unlocking planets; it's about expanding your arsenal and capabilities. New Warframes can be acquired through several means: completing main quests, farming boss drops on specific planets (e.g., Rhino from Jackal on Venus), crafting from blueprints purchased from the Market or earned through quests, and trading with other players. Similarly, new weapons are unlocked through blueprints found in the Market, dropped by enemies, or earned as quest rewards. Mastering your current gear and understanding modding is essential before rushing to acquire everything.

The Role of Quests:

Quests are not merely story elements; they are critical progression gates. 'Vor's Prize' introduces you to the game, while 'The Second Dream' and 'The War Within' fundamentally change your understanding of your character and unlock powerful new abilities. Completing the main questline is crucial for accessing later planets, game modes, and understanding the overarching narrative. Side quests often reward specific Warframes or unique items, further aiding your progression.

Mastery Rank:

Mastery Rank (MR) is a measure of your overall experience with different Warframes, weapons, companions, and other gear. Each item you level up to Rank 30 grants Mastery XP. Reaching higher Mastery Ranks unlocks daily trading limits, weapon and Warframe slots, and access to certain powerful mods and items. Prioritizing leveling several gear is essential for long-term progression and unlocking the full potential of the game.
