Item Rarity and Tiers
In Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, the effectiveness of your gear is largely determined by its rarity and tier. These attributes dictate a weapon or curio's base stats, the number and quality of perks it can possess, and its overall potential for improvement through crafting.
Items in Darktide are categorized by rarity, indicated by a color-coded system. The common rarities, from lowest to highest, are typically: Grey (Common), Green (Uncommon), Blue (Rare), and Orange (Very Rare). Each subsequent rarity level offers a higher base stat value and a greater chance for more powerful perks and blessings. For example, a Blue rarity weapon will generally have better base damage and more impactful perks than a Grey or Green equivalent.
Beyond rarity, items also have a 'tier' or 'quality' rating, often represented by a numerical value or a specific desation within the rarity. This tier dictates the potential range of stats and the strength of the perks and blessings that can roll on the item. A higher-tier item within the same rarity will be superior to a lower-tier item. For instance, a 'Tier 4' Power Sword will be sificantly better than a 'Tier 1' Power Sword of the same rarity.
When acquiring new gear, always pay attention to both the rarity and the tier. A Grey item with a high tier might still be more desirable than a Blue item with a very low tier, especially early in the game or if it possesses a particularly useful perk or blessing. The goal is to find items with the highest possible combination of rarity and tier, as these will offer the greatest statistical advantages and the most potent modifiers.
The crafting system in Darktide allows players to influence and improve item rarity and tier. At the Armoury, you can use resources like Plasteel and Diamantine to upgrade weapons. Upgrading a weapon can increase its base stats and potentially unlock higher-tier perks or blessings. Furthermore, the 'Refine' option allows you to reroll existing perks and blessings, giving you a chance to acquire more powerful or synergistic modifiers. This means that even a lower-rarity item with a good base tier can be made exceptionally powerful through dedicated crafting.
Understanding item rarity and tiers is crucial for optimizing your loadout. It guides your decisions when choosing which weapons to keep, which to upgrade, and which to use as fodder for crafting. By prioritizing high-rarity, high-tier items and utilizing the crafting system effectively, you can ensure your strike team is equipped with the best possible gear to face the myriad horrors of Tertium.
