Enemy Types
The hordes of Nurgle are relentless, and understanding the diverse threats you'll face on Tertium is paramount to your survival. Each enemy type presents unique challenges, requiring different tactics and loadouts to overcome. From the swarming masses of Dregs to the hulking monstrosities of the Chaos forces, knowledge is your greatest weapon.
The primary antagonists you'll encounter are the forces of the Chaos God Nurgle, manifesting as corrupted humans known as Heretics. These are further divided into several distinct factions, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Mastering the identification and counter-play for each is essential for any successful mission.
Here's a breakdown of the common enemy types:
- Dregs: These are the lowest-tier cultists, often armed with crude melee weapons or basic firearms. They attack in large numbers and are relatively weak individually, but their sheer volume can overwhelm unprepared squads. Focus on crowd control and efficient target elimination.
- Scabs: A more organized and better-equipped faction of heretics. Scabs often wield more potent firearms and can include specialized units like Scab Shooters and Scab Bruisers. They are tougher than Dregs and require more focused fire.
- Poxwalkers: These are the shambling, infected masses of Nurgle. They are slow but incredibly resilient and can overwhelm players through sheer numbers and their ability to spread contagion. Their attacks can inflict a debuff that drains health over time. Prioritize clearing them before they close the distance.
- Specialists: These are elite units that pose sificant threats and require specific strategies. They include:
- Plague Ogryns: Hulking brutes that deal massive melee damage and can charge through squads. Their weak points are often their heads or glowing pustules.
- Mutants: Fast-moving, agile enemies that can leap across distances and grab players. They are dangerous in close combat and can quickly isolate and down an individual.
- Reapers: Heavily armored enemies armed with powerful ranged weapons, capable of shredding through armor and health from a distance. Prioritize taking them down quickly to reduce incoming fire.
- Hounds: Fast, dog-like creatures that can flank and attack from unexpected angles. They are agile and can be difficult to track.
- Bombers: These enemies throw explosive vials, creating hazardous areas and dealing sificant splash damage. Keep an eye on their trajectory and move out of the blast radius.
- Trappers: These enemies use a net to incapacitate players, leaving them vulnerable to other attackers. Prioritize eliminating Trappers before they can deploy their nets.
- Elites: These are tougher versions of standard enemies, often with more health and damage. They can appear as Elites within Dreg or Scab groups.
- Bosses: The most dangerous individual enemies, often encountered at the end of missions or during specific events. These require coordinated team effort and exploitation of their unique mechanics to defeat. Examples include the Beast of Nurgle and the Chaos Lord.
Understanding the visual cues and audio indicators associated with each enemy type is crucial. A distinct roar might sal an approaching Plague Ogryn, while the clatter of gunfire could indicate a wave of Scab Shooters. Learning to prioritize targets based on the immediate threat is a key skill for any successful Inquisitorial agent.
