Endo and Mod Upgrading
Endo is the lifeblood of your Warframe progression. It's the primary resource used to upgrade your Mods, making your Warframes, weapons, and companions significantly more powerful. Understanding how to acquire and efficiently spend Endo is crucial for tackling higher-level content and optimizing your builds.
What is Endo?
Endo is a universal resource represented by a crystalline icon. Every Mod in Warframe has ranks, and increasing these ranks requires a certain amount of Endo and Credits. The higher the rank, the more potent the Mod's effect, but also the more expensive the upgrade in both Endo and Credits.
Where to Find Endo
Acquiring sufficient Endo is an ongoing process throughout your Warframe journey. Here are the most reliable and efficient methods:
-
Mission Rewards: Many missions, particularly those on the Star Chart, offer Endo as a potential reward. Look for missions with the Endo icon displayed on the mission selection screen.
- Specific Mission Types:
- Arena Missions (Sedna): These missions, such as Vodyanoi on Sedna, are highly regarded for their consistent and significant Endo drops, especially when run with a dedicated squad. Expect to face challenging enemies, but the rewards are well worth it.
- Arbitrations: Once you've completed the entire Star Chart, Arbitrations become available. These endless missions offer substantial Endo rewards, along with other valuable resources like Vitus Essence.
- Void Fissures: While not a primary source, cracking Void Relics in Fissure missions can sometimes yield Endo as a reward, particularly from common and uncommon tiers.
- Specific Mission Types:
-
Mod Conversion: This is a fundamental way to convert unwanted or duplicate Mods into Endo.
- Steps for Mod Conversion:
- Navigate to your Orbiter's Mod Station (located near the Arsenal).
- Select the "Mods" tab.
- Click on the "Endo" button at the bottom of the screen.
- You will now see a list of all your Mods. Select the Mods you wish to convert. Common Mods yield less Endo than rare or legendary Mods.
- Confirm your selection to convert them into Endo.
- Steps for Mod Conversion:
- Sorties: Daily Sortie missions, unlocked after completing The War Within quest, offer a chance at significant Endo bundles (e.g., 4000 Endo) as an end-of-mission reward. These are challenging but highly rewarding.
-
Ayatan Treasures: These unique sculptures and stars are a fantastic source of Endo.
- Ayatan Sculptures: Found randomly in missions, or guaranteed from Maroo's Weekly Ayatan Treasure Hunt (accessible from Maroo's Bazaar on Mars). Each sculpture has sockets for Ayatan Stars.
- Ayatan Stars: These come in two types: Ayatan Amber Stars and Ayatan Cyan Stars. They are found randomly in lockers, containers, and as mission rewards.
- Converting Ayatan Treasures:
- Once you have an Ayatan Sculpture, go to your Orbiter's Mod Station.
- Select the "Ayatan Treasures" tab.
- Socket any Ayatan Stars you have into your sculptures. Fully socketed sculptures yield significantly more Endo.
- Select the filled sculpture and choose to convert it to Endo.
- Syndicate Offerings: Certain Syndicates offer Endo bundles as part of their daily offerings once you reach higher standing ranks. Check the Syndicate Consoles in your Orbiter.
Mod Upgrading Strategies
Upgrading Mods is an investment, both in Endo and Credits. Prioritize wisely to maximize your power gains.
-
Accessing the Mod Upgrade Screen:
- Go to your Orbiter's Mod Station.
- Select the "Mods" tab.
- Choose the Mod you wish to upgrade from your inventory.
- Click the "Upgrade" button at the bottom of the Mod's detail panel.
-
Prioritize Core Mods: Focus on upgrading essential Mods that provide significant power boosts across many builds.
- Warframe Mods:
- Vitality / Redirection / Steel Fiber: Essential for survivability.
- Streamline / Flow / Continuity / Stretch: Core for ability efficiency, energy, duration, and range.
- Intensify / Blind Rage: For ability strength.
- Weapon Mods:
- Serration / Hornet Strike / Pressure Point: Base damage mods are paramount.
- Point Blank / Split Chamber / Hell's Chamber: Multishot mods are incredibly powerful.
- Elemental Mods (e.g., Cryo Rounds, Infected Clip): Combine these for powerful elemental damage types.
- Warframe Mods:
- Incremental Upgrades: You don't need to max out every Mod immediately. Often, upgrading a Mod to rank 5 or 8 provides a substantial boost for a reasonable Endo cost, allowing you to spread your resources across more Mods. Maxing out a Mod often has a disproportionately high Endo cost for the final few ranks.
- Consider Mod Polarity: When upgrading, remember that matching a Mod's polarity to a slot on your Warframe or weapon halves its drain. This allows you to fit more powerful, higher-rank Mods. If a Mod doesn't match, consider using an Orokin Reactor (for Warframes/Companions) or Orokin Catalyst (for Weapons) to double capacity, or a Forma to change a slot's polarity.
- Duplicate Mods: Keep at least one unranked copy of common utility Mods (like basic elemental mods) for specific builds or for new weapons/Warframes that might not have enough capacity for a maxed-out version. Convert excess duplicates into Endo.
By consistently farming Endo through the methods above and strategically upgrading your core Mods, you'll see a dramatic increase in your effectiveness across the entire Star Chart and beyond. Happy hunting, Tenno!
