SPARK Unit Builds & Strategies
The SPARK unit, introduced in the Alien Hunters DLC, is a powerful robotic combat platform that offers a unique playstyle. SPARKs are heavily armored, possess high health, and excel at dealing consistent damage. However, they lack the tactical flexibility of organic soldiers and have a distinct set of abilities.
Core SPARK Abilities
SPARKs come equipped with a heavy cannon that deals significant damage and has a chance to stagger enemies. Their primary defensive ability is "Automated Defense," which grants them a bonus to defense when not moving. They also have "Repair" to regain health and "Overload" to boost their cannon's damage for a turn. Their ultimate ability is "Assault Protocol," which allows them to fire their cannon at any enemy within range, even if it's not their turn, provided they have actions remaining.
Build Archetypes
The Tank/Damage Dealer: Focus on maximizing the SPARK's survivability and damage output. Equip it with the best available armor and weapon mods. Prioritize abilities that enhance its offensive capabilities, such as "Heavy Weapons Protocol" for increased cannon damage and "Kinetic Pulse" for an area-of-effect attack. This build turns the SPARK into a mobile turret that can absorb a lot of punishment while dishing out consistent damage.
The Objective Specialist: While SPARKs are combat powerhouses, they can also be effective at securing objectives. Their high health and armor make them ideal for holding positions or advancing under fire. Consider equipping them with utility items that can aid in objective completion, such as a "Scanner" to reveal hidden enemies or a "Grenade Launcher" for clearing paths. Abilities like "Assault Protocol" can be used to quickly eliminate threats near an objective.
Strategic Deployment
SPARKs are best deployed on missions where sustained firepower and durability are paramount. They excel in missions with large numbers of enemies or where ADVENT forces are heavily armored. Due to their inability to use cover effectively, position them carefully. They are less suited for stealth missions or those requiring intricate flanking maneuvers. Always ensure they have line of sight to key targets and are not overly exposed to concentrated enemy fire. Their "Automated Defense" ability is most effective when they are stationary, so plan their movement accordingly.
When upgrading your SPARK, consider the "Rocket Pods" ability, which grants them a powerful area-of-effect attack, or "Target Rich Environment," which increases their accuracy against multiple enemies. The SPARK unit is a valuable asset that, when properly built and deployed, can significantly bolster your XCOM forces.
