Elite/Specialist Hunter Builds

Build Veterans and Psykers in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide to eliminate Elites and Specialists with high-damage weapons like the Recon Lasgun.

Elite/Specialist Hunter Builds

In the relentless war against the forces of Chaos, specialized enemy units known as Elites and Specialists pose the greatest threat to your squad. Building characters specifically to hunt and eliminate these high-priority targets is a crucial strategy for survival and mission success. These builds focus on maximizing single-target damage, accuracy, and the ability to quickly neutralize dangerous foes.

While clearing hordes is important, a single well-placed shot from a Sniper or a swift pounce from a Trapper can spell doom for your team. Elite/Specialist Hunter builds are desed to counter these specific threats with ruthless efficiency. They prioritize precision, burst damage, and the tools necessary to identify and eliminate these dangerous individuals before they can inflict critical damage or incapacitate your squad. These builds are often favored by Veterans and Psykers, but other classes can adapt to fulfill this role.

Key Attributes for Hunter Builds:

  • High Single-Target Damage: The ability to deal massive damage to a single enemy quickly is paramount.
  • Accuracy and Precision: Hitting weak spots or critical areas on Elites and Specialists is essential for maximizing damage.
  • Mobility and Positioning: Being able to reposition quickly to get clear shots or avoid enemy attacks is vital.
  • Utility and Debuffs: Abilities or gear that can slow, stun, or highlight targets can greatly assist in their elimination.

Veteran Hunter Build:

The Veteran is arguably the premier choice for a dedicated Hunter build due to their innate bonuses to ranged combat and their powerful Combat Stim ability.

  • Weapons: High-precision, high-damage ranged weapons are key. Consider the Agripinaa Mk.I 'Recon' Lasgun for its accuracy and fire rate, or the Vraks Mk. VII 'Heavy' Lasgun for raw stopping power. The Mk. IX 'Heavy Bolter' can also be devastating against Elites if managed correctly.
  • Feats: Focus on feats that increase critical hit chance, critical hit damage, accuracy, and the duration or effectiveness of Combat Stim. Feats that grant bonus damage after a kill or when hitting weak spots are also excellent.
  • Perks: Prioritize perks that increase critical hit chance, weak spot damage, or provide bonus damage against Elites/Specialists.
  • Blessings: Look for blessings like 'Dumdum' (increased damage on unarmored targets, good for many Specialists), 'Deadshot' (increased critical hit chance after a kill), or 'Shattering Impact' (deals bonus damage to armor).
  • Combat Stim: Use Combat Stim strategically to boost your accuracy and damage when engaging a high-priority target.

Psyker Hunter Build:

While often associated with AoE, a Psyker can also be an effective Specialist Hunter, particularly with specific psychic powers and weapons.

  • Weapons: A reliable sidearm like the Mk. IV 'Revolver' or a precise laspistol can be useful for finishing off targets. Some builds might even incorporate a force sword for close-quarters defense.
  • Psychic Powers: Powers like 'Smite' (focused beam of energy) or 'Neuroglaive' (damage over time and debuff) can be effective. The 'Brain Blitz' power, when fully charged, can deal sificant damage to a single target.
  • Feats: Focus on feats that increase psychic damage, reduce Perils of the Warp, or grant bonuses when using specific powers.
  • Perks: Perks that increase weak spot damage or provide bonuses against Elites are beneficial.
  • Blessings: Blessings that enhance weapon damage or provide utility are good choices.

General Hunter Strategies:

  1. Prioritize Targets: Always identify and call out Elites and Specialists. Communicate with your team to focus fire.
  2. Utilize Weak Spots: Aim for the heads of most enemies, but learn the specific weak points of Elites and Specialists for maximum damage.
  3. Manage Ammo: Don't waste ammo on fodder enemies if you're saving for a high-priority target.
  4. Positioning: Find advantageous positions with clear lines of sight to engage targets safely.
